How do we learn to accept and grow through emersion into other cultural beliefs and traditions… this book presents a view on how to not only accept but honor others perspectives… In this book we see Isabella learning not only about the dragons she‘s so passionate about but the peoples and individuals that care for them … this second book was a journey into how society should work for the betterment of all rather then for political reasons…

Solid second in the series.

Still amazed by the world and characters Brennan has created.

Book #2 in the series. Another fascinating book in the series. Lady Trent again gets herself into some unusual circumstances. Mr. Wilkers joins the expedition along with Lord Hilford‘s granddaughter, Natalie. This time to the heat of the tropics. If you enjoyed book 1, then you‘ll like this one too.

I might go back to making my fancy #BookSpinBingo grids with covers, but that's a lot of work for me (I probably do it in a stupid way) and I should stop making my hobbies into work, at least when the urge isn't striking me. So here we go!

I was already partway through a reread of Tropic of Serpents, but had been sadly neglecting it. I love this book, but Life Happened.

Faranae I can't think of any “quick“ ways to do the covers thing - ultimately you still have to find the covers and copy or download them to slap them into the bingo card, and that's a big time suck even if the resizing part goes quickly.

I really like the Lady Trent books in theory, but they also somehow got shoved onto my TBR for ages. Master of Djinn is haunting my TBR, but I'm just not in the mood for it.

I had to reread this after rereading the first book for my postal mark up and I am glad I did. Such good writing, it‘s really obvious that the author is an anthro grad, the way she describes the tribes is very similar to many of the ethnographic books I read for my anthro minor. Lovely details, good world building, lots of fun. 4/5 stars. Read if you like Fantasy, Victorian fiction, and anthropology

1. I chose it back when I first created a book blog back in 2012... I can't remember how it came to me!!
2. I work seasonally: springs at a greenhouse, falls at an orchard
3. My life hasn't changed much - I am still working (so is my husband), and we never really go anywhere anyway haha
4. Tagged

I know it's already Wednesday but here is a #weeklyforecast post nonetheless!! While waiting for the next books in the Chronicles of Ixia to arrive, I'm hoping to tackle The Big Four for #agathachristieclubr2 and this month's secret #LMPBC book, which had a long and arduous journey here but did finally arrive!! Also the next two books in the Lady Trent series - started the tagged book last night, a bit slow but interesting. Not sure I am ready ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) for #BookSpinBonanza to start on Saturday as I have several not-on-my-list books to get checked off!! 😂 5y

I love how MUCH goes on in these books. It's not just dragons, it's also politics and it's also relationships between people and aaahhh.

And I love the closeness between Isabella and Tom that starts to develop here and never ever becomes romantic because that's not them.

After the intense reading last night, I've mostly stuck to crafting today. This blanket is really growing!

But I did also start on Tropic of Serpents. I'm so excited for the new book in this world -- it comes out on my birthday! And I'm really enjoying my reread of the series. Natalie is pretty awesome; I'm kinda sad there's less of her in the later books.

Kaye It‘s very pretty. It looks like an antique pattern. 6y
shanaqui @Kaye I'm not sure if it is! I got it from a site that posts a lot of different patterns from all over the place, so it could be. It's really satisfying to make and I know it by heart now, so I can listen to audiobooks while I work from now on, hurrah! 6y

Second installment in this delightful magical realism series. I love that these read like old scientific travel memoirs. The study of dragonology continues for Lady Trent but this one focuses just as much on the people as the creatures. The setting is Sub-Saharan in feel. A nice calm read between my usual mysteries full of murder and death.

If you like cozies or a novel of manners this would definitely be up your alley.

This was a good book; it really made me want to read the next book in the series. I enjoyed that the author kept to the memoir theme while not giving away or losing track of the time line. There is an exploration of same sex relationships, the mechanisms of colonialism and a wonderful discussion about expectations of motherhood and it‘s being tied being a woman.

The second book in this series definitely does not disappoint. A ton of fun with an entirely new continent full of delightful new dragons, characters, settings and cultures. I would ideally love a giant world map of the many continents and whatnot of this world. Can't wait to get started on the third book!

This series keeps getting better. I love the way its written from the view of someone looking back at their life and adventures. It allows for reflection and honesty about what she did wrong while still having the story flow well. A solid 4 out of 5 stars.

Continuing the series. It feels odd reading a book set in a humid location when it's freezing outside. I've never expected my surroundings to reflect those in what I'm reading, but for some reason it isn't feeling right for me this time.

This series is absolutely charming and I must say I enjoyed this volume more then the first. I alternated between the book and the audiobook so I didn't have to stop while cleaning and cooking, I just could put it down! Isabella continues to kick ass, push boundaries, do science, and I am 100% here for it!
