Confession
Confession | John Grisham
An innocent man is about to be executed. Only a guilty man can save him. For every innocent man sent to prison, there is a guilty one left on the outside. He doesn t understand how the police and prosecutors got the wrong man, and he certainly doesn t care. He just can t believe his good luck. Time passes and he realizes that the mistake will not be corrected: the authorities believe in their case and are determined to get a conviction. He may even watch the trial of the person wrongly accused of his crime. He is relieved when the verdict is guilty. He laughs when the police and prosecutors congratulate themselves. He is content to allow an innocent person to go to prison, to serve hard time, even to be executed. Travis Boyette is such a man. In 1998, in the small East Texas city of Sloan, he abducted, raped, and strangled a popular high school cheerleader. He buried her body so that it would never be found, then watched in amazement as police and prosecutors arrested and convicted Donte Drumm, a local football star, and marched him off to death row. Now nine years have passed. Travis has just been paroled in Kansas for a different crime; Donte is four days away from his execution. Travis suffers from an inoperable brain tumor. For the first time in his miserable life, he decides to do what s right and confess. But how can a guilty man convince lawyers, judges, and politicians that they re about to execute an innocent man? The Confession is a gripping and saddening story that dives into the world of wrongful convictions, shattered dreams, racism, life as an innocent man on death row, and most importantly, the errors and flaws of capital punishment.

I have been a fan of John Grisham for several years and am always impressed by his writing talent.

Another audio book done! 😁 I like Grisham's style of writing court room drama! This was exceptionally good one from him! Both sad and realistic.

Started this as an audiobook. The start feels extremely promising! Can't wait to get to continue! 😁

Bailedbailed

Nope. It makes me somewhat sad. I really liked his earlier novels, A Time to Kill, The Firm, The Chamber, etc. What do you think, Littens, when you find you dislike a book from a previously favored author-did you change or did the writing change?

Mommamanzi It's good to bail every once in a while. Why force yourself to read something you don't love? 7y
Bookwormjillk Can't generalize, but I think we can say this author's writing changed. 7y
Texreader This happened with me for Dean Koontz. 7y
JulAnna @Texreader --Koontz lost me with the Odd Thomas books 7y

1. At least 15-20
2. I think they all have their good points. My last 3 books have been digital, audio, print
3. Right now I'm into magical realism and non-fiction.
4. Romance and - actually romance is really the only one I stay away from
5.When someone says said over and over. That and people judging what other people read.
6. Being able to escape for a few hours
7. I have read way fewer classics than I'd like

I ❤️John Grisham novels! It seems weird, but I liked that this one is about the death penalty. Grisham always does a great job exposing the serious flaws of our criminal justice system. Especially when innocent people are convicted due to narrow-minded people.

bobregina I loved this book, made me cry though 7y

Another confession. After I ordered books from Book Outlet I thought to myself, hey, I'd like to pick up a sandwich on my way home from work. Once I got there I changed my mind and said, nope, is rather go to Recycled Reads. I have no idea what's wrong with me. 😊

Theresa Why would you think something is wrong with you? That's perfectly normal behavior. 😄 8y
SaturnDoo @Theresa I agree...it would be abnormal if one didn't stop 😂😂😂😂 8y

jpmcwisemorgan @EvieBee84 I went to the grocery store instead, which is what I need to be doing. I still ate but more affordably. @Theresa & @SaturnDoo It probably wouldn't be so bad if I hadn't placed a Book Outlet order AND put more books on hold at the library. I'm shoving books under my bed right now because I don't have room. But they're so pretty and they speak words to me. So many words... 8y
SaturnDoo @jpmcwisemorgan wooo hooo makes my ❤ happy 🖒🖒😊 8y

Littens, I have a confession to make. In the past 4 days I have received 5 book orders for a total of 14 books. All but 2 are for me. I still have one more order of books on its way. I don't know where I'm going to put these books. Le sigh...

Theresa Is there something wrong with this?? I certainly don't think so! 😜 (edited) 8y
Amandajoy It could definitely be worse. @DGRachel When are the meetings? 8y
jfalkens @DGRachel are the meetings at a bookstore? Hopefully with used and new books 😀📚📚 8y

I love you guys. I don't have many bookworm friends and even though I only read like 2 books a month and hardly post everyday I still feel like all my weird books I (listen to) read are getting the love they deserve. Thank you!

On this the last day of #riotgrams we were tasked to have a #bookishconfession and I think my best one is that sometimes when I want to finish my book I will have silent reading time in my classroom so that I can do so!! It is important for my students to see me read right??? 😊

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book reminds us that innocent people are often sent to prison. When the guilty party finally confesses because of a brain tumor it's hard for others to be convinced. This book was eye opening and kept me wondering throughout.
