Kate Forsyth is a wonderful writer and very prolific. Bitter Greens is a take on the Rapunzel story. This book is riveting, dark, quite brutal and I can‘t put it down.

I ordered this from a secondhand seller in the UK because I wanted this specific cover. In August. It just arrived! Trying to return the refund now. How beautiful is this?? And is a great book too (I've read it; this is a gift.)

Another fairy tale retelling I chose was this historical version of Rapunzel. I absolutely loved this book and really want to read more from this author. I really got a Kate Morton vibe from this tale with interweaving storylines and beautiful writing.

My first audio of 2020 was Bitter Greens by Kate Forsyth. It was a #Bookopoly pick. I have been meaning to read Kate Forsyth for so long and I love fairy tale retellings. This was a win for me. It took me a while to get in the groove with this story, but once I did, I was so invested in the characters. This more a character driven book than anything. I cannot wait to read more Kate Forsyth. I am so glad I read this! Audio was well done, too!

Part historical fiction and part fairy tale, Kate Forsyth weaves together the story of Charlotte-Rose de la Force‘s banishment from the court of the Sun King with the story of Rapunzel. Kate Reading does an excellent job as narrator-two thumbs up!

A retelling of Rapunzel combined with the story of real-life French novelist Charlotte-Rose de la Force. Sexier than I expected, and also includes a rape scene that could be very triggering.

Ok, Kate Forsyth is officially one of my favourite authors of all time. She is an amazingly talented writer, who can just tell a bloody good story. I'm on a fairytale kick, and what better way than to read a Kate Forsyth novel? I'm almost 200 pages in and I'm loving this adaptation of Rapunzel!

Kate Forsyth is one of my favourites authors for fairytale retellings. It was my first but think Bitter Greens is still my favourite ! I do still need to read Beauty in Thorns

Shades of gold...

The Alice Network did not capture me so I put it down for now. I so loved this author's retelling of Beauty & the Beast in Nazi Germany (partly why I'm not connecting to Alice) so I decided to read her first book. This retelling of Rapunzel is set during the Sun King's reign about the woman who first wrote it, and the fairy tale is already coming alive to me. I picked up this book because a book blogger had gushed so much about it. It was more adult than I was expecting but it was also one of the best retellings I've read, mixed in richly with history and painted so vividly I could not get enough of the different cultures in the book. If your looking for a retelling that will leave you scratching your head wondering if Rapunzel was a true a story this is the tale for you.

This is a book I have had digitally from NetGalley for a long time (we're talking years), and when I found a beautiful paperback copy I decided to finally give it a read. I love historical fiction, so I found this enchanting. Interweaving the story of a seventeenth century nun banished from the French King's court and the original fairytale of Rapunzel, this novel blends stunning historical details with beautiful storytelling.

I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy this book, but ultimately, it won me over. It's part #historicalfiction, and part #fairytaleretelling. The lives of three women of Italy in the 1600s intertwine through trials of desire, loss, witchcraft, and redemption.

Has anyone read this? I was all excited about a retelling of Rapunzel, but the first fifty or so pages are a retelling of Charlotte-Rose de La Force's life at three different stages and I kinda don't care for her character. I hope it improves. #fairytaleretelling

I really enjoyed this book. It's kind of historical fiction crossed with fairytale retelling. But it doesn't read like a fairytale. #historicalfiction #fairytaleretellings

Book challenge day 12 "Hufflepuff Colors" (Black and yellow)

Number one I think we need to note that Tonks was a Hufflepuff.

Number two we need to note that the honey badger is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records has the worlds most fearless creature.

#readJanuary day 3. My #bookface is the beautiful book Bitter Greens by Kate Forsyth. A Rapunzel retelling like no other, and one of my favourite books.

I'm not much for fairy tales, but this retelling of Rapunzel (set in a murderous Venice) was rather compelling.

The weather in Boston is turning quite chilly but the leaves are still amazingly colorful. I was in awe at the vibrant yellow of these guys and the color matched perfectly with "Bitter Greens" by Kate Forsyth.

Bitter Greens is a New Adult retelling of the fairytale Rapunzel, with some amazing historical fiction woven in with it, and it's awesome.
