Charming, surprising, special. This unique story about a sentient typewriter and the family he loves is short, sweet, and lovely.

#middlegrademonday This is a graphic novel of two immigrant brothers who are also mourning the loss of their dad while their mom works long hours to provide for the family. It also includes the MC's birthday! My favorite part is how the author visually portrays the language they don't understand to help the reader relate to their struggle.

So, I‘m a teacher on break, and I completely lost track of the fact that today was Monday. 🤦♀️ Please still share your #MiddleGrade recommendations for books that feature a character‘s birthday this week.

My read of the year for 2025 was definitely Heart Seer: The Tale of Anise Star by Rowan Foxwood! It tells such a delightful and unique tale 💫🐺

I related to Nat‘s view of her own athleticism a little too much! I was so glad to see her challenge her own narrative and try something new-without putting expectations on herself. Lots of great advice on friendships in here, too.

This was an impulse read Christmas break because I‘m always on the lookout for more books to add to my class library, and it‘s a light pick. Mitch‘s cousins get into a food fight at Thanksgiving, and the parents decide to take all the presents away and donate them to charity. Mitch is inspired by heist movies to steal the presents back, and the cousins find a way to work together to make it happen. What will they do with them once they have them?

Inversion of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner?
How delightfully creepy.

February‘s choice is a book about monsters. What makes a monster, and how can we stop the monsters when we don‘t teach the language used to identify what they do?
