Loving this graphic novel and this nod to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Well done.
Loving this graphic novel and this nod to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Well done.
This book was my gateway to my Blake Crouch obsession. It was like Lost meets Twin Peaks and I couldn‘t devour it fast enough. Blew my mind! Highly recommended backlist title. Thanks for the tag! Any who wants to play is officially tagged as well. 😍📚. #alphabetgame. #LetterP
Best #dedication I‘ve seen in awhile! 😂😂😂😂Can‘t wait to dive into this book now!
Fast paced and suspenseful. Deserving of all the book buzz it got. I enjoyed this one and I feel like I really need to read an Agatha Christie novel now (I know, I know-don‘t revoke my book nerd card please). The setting was great. The characters were well done. The audiobook was fantastic. No complaints here!
Meh... Lots of action but not a ton of substance in this one, which used to be fine for me but alas, my reading tastes- they are a-changing. About 1% of the population are born as “brilliants”-people with special gifts. The regular folks are feeling threatened, etc. I was underwhelmed by most of it. Predictable with flat characters.
This was... interesting? I enjoyed the world building but had a really hard time connecting with any of the characters (besides the psychic cats, of course-they were awesome). Decision making didn‘t seem to make sense at times and that is a big pet peeve of mine. Overall it was just ok for me. #bbbbc
2 brothers start a hoax about aliens...what could possibly go wrong? This was hilarious and a quick read. Great memorable characters and outlandish shenanigans. I really enjoyed this one! 🥰👽📚
#ComicComfort @Mavey Thanks for the tag @Kenyazero
I just started reading graphic novels and memoirs a few years ago and they are like book dessert! Sooo many favorites but this series just pulled me in right away. I have devoured every volume and want more (see what I mean about book dessert?)!
Thanks @megnews for the book! Just got it today. Excited to dive in for our March #YABuddyRead. 🥰❤️📚😍🤓🙏☀️
“Police! Stop or I‘ll shoot!
My chest screams out, pounding. I don‘t trust what‘ll happen if I stop. My instincts say to flee. My brain says to stop. I throw my hands up and turn, but I shut my eyes. I don‘t want to see it happen.”
5⭐️ for keeping me listening to this audiobook! Daunting undertaking at almost 41 hours and it‘s about building a cathedral in the 1100s. Honestly if it wasn‘t for the tons of people who have raved about it I would have given it a hard pass without even trying. But it was just so damn compelling I couldn‘t stop listening. I feel accomplished after this one!
So this happened today! 1 year I‘ve been creeping around Litsy now and so glad I joined. It‘s been a crazy year but I just love love love the good vibes I get from Litsy and all you beautiful Littens. Thanks Litsy!!😍❤️📚🥰
Reading this for my IRL book club. Very interesting so far. Looking forward to our discussion on it!
This was fantastic. The first in a magical series written back in 2005 I think. I adored Yelena and Valek. They had great chemistry. The magic was interesting-I believe that gets more attention in the sequel. Supporting characters were also very well done. I really enjoyed following Yelena on her journey. Creepy bad guys, valiant soldiers, and a dangerous job (food taster for the Commander)...this book has a lot to offer. 4⭐️
So. Much. Fun!!! 80‘s references are as thick as expected. And Wil Wheaton does a fantastic job narrating. Loved it just as much as the first one. This is the sequel 2020 needed. I‘m afraid for my book hangover after this. I want to go back to the OASIS!!
Who doesn‘t love Tiny Tim? Even Scrooge‘s soulless heart grew three times its size when he saw that sweet little boy and his tiny little crutch. Great classic for getting into the Christmas spirit. Thanks @SerialReader God bless us every one!
You know you have a shitty job when a wormhole opens up in one of the showrooms (think of a generic IKEA) and you are voluntold to go fetch an old lady that fell through... with your ex. Yikes. This was funny and a great albeit short adventure. #lionelritchiedoormat
Was not prepared for how creepy this book is. I guess the cover should have given me a clue but geez...😳 Suspenseful and action packed and did I mention creepy? Character motivations didn‘t seem quite right to me but otherwise it was...creepy.
I‘m baaaaaaack! I am still recovering from 2 foot surgeries but feeling decent enough to rejoin the land of book reading. This is a middle grade graphic novel that is so cute and a quick read. Loved the illustrations as much as the story. And that library!!! 😍😍😍😍
I just got through my 2nd foot surgery in 6 weeks. I have had very little desire to post any reviews between the pain and the medication but after 33 hours with this audiobook I felt I should at least give it a shout out. The narrator did an amazing job with this brick. I do wish I wasn‘t so medicated while reading this because I feel like I missed a lot but it kept my mind off the pain. Alas no space dragons but Paolini does not disappoint.
I got this graphic novel version of Animal Farm as a gift. I had never read the original novel so I honestly can‘t say how it compares, but the drawings are delightful (well, except for the gory ones). Lots of great animal pictures (and a few pages of graphic terribleness). The parts where it gets real were a little tough to look through admittedly. It‘s not that bad but if you are sensitive to that stuff I would advise against it.
I‘m a little late hopping aboard the Colson Whitehead train (see what I did there?😉🚂) but I am here now. He has this way of making you sit with his words and really think it all over but doing so with textbook-like precision. I don‘t know if that makes any sense but I‘m going with it. I wanted more info about the tunnels and how the trains worked but alas I understand it is all a giant metaphor. So well done. Can‘t stop thinking about Cora.
Book 2 of the Schuyler Sisters trilogy from the ever talented Beatriz Williams was great. Loved Tiny and Caspian. I can‘t wait to read more about Pepper in the final book. Beautiful setting. Interesting and flawed characters. Compelling story. What‘s not to love here?
Still recovering from my foot surgery so doing another short version of reviews... All of these were 4 ⭐️ reads!
Network Effect-I love Murderbot! Ready for the 6th one!
The Likeness-Wow! Loving these characters. Great story.
Kindred-Amazed #audiosync has this for a free download over the summer. Eager for more from Butler.
New Kid-Stole this from my daughter to read while she was at school. So great. She loved it too.
I had surgery on my foot last week so I haven‘t been keeping up with my reviews. Here‘s the short short version...
Lumberjanes vol 3-The art changed and it lost some magic for me. 3⭐️
What I Carry- surprise 4⭐️. YA book about aging out of foster care. Really liked this!
Book Woman- 4⭐️ great historical fiction about the blue people of KY and pack horse librarians.
Passengers-4⭐️ great thriller! Great potential for a book club. Lots to discuss
Holy Secret Bunker Batman! This was the sequel to Nemesis and was yet another crazy ride. Action packed and super fast paced I had to keep going. Suspense filled till literally the last page. There is some teen angst (ok a lot of teen angst) but the plot just keeps moving. Not much extra time for brooding. Lots of twists. I am ready for the final book in the trilogy! Fans of Maze Runner would like this series I think. Very fun. 4⭐️
Most #unpopularopinion of the year alert... This did not work for me. The only reason I am giving it a so-so vs pan is because of Benji (love that guy). Maybe it‘s because I did audio vs physical book. Maybe I waited too long after Beartown (the best book I read in 2017) to start this. Maybe my kids are interrupting me every 10 seconds and I was never able to get immersed in the story. I wanted to love it but there was no magic here for me. 😢
American Beauty vibes here. So awkwardly creepy yet I needed to know how it ended. Loved her writing style. Terrible decision making abounds (which is typically a deal breaker for me) but I couldn‘t stop reading. After moving into an expensive and gorgeous neighborhood, the perfect facade is marred once new relationships are tested. Cringe factor is high but still page turner-y!
This was everything I love about fall in one deliciously drawn graphic novel. I want to live in that pumpkin patch. My mouth was watering as they went from food stand to food stand snacking on pumpkin bombs, freeto pies, s‘mores, chili fries, fudge, kettle corn, pies, caramel apples...🥰 The adventures these two teens take on their last night working at the patch are so cute. I can‘t wait to read every Rainbow Rowell book in existence! 5⭐️
Moloka‘i is the Hawaiian island home to the former leprosy settlement. The history of this place is as heartbreaking as the island is beautiful. I was completely surprised by how much I fell in love with these characters. This book utterly blew me away. The father-daughter relationship brought me to tears almost every time they interacted. Just wow. Highly recommend. All the stars!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wine absolutely helps! 🍷Fun tidbits about relationships. Easy silly read. “Falling in love is easy. Agreeing on how to load the dishwasher is hard.” Amen!
This was great! Gratuitously gory and unapologetic. Mind blowing and exceedingly well written. I have admittedly never read Lovecraft (and don‘t have any plans to either) but I read one review on goodreads that said Lavalle does Lovecraft better than Lovecraft. Regardless it was a hell of a ride.
I lurrrved Warcross. This was just ok for me. No actual Warcross games and lots of outrageous predicaments that get more confusing as the book goes on. That‘s not going to stop me from trying more from this author though.
This was eerie... fever from a (no joke here) coronavirus wipes out 95% or so of the world population. The survivors have to rebuild from the ground up. It is Walking Dead without the zombies essentially. Although I found this too verbose in spots, it is an interesting take on the post apocalyptic genre. The ending was satisfying but somewhat abrupt considering the majority of the book is a long, slow burn. Overall I enjoyed it.
This felt a bit too much like a Scooby Doo caper. (I would have gotten away with it too if it wasn‘t for those meddling kids!) I liked the premise but it got too convoluted and outrageous. Essentially 6 kids start at a new school but they are clones of 6 other kids at the school -well 5, actually since 1 of the originals died shortly before the clones showed up. Chaos ensues. #scoobysnacks
Volume 2 done but I have a long way to go if I expect to catch up on this series. Not sure if I‘ll make it to the end but would at least like to get through the volumes that include the genius of Noelle Stevenson. These are funny and clever and just so darn fun to read.
This is Maggie O‘Farrell‘s debut and it is great. Not as polished as her more recent work but very well done. Alice is in a coma after being hit by a car and the story jumps around all over the place in time and POV piecing together the events of her life. It was confusing a couple times but the pacing was spot on. This was ambitious and she totally pulled it off. 4⭐️
2 boys fall in love on a food truck. This has some heavy themes but was handled well. I listened on audio thanks to #audiosync and it had 2 different male narrators. I really liked this. Great characters. Delicious food. Perfect summer read. 4⭐️
The second in the duology of Grace and Fury started out slow. I almost gave up on it. Honestly not sure if it was the book or my sudden obsession with Hamilton... but it took about 150 pages before it picked up enough to really suck me into the story. And then I couldn‘t stop. Love these sisters (and the covers for both books are stunning) who are clearly not throwing away their shot. 😉
This was a fun steamy college roommate romance. I loved Summer and Fitz as characters both separately and as a couple. The other roommates were also great characters. I hope Hunter gets his girl in a future book. This brought me back to my campus life...if only I lived with a gorgeous hockey player.... or 3. 😎
I loved the first book in this series and the sequel is just as satisfying. Girl pirates kicking ass.. I like the fun adventures and the Jack Sparrow vibes. I am curious if her other books will live up to this series. If you are looking for a fun easy read, look no further.
This was a sweet YA about girl power. A bit angsty for my taste but the portrayal of how the working poor live was eye opening. Deciding what bills to pay, living without power, everyone supporting each other-that was my favorite part of this book.
Ok so you have to seriously suspend disbelief as soon as you start this. I worked in an amusement park for years as a teenager and I live in Central Florida so I can tell you that this set up is preposterous...BUT it is a train wreck that I couldn‘t look away from. Essentially a hurricane comes up fast and park is evacuated except for a crew of 300+ workers (mostly teens) who ride out storm and go all Lord of the Flies. Bananas 🍌!!
This was an exceedingly awkward read and I loved it! An African American babysitter takes a white toddler to the grocery store and security gets called on her assuming she is kidnapping the girl. So many cringe worthy situations that are meant to really open your eyes and see from a different perspective. Alix‘s overcompensating and Emira‘s love for little Briar make for a compelling story.
Sex, drugs, and rock n roll in the 70‘s... This book does not disappoint. The free bookmark I got with this #arc looks like a concert ticket and I would pay good money to see this band live in concert. This felt soooo real. I read the book and listened to the audiobook at the same time which made it so much more immersive. 7 band members and they all had a very distinct voice. Seriously amazing. 5⭐️
How could you not love this? I both laughed out loud and cried reading these short letters. I loved the witty Helen and the proper Frank. All the stars for this slim book!!
Bailed at 36%. I was bored. Wasn‘t connecting with the characters. I kept skimming and just decided to call it. I won this in a giveaway so at least I gave it a try.
Cilka‘s Journey is heartbreaking and beautiful just as The Tattooist of Auschwitz was. How much can one woman endure? This is mind bogglingly horrific but she puts one foot in front of the other every day and persists for years. I can‘t wrap my head around it. To spend 3 years at Auschwitz to be then sentenced to 15 more years in a Russian work camp for collaborating with the enemy. Her bravery and loyalty to her friends is unmatched.
I finally read it! This book is most definitely inspired lunacy as the blurb suggests. Holy Gargantubrain! Monty Python... in space... with lots of big made up words and things. I can see myself revisiting this again and again for those ridiculous little nuggets of hilarity. Keeping this one on my favorites shelf. #42 #dontpanic #deepthought #InfiniteImprobabilityDrive #PanGalacticGargleBlasters #Vogonpoetry #mostlyharmless
“If people are imperfect enough to destroy their minds, perhaps they cannot perfect the procedure that allows them to do so.”
I wanted to love this but I just kept getting lost. I found most of the characters very flat. The winding storyline was confusing. I finished it but it was just ok.
