A tea party takes a poisonous turn leaving Daisy and Hazel with a new mystery to solve in the second novel of the Wells & Wong Mystery series. Schoolgirl detectives Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong are at Daisys home, Fallingford, for the holidays. Daisys glamorous mother is throwing a tea party for Daisys birthday, and the whole family is invited, from eccentric Aunt Saskia to dashing Uncle Felix. But it soon becomes clear that this party isnt about Daisy after alland she is furious. But Daisys anger falls to the wayside when one of their guests falls seriously and mysteriously illand everything points to poison. Its up to Daisy and Hazel to find out whats really going on. With wild storms preventing everyone from leaving, or the police from arriving, Fallingford suddenly feels like a very dangerous place to be. Not a single person present is what they seemand everyone has a secret or two. And when someone very close to Daisy begins to act suspiciously, the Detective Society does everything they can to reveal the truthno matter the consequences.

In German we use the idiom „giftgrün“ which can be roughly translated to poisonous green. The English equivalentis bilious/garish green but to me it os not the same.
The cover of the second case of the Detective Society is definitely giftgrün. A reference willing used as a reference to the poison that eats itself through Daisy‘s family in form of assumptions and suspicions? It almost tears them apart. Luckily Daisy & Hazel can solve the murder.

I liked the first murder mystery of the Murder Most Unladylike series very much and recommended it to my students as well. Of course I had to order the second part for the students‘ library- officially. 😜
By the way I am the teacher reading the book at my place. 🙈

#BookReport

I‘m lazy and reusing last week‘s weekly forecast, even though I didn‘t get to everything.

I‘ve read Beautiful Star and Arsenic for Tea.

I‘m currently reading The Trees and Sandman volume 7.

That means that I didn‘t get to Sandman volume 8, 9 and 10. I guess that‘s what happens when the weather change and is suddenly way better than predicted.

So now I got to tease a little bit of what will be on my weekly forecast tomorrow 😊

The 2nd book about Wells and Wong and another winner. These books are fast becoming my new favorite series

Daisy is bringing Hazel home over the vacation, and the celebration of her birthday. Guests incl friends from school, her uncle, a friend of her mother‘s and a friend of her brother‘s. During the celebration, one of the guests feels ill and later dies

I didn‘t see that end coming

The next installment is already waiting at me in the library

After a disappointing locked room mystery for adults, this was an absolute treat. Stevens writes precise & puzzle-like mysteries whilst also providing an interesting window into English norms via the "Watson" of this detective pair, Hazel Wong, whose family is from Hong Kong. I like that there are shades of grey in characters' motivations & actions & Hazel feels & acknowledges this stuff without erasing it. 2nd in the series & I'm ready for more!

The second book in the series....only another 5 to read. This was a great middle grade mystery story which is ideal for young fans of Sherlock Holmes. Two strong female lead characters trying to solve a murder within a very eccentric family and run down Manor House.

I am quite addicted to this series, it also helps that the edges are spray painted in the same colour as the book.
This one is set in the fancy home of Daisy and again the girls plus two more school friends are out to solve the crime. #crimebooks

I have read the first of the Murder Most Unladylike Mysteries which I really enjoyed (I think Arsenic for Tea is the fourth book, so I will have to have a trip to the library to find the second and third!)
I haven't read anything by Louise Rennison before but it looks very funny 😂

Anybody else crazy enough to deliberately get to the airport early enough to grab dedicated and uninterrupted reading time?

8leagueboot I have definitely done this before. Abandoned gates are one of the best reading spots! 8y
becausetrains That's actually brilliant, @RanaElizabeth 😮🤓 definitely done the same at train stations too. 8y

RanaElizabeth @becausetrains I love the train so much I decided to take the longer and just as expensive train ride over the plane ride for my second leg of this vacation. It's the Boston to Philly route which is gorgeous for sightseeing. 8y
SeeJulieRead I usually ride the bus to the airport and hate being late, so I tend to get a couple of hours of reading in before each flight! 8y
becausetrains @RanaElizabeth Enjoy!! It's been years since I've done that leg. Try to get a seat on the left side of the train between Boston and New York! 🚄🌅🏙🌃 8y
RanaElizabeth @becausetrains Yes! Thank you, it's been months since I've done this route and I couldn't remember which side was better. 8y
Aseleener I don't fly, but I do this with school pick-up. Leave earlier than I have to. I get a good parking place and good reading time. 👍 8y
EricaReads Always (before baby that is). I'd much rather be really early and have time to read at the gate than have to hurry to catch my flight. We still go early, but it's not reading time unless he's asleep. 8y

I spent Sock Sunday curled up with the second half of this beautiful book. It continues the story of friendship and sleuthing that began in last year's Murder is Bad Manners. Daisy Wells & Hazel Wong are best friends who solve mysteries in 1930s England. This time murder knocks at Daisy's door...☠✔️
