Well, that was emotional. This book did an amazing job of handling some deeply difficult issues while at the same time maintaining a sweetness between the two main characters that I adored.

This is the story of one June in the lives of two boys who are each struggling with a difficult secret and who take turns helping each other manage the hurdles they're facing. This deals with some serious topics (and I like that the fact they're gay is not the source of any of the drama; not for themselves, not for their families, not for their friends) but still manages to give them a sweet love story.
2 boys fall in love on a food truck. This has some heavy themes but was handled well. I listened on audio thanks to #audiosync and it had 2 different male narrators. I really liked this. Great characters. Delicious food. Perfect summer read. 4⭐️
I actually hated Openly Straight but after his lol funny bio I decided to try another one of this author‘s books. I‘m so glad I did. I loved this one. It‘s maybe a bit darker than some of the m/m YA fiction I‘ve been reading but it‘s really well done. And there‘s a food truck. #lgbtqia
I didn‘t read the description before diving in, so I didn‘t expect the levels of teen angst, innovation, grief, and trauma in this book. This was the kind of book I couldn‘t listen to with my husband because of the overlaps with his own trauma. Great read. #grief #trauma #lgbtcharacter #foodtruck #lgbtbook
Such a sweet story. I loved seeing the main characters take care of each other through all the tough times. It's refreshing to see male characters feeling vulnerable like this.
Bill Konigsberg has written another realistic and relevant YA book. This one is more intense in that it addresses more serious issues, but is also relatable by teens given the realistic dialogue between characters. A book I will highly recommend to my more mature high school students. I love the title too.
Audiobook and an evening walk. I checked this out on a whim and I am a bit smitten. Now I might be reading past my bedtime again. #nosleeptillbookless #hoopla #yaylibraries
I read this in one night after my boyfriend recommended it to me, and I don't fancy there's any other way. Packed with lovable and real characters it deals with masculinity, race, and consent against a beautiful backdrop of two boys trying not to fall in love. Even the cover is stunning. Read this one and want more by Bill Konigsberg? Try The Porcupine of Truth by the same author. Enjoy!
I need to do something about this! These are all the books on my “currently-reading” shelf on Goodreads! I hope to knock some of these out over the holiday.
This was not the sweet, gay, YA romance I thought it was gonna be. It‘s about Jordan, who is compensating for a mother who can no longer function as an adult with the loss of her husband, his father. Then there is masculine, Max, who has just survived an event that deals with consent. These 2 become friends and more in this novel that is endearing, smart, and reminds us that we never know what another person is going through. Pick!!
I love authors who explore difficult issues, accepting and acknowledging everyone is different and that is to be celebrated, bringing current issues to light. The author succeeds in this as well as how messed up adults can be in what not to do. While I didn‘t find this book to be at the same caliber as the books like Autoboyography, I did like the author‘s effort in exploring the tough issues and bringing some unique issues to light
The best part of being home from a show is my furry reading buddies. The worst part of being home from a show... also sort of my furry reading buddies. 😂 Tommy is a proud member of #KAL.

I thought this would be a light LGBTQ YA romance but in truth, it is more layered than that. Really really good.
You think you are picking up a cute love story.
You quickly realize that one of the young protagonists is facing homelessness.
A character has a gambling addiction.
Another is wondering if what happened one night is rape.

Oh, my heart. Just started this. Adorable teenaged boys - that‘s my reading catnip.

I really connected to both of the main characters and loved their story 💖
I also thought the portrayal of friendships was great ,like complicated but supportive friend groups.
One of my complaints was tho, sooo much sweating I know it's set in Arizona but 😓😫

Morning reading! I just started this book and I already love it. I've been trying some different genres this year to branch out, but this reminds me that contemporary is my happy place.
#libraryhaul
And traded in my finished open books reading challenge to claim my prize 🎉
Day before my birthday book haul! The tote was free with a 3-book purchase (because OF COURSE I need another tote bag), and I can‘t decide if I‘m keeping the bookmarks or gifting them to a 3rd grader in my Sunday School class who‘s having trouble with bullying at school. As for the books, I don‘t even know which one to start with!
