Bent Heavens | Daniel Kraus
Kraus gets under your skin with brutal, elegant efficiency. Necessarily horrifying, devastatingly timely.Kiersten White, New York Times-bestselling author of The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein and Slayer From New York Times-bestselling author Daniel Kraus comes a breakneck, genre-defying YA thriller perfect for fans of Kiersten White, Neal Shusterman, and M. T. Anderson. Liv Flemings father went missing more than two years ago, not long after he claimed to have been abducted by aliens. Liv has long accepted that hes dead, though that doesnt mean she has given up their traditions. Every Sunday, she and her lifelong friend Doug Monk trudge through the woods to check the traps Lee left behind, traps he set to catch the aliens he so desperately believed were after him. But Liv is done with childhood fantasies. Done pretending she believes her fathers absurd theories. Done going through the motions for Dougs sake. However, on the very day she chooses to destroy the traps, she discovers in one of them a creature so inhuman it can only be one thing. In that moment, shes faced with a painful realization: her dad was telling the truth. And no one believed him. Now, she and Doug have a choice to make. They can turn the alien over to the authorities...or they can take matters into their own hands. On the heels of the worldwide success of The Shape of Water, Daniel Kraus returns with a horrifying and heartbreaking thriller about the lengths people go to find justice and the painful reality of grief. Bent Heavens is the darkest, angriest alien horror story that I've ever encountered. Hell. Yes.Stephanie Perkins, New York Times-bestselling author of There's Someone Inside Your House

Low Pick 3½⭐
This freaking amazing cover just kept drawing me in…until finally I caved and listened to it. While I didn‘t love it, I did like certain aspects of it quite a lot. All of them happen in the last quarter of the book and I can‘t give those away, so that‘s all I‘m going to say about that. The only reason this is labeled “ya” is because the MCs are in high school…that‘s it. Otherwise, it is decidedly adult because of the graphicness.

Was not prepared for how creepy this book is. I guess the cover should have given me a clue but geez...😳 Suspenseful and action packed and did I mention creepy? Character motivations didn‘t seem quite right to me but otherwise it was...creepy.

I really dislike horror. But. This book, a Stranger Things meets ET, was really trippy. Interesting premise; great ending. (But so so dark).

A creepy, quick YA read. The story follows Liv, whose father has disappeared. Before going missing, Lee was a local teacher. He went crazy before losing his job & everyone in town knows about it. Then Liv & her friend Doug seem to find out that maybe Lee wasn't as crazy as everyone thought. I won't give anything away, but the end of this book is not what I was expecting at all. It really took me by surprise & made the story all the more timely.

Bonus from working at home - my lunches are a lot more healthier than if I was actually at work. Plus I get a view of outside! Could deal without the husband bothering me though 🤣

Almost half way through this book and not sure how I feel about it.

Nute I know that if I had an opportunity to work from home that my lunches would increase significantly in nutritional value!😃 5y
abookdragonsretreat I've recently bought this book, let me know if it's any good! Is there any romance so far ? 😊📖 5y
Curiouser_and_curiouser Yum! You've got it all! And a window to boot! My hubby worked from home for over 10 years, I know what you mean...how peaceful is it when they're out?! I work mostly on weekends and some nights so I always make sure I make myself a beautiful nutritious lunch when I'm home alone in the day. My weekend meals are mostly a container of fruit 😊 5y

TheLibrarian @Nute I never realized how poor nutrition wise my lunches work until I started working from home this week. 5y
TheLibrarian @AmyTheBookdragon No romance so far. Not sure if that‘s a plus for you or not. Hoping to finish it soon. I just need to hunker down and spend some quality time just reading. 5y
TheLibrarian @Curiouser_and_curiouser So peaceful! Also when I‘m working, the hubby‘s at his desk planning video games so I hear a lot of clicking. Fruit is an excellent lunch! 5y
abookdragonsretreat @TheLibrarian ah thats good, hoping that it's very dark and eerie! 5y
BittersweetBooks Ha! I‘m the opposite because I pack a healthy lunch with healthy snacks. When I‘m at home, there are too many close-by temptations 😋 5y
TheLibrarian @BittersweetBooks I‘ve tried packing healthier but then I get hungry and there is a little cafe with snacks that‘s hard to resist sometimes (especially the chocolate). 5y
BittersweetBooks @TheLibrarian hmm that sounds tempting too haha 5y
Gissy I'm eating healthier since I'm in this quarantine too! 5y
TheLibrarian @AmyTheBookdragon Just finished it today! It was different than I thought. Less scary and touched on some more serious topics. Overall it wasn‘t bad but not my favorite. 5y
abookdragonsretreat @TheLibrarian good to hear, I'm looking forward to reading it! 5y

Whew. This one got really dark really fast. I couldn't finish. Maybe it served a purpose but I don't do very well with torture.
