There were things I absolutely loved about this book, and things I found infuriating... @TheBookKeepers @kellyann28 @Shadowfat You can probably all guess what those things were since we were pretty much all on the same page!
Amanda, this was a great pick! I‘ll try to get it in the mail to you tomorrow or Sunday.

Great pick for our #LMPBC, @TheBookKeepers ! I really enjoyed this one overall.
I'll be sending it along next week and using media mail so it will be to you in a little bit @johanna414

Reading before 7AM on a Saturday thanks to my 3 year old. As much as I love reading, I would rather be sleeping. 😫😴
I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I enjoyed the different POVs from the family members. Since this copy is an arc I wonder if anything changed in the final copy. This is on it's way to you @kellyann28 . @Johanna414 @TheBookKeepers #lmpbc
Finished this at the river yesterday & just dropped it in the mailbox to go to @Shadowfat for our #lmpbc pick!

Super random but I had a dream last night I was marking up a book for our lmpbc Group. I got to the last 20 pages and realized I had already read the book and had previously marked it up (just the last pages tho) with 2 different colored pens than the one I‘d been using! Haha it was weird & oddly stressful
Current view of the boys fishing while I finish up my #lmpbc pick for this month. Really enjoying this story!!
This book was great. Its about a girl who goes to prison for murder and her disabled younger brother goes missing. Loved all the characters and it was awesome to get a lot of POV from the main characters in the story. Good ending.
4 and a 1/2 stars....would've been 5 if it made me cry but alas it did not
I‘m like @kellyann28 and get way too excited for the #lmpbc and have my book selections planned out way far in advance lol!!! #GroupG members, how do you feel about this book? Anyone read it already or prefer another option? @Johanna414 @Shadowfat
I really enjoyed this book. An excellent story about family and friendship. Really liked all the different characters especially Venus and Tessa. Put a big ? on my face at the end.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ This one gets four stars from me. While I truly like the writing style and the story was quirky, it seemed a little two dimensional for me. I'd still recommend it though.
I'm rather impressed, this book is off to a good start and it's rather witty. I heard good things about it and I'm finding it to be living up to it's hype at the moment.
Such a terribly sad story. I love how the author wrote from the perspective of an autistic child. An amazing insight into their mind.
I really liked this audiobook about young Venus Black who is sent to juvenile detention for killing her stepfather, her brother Leo who goes missing while she is away, and the people surrounding the two. When Venus is released at 19 the only things she wants are to start over and to find Leo and bring him home but nothing is ever that simple. Great on audio.
Intriguing story line and great moral at the end of the story. We follow 'Venus' as she enters prison after killing her stepfather, and are at her side as her autistic brother goes missing then as she's released, we follow her desparate search for him. We also get to read from her brothers POV, and the PIC of several characters in the book.
Just started this one. Not sure how I feel so far, but it‘s keeping my interest!
I loved this book; it was very well done. I wouldn't think of it being a young adult novel. I felt Venus‘s pain, she had so many obstacles to overcome. I think this writer took a several sensitive subjects and wove a great story.
This was a great novel ! The author chose a light-hearted approach to some serious issues .It is well written and could be easily read by adults snd teenagers. Highly recommend this and I'm looking forward to more from this author !
This was an interesting read. I had to remind myself that it was set in the 80s, a time where phone booths were prevalent and missing children were on milk cartons. I loved Leo's voice throughout the novel and his perspective of events.
I think my favorite aspect of this book is Leo's narrative. I love reading his side of things and how he views the world.
Starting my next read ! Another win from Librarything's Early Reviewers program!
I‘m not a huge YA fan, but I really enjoyed this one. Each character had a messy life in their own right, and each one was redeemed by the person you THOUGHT should be the most scattered of all. I also loved that the author included Leo‘s POV, autism and all. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

BEAUTIFUL + GRIPPING novel about what the meaning of a true family really is and how far you would go to protect it. 💛

This. Book. Was. So. Good.
Heather Lloyd is a MASTER of writing. This book, overall, has been marketed as a YA but I‘ve seen it on adult lists too - and there‘s a reason for that: it is the perfect “YA” book for adults to read. Venus Black is enigmatic. This story is gorgeous and wrought with grief and strife and hope. The ending could be better, but I think that‘s because I didn‘t want it to end.
This book is tearing at my heartstrings! 😢
A fairly solid debut. Young teen is incarcerated for killing her stepfather, then is released, wanting to create a new identity for herself. In the meantime, her younger brother with autism disappears. So several different storylines going on.
While I wouldn‘t say I absolutely loved this one, I did enjoy it. It‘s not technically classified as YA as far as I can tell, but it seems as though it should be targeted as such.
She makes it hard to concentrate on my book.
This book ripped out my heartstrings and played them like a violin! I laughed. I wept. I never wanted it to end. Not your typical YA novel at all. Venus kills her stepfather and is sent to a teen detention facility until she is 19. In the meantime her autistic younger brother goes missing. What follows is a heartbreakingly beautiful story of betrayal, redemption, and family that has nothing to do with biology and everything to do with love.❤️
This family drama hooks you from the very first pages and never really lets up! Excellent and authentic characters and a fantastic storyline makes this one of my very favorite reads so far for 2018! An impressive debut novel!!
Loved the premise of this - a young girl kills her stepfather and then while she's in juvie, her little brother goes missing. Although there's plenty of mystery, the big reveal of her motive doesn't come until the very end. I also got a little frustrated with the constant back and forth between character perspectives. Overall, this would have been a more satisfying read if it was classified as YA. It feels too simplistic otherwise. #arc ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
An enjoyable book about forgiveness, creating a new future, and family that takes place in Washington and California circa 1980.
The author, Heather Lloyd, just "liked" my review on Goodreads, AAAAMAZING! #netgalley
I apparently won this book and didn‘t even know it! Talk about #happymail !!! #arc #booksof2018 #booklovers
This a heart-warming story about a girl who turns a bad childhood choice into an opportunity to change her family‘s circumstances for the better. At the age of 15, Venus is convicted of killing her stepfather. That same night, her mentally-challenged little brother, Leo, disappears. This is a gripping story about the search for Leo and about Venus searching for redemption.
This is a solid 4 ☆ read. Content-wise, it is a little outside of my usual preference, but it is very well-written and engaging.
The book blurb for this was misleading, and although the story still wound up to be somewhat intriguing it just didn‘t quite hit the mark for me.
