Considering I am finally reading my ebooks, I hope to finish at least one this month.
This book was well written, flowed nicely and had a great plot. Very unusual ending for this kind of book. I enjoyed it!
Daniel is desperate for a fresh start. So when a mysterious figure slides a note under his door offering the position of groundskeeper at an ancient estate, he leaps at the chance, even though it seems too good to be true. Against his better judgment, he moves into the groundskeeper's cottage tucked away behind the old family crypt. But when a candle flickers to life in the abandoned tower window, Daniel realizes he isn't alone after all.
My favorite author for a cozy horror read. Hasn‘t disappointed yet. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Not a terrible book. Cliche, quick, and more of a cozy horror. This is for when you need a break from real horror and want just a bit of spook in your life. Good for what it is, not good for a real horror. Overall, I liked it! If you‘re lookin for cutesy and a bit odd, this one is for you.
I would try another Coates… but this was like a cross between Simone St James & a Goosebumps book.
Daniel, broke & looking for work is staying with his shithead drunkard cousin Kyle while he gets on his feet & gets an unlikely job offer at Craven Manor. An abandoned estate.
Poor people being stuck in the worst situations is all too relatable, BUT the plot is preposterous, the MCs are 1D & the decisions that they make are just unfathomable.
So I just started reading this and I thought from the cover & the plot synopsis that it was “old timey” & then someone was playing video games 🎮 & I thought “I‘ve been reading this in my old timey head voice, I could be reading this much faster” anyway ❤️ if you have a “modern” head voice & an oldtimey head voice. It is entirely possible I need more coffee haha
This turned out to be a decent read with an interesting story line. The ominous atmosphere at first was well conveyed by the author. I did find Daniel a bit of a frustrating character at times, he seemed to lurch from believing one person's opinion to suddenly believing the opposite with very little evidence. It's not particularly scary, more slightly chilling in places, but if you're after an entertaining quick read, it's worth a look. 3.5🌟
I was glued to this book. I ended up reading the last 75 percent all in one day. Curiosity surrounding the family that lived there and the history of the town kept me reading for answers. The horrors of the tragic family are slowly revealed. Contradicting records of the inhabitants of Craven manor keep everything a mystery until it is too late.
My first Darcy Coates book & and definitely won‘t be my last ❤️ I‘m a sucker for gothic ghost stories, & this doesn‘t disappoint! It wasn‘t particularly scary, but great ghostly fun & definitely atmospheric with a lot of twists & turns I didn‘t expect. Also, loved the characters! Daniel is dumb AF, but he‘s young, so I forgive him. Total heart of gold. And I would die for Annalise and Bran. I actually wish there was a whole book about Bran.
Pouring rain and gusty wind calls for a horror read. I‘m glad I took a quick trip to the library yesterday and got this book. Excited to see what secrets could an abandoned mansion be hiding? 💨🌧
I was planning to give it a ‘so-so‘ but I really liked the MC and the living-dead people in it. So it‘s a soft Pick from me.

Forgot to post my #littlechristmasswap package on opening day. I even took the pic, then promptly was distracted by my little monsters and it left my mind
Thank you so much @BiblioLitten ! I hid the treats from the kids and the book is amazing!
Also, thanks to @bookish_wookish for organizing! My package ended up getting caught up in some bad weather we had just as I sent it, but I checked and it is on the move still. Sorry it's arriving late
For down on his luck Daniel, opportunity knocks at the perfect time . . . but will it take him to an imperfect place? This creepy little cozy horror tale is more atmospheric than scary, but more than just a ghost story, too. You have the old, abandoned house, a set of mysteries as to what happened & who's behind the MC's sudden good fortune, & a whole host of the otherworldly to keep you guessing friend from foe. Good but not great.
🎧 Daniel is the dumbest protagonist I‘ve read in awhile. Never learns & doesn‘t listen when he should.
The house & its inhabitants are what makes this book a 4 star read. His friend/cousin is an ass & he doesn‘t learn this fact very quickly which really adds to his unbelievable stupidity? I enjoyed the book once I overlooked Dan‘s behavior & focused on the everything else that was happening.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
⭐⭐⭐ Having mixed emotions about this book. When I purchased it I was thinking it was going to be really creepy after reading reviews on this authors writing style. I was pretty disappointed to say the least regarding the atmosphere of it but I did think it had a good story line and I did feel like I was actually at Craven Manor throughout reading it.
The book is fairly simply written. No grand analogies, quizzical expressions. The scary stuff I felt weren‘t scary but I imagine reading versus audio might be better. The reason I say pick is that I do look forward to reading others of hers. It is a simple, fun story.
🚀 Escape reads - always a good ghost story

There's a list of her books being published and re-published in 2020. Here are just a few of them.
I love a good ghost story and Darcy Coates doesn't disappoint!! Daniel is in a dead end situation and is contacted by a mysterious person to become the groundskeeper for a decrepit, abandoned mansion. The Myricks family has enough secrets to fill the whole house and then some. On my 3rd Litsyversary, I'm happy to give this review!!
I love all of the ghost books written by Darcy Coates! 🖤👻

A new Darcy Coates book is coming November 18th! I can‘t wait! Also it isn‘t in the database yet so I tagged another one by her.
This was a pretty good ghost story. Every chapter ends with you wanting to know what happens next. Can‘t wait to read more from this author.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was excellent as expected. Darcy Coates always delivers. This is probably one of my favorites. The characters are great and I got pretty invested in them.
I'm continuing on my horror kick with some Darcy Coates. I'm ready for some spooky house goodness.
This was a sweet ghost story that I felt read more YA than adult, but that didn‘t hinder my enjoyment of it at all.
This was my second Darcy Coates book after Hunted, which I loved. This one wasn't as great for me, but it was a pretty quick, fun read with a likeable main character. It read more like a fairy tale than a horror novel, so if you're looking for scares this is probably not where to find them. I'm glad I read Hunted first, I'll still try some of her other work based on the strength of that book.
“Shoot for the moon. If you miss, you‘ll die horribly in the void of space.”
I am absolutely in love with this author! She‘s extremely talented with her world building and making you fall in love with her characters. This wasn‘t a scary read but it was quite suspenseful at some points.
This took me way longer to read than it should have because my long distance boyfriend just moved in and I‘ve been spending time with him.
A ghost story with a great setting, likeable main character, and a few twists. I won‘t say this was a scary read but it was enjoyable.
Another fun haunted house tale. These are very fun to listen to, although sometimes the characters can be very frustrating and stupid. I wanted more scares and creepiness in this one but it was still a good read.
I‘m still pretty sick, so needed a light, easy sweet book. I chose this as my read. It ended up being just right. It‘s not a fabulous book. Sort of cliche. Not really scary. But a little creepy at times. Kind of reminds me of Scooby Doo in an odd unrelated way.
This book was a pretty good ghost story. There were some twist in the book I wasn‘t expecting. I liked the main character and the way he interacted with everyone. Would recommend if you are looking for a good ghost story that is not too scary.
A pretty good story. I thought I had it figured out and it took a few unexpected turns. I did fall a bit behind on this for the #spookyfriendsbookclub thanks to heavy duty migraine
I loved Craven Manor. I've never read anything from Darcy Coates before, but after this I will definitely be reading more.
This was the first pick for #spookyfriendsbookclub 🖤 I can't waite to see what we pick next.

Voting will begin later this evening for our next selection! What‘s everyone‘s thoughts so far on this book!? I found it very hard to put down after today‘s chapter! Even more so now that we‘ve learned who the real villain is! So many twists and turns. Anyone else going to be looking forward to more books from this author? #spookyfriendsbookclub

Today‘s chapter was 21. How about the description of the abandoned town?
This book is good so far. I have some catching up to do.

One hour before sunrise and I‘m exhausted and finally can muster up the willpower to bookmark at chapter 19.

I can‘t stop myself. I‘m too interested to stop at a chapter a day. #sorrynotsorry #spookyfriendsbookclub
I am really enjoying this book. I discovered Coates last year and really like her work. The ones I have read are like good, old-fashioned, gothic ghost stories that I read as a tween.
#spookyfriendsbookclub
Anyone else almost read ahead?! #spookyfriendsbookclub
I'm a huge fan of Darcy Coates but it took a minute to get into this one. I think it was just my mood when I started it though because I set it aside for a few days then picked it back up and blazed right through it. This is by far my favorite of her books. More than just a ghost story or haunted house tale, it is a wonderful gothic fantasy with ghosts, villains, fairy tale style monsters, and a creepy manor. Loved it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Just now getting today‘s chapter in for #spookyfriendsbookclub! Got a new cuppa for my tea! Relaxing with some detox blend, a few jolly ranchers, and books!
