A nostalgic read. I was worried that some of these stories have become too young for me, but it turns out you never quite grow out of Gaiman. Especially the story about a troll—that one still hits hard.

Or even harder, years later.

Some ups and down, but enjoyable overall.

Autumn just seems like a magical time to me. The days are getting shorter, the nights longer. And it just feels like the witching season. And so when my thoughts turn to magic, I turn to M is for Magic, which includes the story “The Witch's Headstone.”

This dude could read a geology textbook or a book about baseball or something equally boring and I would still be interested. There's something about his voice. He's a wonderful storyteller on top of being an excellent performer. Definitely listen to the #audiobook if you decide to read this.

Short stories just aren't my jam, so none of the usual NG raves from me on this one. I had read some of the stories in other collections. Bonus: going to sleep to Neil Gaiman's voice is always good. [I went back to where I left off so I didn't miss anything.]

This was pleasant. Second audiobook I've listened in awhile. The stories were full of fantasy and were great to listen to when having a busy week. 😊

Loved this collection of stories by Gaiman💚 It was even more enjoyable because I listened to the audiobook narrated by him. 😁

Great mixture of fantasy and fairy-tale fun.

This would have been a better listen in October before Halloween than at Christmas, however Neil Gaiman has a great voice any time of year. I‘m not a huge fan of short stories, but most of these were good. I especially liked “The Case of Four and Twenty Blackbirds” and “Sunbird.”

Some of these stories I‘ve read elsewhere— a few are also in Fragile Things (which I read a few years ago). My favorite, which is in both collections, is “How to Talk to Girls at Parties “. What a mind trip that one is!

I realized that I could use my Bookbeat license to clean up my book shelfs. These are the ones I found from Bookbeat in audio form. I plan to listen to them and then decide whether I'd like to keep them or give them away. 😊

I love everything Neil, but his short stories are one of the things he does best, in my opinion. My particular favorites were The Price and October in the Chair. While I had heard some of the stories before, and not ALL of them were fully my cup of tea, it was still wonderful to have Neil Gaiman tell me stories while I did chores. He‘s as wonderful a narrator as he is writer.

Ugh! Why the cliffhanger? Pure torture Mr. Gaiman.

As usual my mind is blown away by Gaiman‘s ability to craft short stories. This collection is considered a children‘s book, but I could just as easily have seen it aimed at adults and no one being any the wiser. If you already love Gaiman‘s work this is a solid collection that will remind you why. However, if you have never been exposed to it then let this be your gateway in. Either way you will not be disappointed.

I needed a break from wildwood, it was really starting to annoy me... short stories by Neil Gaiman are just what the doctor ordered.

Somewhere between pick and so-so depending on the story. "October in a Chair" was beautiful.

I'm surprised these are considered children's stories. I would probably recommend them for young adults, at youngest.

What audiobook to read next?

I think going forward I will only listen to the audiobook of Neil Gaiman's stories. His narration is THAT GOOD. Some authors are such wonderful storytellers that their voices enrich the words on the page. E.B. White is another such storyteller.

I'm also intrigued to read Ray Bradbury's books "R Is For Rocket" and "S Is For Space" from which Gaiman borrowed this title.

I chose this book for my #2017readingchallenge as a book with a cat on the cover. It's intended for younger audiences but Neil Gaiman has a way of creeping out adults just as easily! I am loving it so far. I've always enjoyed Neil's books and he's proving to me that there's nothing he can't do. #2017popsugarreadingchallenge

I love when my favorite authors include introductions, sometimes they're my favorite parts of the book!

I just got this kids short story collection from the library. Narrated by Gaiman himself. My son loved him narrating fortunately the milk and Coraline, so I think this will be another hit 📚😻
