Wild Country
Wild Country | Anne Bishop
In this powerful and exciting fantasy set in the world of the New York Times bestselling Others series, humans and the shape-shifting Others will see whether they can live side by side...without destroying one another. There are ghost towns in the world--places where the humans were annihilated in retaliation for the slaughter of the shape-shifting Others. One of those places is Bennett, a town at the northern end of the Elder Hills--a town surrounded by the wild country. Now efforts are being made to resettle Bennett as a community where humans and Others live and work together. A young female police officer has been hired as the deputy to a Wolfgard sheriff. A deadly type of Other wants to run a human-style saloon. And a couple with four foster children--one of whom is a blood prophet--hope to find acceptance. But as they reopen the stores and the professional offices and start to make lives for themselves, the town of Bennett attracts the attention of other humans looking for profit. And the arrival of the outlaw Blackstone Clan will either unite Others and humans...or bury them all.

It‘s not possible for me to explain just how much I love this book series and it‘s rich and vivid universe. It doesn‘t matter that I‘ve read this book well over 10 times. It remains an emotional lesson in found family, acceptance and growth. With a little growling and snarling to add character.

Finally a quieter evening to finish this book. I really love this world! And I also completed my Goodreads reading challenge! 🥳

wanderinglynn Congrats! 🎉👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 3y
Deifio @wanderinglynn thanks! Wasn't sure how much I'd read this year because of covid stress 3y
wanderinglynn I hear you. Most of my reads this year have been romance. I need some happily ever after to combat the stress. 3y
Deifio @wanderinglynn I read light stuff too. Romance and Urban Fantasy, some were re-reads, as comfort reads 3y

Another solid installment of The Others, with a storyline parallel to Etched in Bone. Not a stand-alone.
Bennett is almost a ghost town, but it‘s being reborn as a mixed community. How to control its growth and manage its people is a challenge. Throw in some old-style outlaws intent on harm that would have lasting consequences, and there you have it. I hope there‘s more to this story.
More in line with first books than Lake Silence was.

Currently reading the tagged book. The Others series totally has me hooked. While I miss Meg and the gang from the Courtyard, Lake Silence and Wild Country are equally riveting.

Anne Bishop is my favourite. I love this series and this book did not let me down. I was sad when the book ended as I want to know more about the characters and what is happening. If you like urban fantasy I highly recommend this series.

A little formulaic, but still full of characters I enjoy. It is Necessary to read the previous books- even in the first series, to fully understand sections of this book.

I was not disappointed. There were some expected things (hoped for things, really…) and some twists I didn‘t see coming. And I will say the ending absolutely wrecked me! I mean… all the feels here people! I don‘t know how to say anything without giving away absolutely everything, so all I can say is, if you are a fan of Anne Bishop and her Others series you definitely need to read this.

I'm having a #MigraineDay. Fortunately, it hit over night, so I'm past the point where I can't focus my eyes on anything. Unfortunately, my plans to get some things done today have been put on hold because I slept through the point of my migraine where I can successfully prevent all of the pain. It was divine timing though because I got this beauty from the library yesterday, and I now have very valid reasons to just read all day.

Chrissyreadit @tracey38 it‘s a spin off, and takes place after the last Others book. It is definitely going to make more sense if that first series is finished. 6y

Occurring parallel to Etched in Bone. Governed by terra indigene, well located with a train station and the promise of jobs and homes, Bennett is a magnet for those looking to start fresh - and for those with more unsavory intentions. When the cassandra sanguine send warnings of blood and black stones, the town must prepare itself for whatever is coming, and hope that they‘re still standing when it does.

This book was fantastic!! I was nervous going in because I didn‘t like the first spinoff, Lake Silence, but this story just did it for me. If you‘re looking for an interesting take on shifters and vampires that doesn‘t involve a ton of sexytimes, I highly recommend Anne Bishop‘s Others. So good. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

So, her first “World of the Others” book, Lake Silence was no bueno for me (I don‘t like cozy mysteries). But I have much higher hopes for this one. Now the question is, do I dive right in or do I reread the original series for the eleventieth time?

@Chrissyreadit it‘s here!!

This book is so good, but also very very sad. I didn‘t like that the book was parallel to the events on etched in bone but not lake silence, but I am hopeful that there will be more books in this area. The aspects of western fiction are interesting but not my favorite. 4/5 stars. It‘s a good read and I will read it again, but not as often as the other books in this series.

iread2much Thank you @CoffeeNBooks for the lovely letter! I am so excited to get my very first #litsylove mail, and it makes me so happy! 6y

I love, love, love this series and this world especially. This book definitely won't disappoint fans. We've got a whole new town and new set of humans and terra indigene to meet as they try and live with one another. That's what I love most about this series it's the interactions so much more any plot cause the villains just weren't that scary this time but I certainly hope there are more books to come.

What I love about this book is the relationships between characters! They are slow building, filled with push-pull trust issues but so satisfying. I loved the interactions between Sheriff Virgil & his new deputy, their work relationship was tense but over time it became something endearing & encouraging. I also liked that the town of Bennett had an old time feel to it. Full review with INTERVIEW https://wp.me/p8a3nz-44F #TheGenreMinxBookReviews
