Quick read, liked the female lead and the police man very much!
I found there were almost too many other characters to remember, though they each had their quirks.
Nice to read something set in Australia, instead a few earlier in the year too.

4 hours left of a shift and you've finished your book 😮😮😫 means you choose one from the sharing shelf.
I'm sure I watched this a few years ago...
Gorgeous.
Hi Kay !! It‘s here , The Dressmaker ! Thankyou so much , I did love the movie & really want to read the book. I love fashion , and in another lifetime would love to design & make clothes👍🏻❤️ I really appreciate your kindness X X Cathy.
The Sydney Morning Herald called it “a feral version of Sea Change”, which is pretty much spot on. Despite the dark ending, there are quite a few laugh out loud moments. The humour is deeply Australian, though, so I‘m not sure how it would translate for an international audience. An interesting Australian gothic, but not without its faults. Weekend reading.
@CarolynM loving it!
Another win for #HubbysChoice I very much enjoyed this book, even though it‘s steeped in tragedy, that distinctly Australian sense of the ridiculous shines through. I have yet to see the movie but Hubs is a fan so I guess I‘ll be watching it soon. Tillys revenge on all the townsfolk at the end was wonderful, after all they put her through.4⭐️ #MountTBR2019 #Bk8 #Pop19 #PopSugarReadingChallenge #BookYouMeantToReadIn2018
Almost halfway done with this very Australian story about the scandal & gossip in a small outback town. If you ever wanted to know what those little towns were like, I highly recommend picking this up. It‘s both ridiculously funny & heartbreaking at the same time. I have a headache creeping up so I‘m just finishing a chapter, drinking my chamomile tea then heading to bed.😴Talk to you all tomorrow!
After the Hubs success at choosing my #FairyTaleRetelling book the other night, I gave him another shot when I couldn‘t make up my mind between these wonderful novels for my next read. From all these, he‘s chosen The Dressmaker coz he saw the movie the other night & loved it. So here is my #MountTBR2019 #Bk8 Tilly Dunnage left her small Aussie hometown at 10yrs old under bad terms, now she‘s back after working in Paris, hoping to prove herself.
Wow @LapReader what a lovely array of gifts, thank you so much. I love it all. You've certainly chosen some very different books and movies - I have seen The Dressmaker, but I haven't read the book and I haven't seen The Kite Runner or read any of the other books. I'm feeling very spoiled. #Readthemoviesswap
@CarolynM thank you so very much! Your #readthemovies selection is perfect and I don‘t know which to start first - the book or the movie
This has been a GREAT day for bookmail! I got the rest of what I needed for #FeedAReader and #CupidGoesPostal, the packages got here early AND my apartment manager didn't lose them 😂📚 So, those will go out tomorrow!!
I bought this one book for myself, but don't worry it wasn't on my TBR. My boss actually recommended it to me, believe it or not. 🤓
Interesting characters but quite dark and melancholy. A disappointing ending. The story didn‘t flow well.
I love that it is set in rural Australia. First you think that she is coming into terms with her past, then the shocking ending makes me cackle out loud. The movie is good, but the book is way better
Bus ride reading. Just started it, not sure how I feel about it yet...
5 books with Dressmaker #occupationinthetitle for #Fallintobooks and a pic of my grandmother, Ada, who was apprenticed as a dressmaker in Cornwall, England when she was 16. I loved the movie of the Rosalie Ham one, but haven't read any of these. Any recommendations littens? @RealLifeReading
An easy read, that has you smiling one minute frowning the next. Capturing the small town mentality from the era, many personalities, a lot that would not easily be accepted. The child who was shunned has come back and will get her revenge on vengeful town who sent her away.
I don't watch too many movies and I haven't read the book yet 😔, but I must say I really enjoyed this movie! Watched it on a limb last night, and it was great!
Saw this on Facebook today!
Can't wait to get into this book! Just saw the movie and thought it was great.

I always try to find original covers, I want the book, not the film. Plus I hate trying to remove stickers from my precious books. Don't put them on people!
I had no idea. For some reason I thought this movie was based on a different book by the same name. What a fantastic movie. The colors, the actors, the storyline were delicious. Now I have to find the book.
Just saw the movie of this and had a similar reaction as to the book - why is considered revenge comedy? It seems more like a tragedy to me, with occasional moments of black humor. Fabulous clothes, though.
Thank you!!! @thegirlwiththelibrarybag
I love the magnets...I actually needed more magnets for work. And thank you for the books, I'm super excited to dive into these. I'm curious about Playing Beatie Bow. I think that one will be interesting! 😀

I adored this book. I had never heard of it and now it seems the movie is already a year old. I have it on my Amazon Smile to-watch list!
Time to see if the costumes live up to the descriptions in the book
Last one! Matador outfit worn by the repressed (but secretly fabulous) policeman (played by Hugo Weaving in the movie ❤️) and red and white dress worn by mean girl (and recipient of major makeover) Gertrude.
It's a gothic tale set in a small, Australian country town in the 1950s. 👌
🇦🇺
Went to the Dressmaker exhibition yesterday. Exquisite! Possibly one of the most gloriously costumed movies ever! The above are the costumes worn by a rival drama guild in the fiery conclusion.
The Dressmaker follows Tilly who, after years away, has returned to her home town. Rumours & gossip follow her wherever she goes as only it can in a small (strange) town.... and so does tragedy. I look forward to watching the movie- seems to be written for the big screen.
So excited to get this baby signed by the author and director of the film
Why did Teddy have to dieeeeeeeee
This is a brilliant, quirky story. Made into a movie last year. Loved it. The characters are unique and the ending left me just saying "wow".
