Looking for a modern writer of ghost stories for my October book ?
This is a beautiful light hearted story . I'm glad I spent most of last year pushing myself to read in spite of the pandemic . Looking forward to reading her other novels .
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Hopefully 2021 will be much easier for reading . The pandemic ruined my motivation for reading :( But I'm slowly getting back into reading again ! Here's to a new year with lots of interesting books !
Waiting impatiently for my first pair of eyeglasses ! I want to read without my eyes feeling tired !
Has anyone else been completely unmotivated because of the pandemic ? I'm actually in the middle of a fun light-hearted book , but just not interested .
Gave in and bought my first pair of reading glasses ! Unfortunately the frame is slightly too big for my head , LOL ! Drugstore glasses are not one size fits all ! Hopefully when I get the chance to get a pair from an optical store they will fit better and I will be able to read a lot more often.
I know it's been awhile since I posted. Life got complicated for a few weeks . Now that things have settled, I can relax and enjoy reading again.
This was a nice easy read. The novel is short but interesting. The mystery of what happened to civilization doesn't get resolved, but the slowly revealed connection of the main characters keeps your attention. Definitely will seek out another book by this author.
Started off great , but slowly became boring. It's well written, just not as interesting as I was expecting it to be. The Murphys are an interesting part of the Lost Generation , too bad fhe second half portrayed them in a modern tabloid style .
At the rate I'm going , I'll have to live way past age 100 to finish my current/future TBR pile ! But not going to frustrate myself with reading challenges anymore ! If a challenge becomes frustrating , it's okay to let it go!
I started out really liking the story. But my interest waned the more I read. The premise was good , but the characters and their actions were boring .
Found this at B&N and couldn't resist the splurge! It has most of her writings including some book reviews of her contemporaries! I decided to donate my older smaller collection of hers to the library.
This is a nonfic about the history of fonts . It's actually quite interesting. There's several photo examples in the book and some surprising stories too.
Is anyone else a "lazy" reader? I love reading, currently reading an interesting nonfiction called Just My Type about fonts . But only wind up reading for about a half hour before bedtime. LOL! Why do I let everything else distract me?
This was a sweet romance about two older people finding love later in life. Got this as a win from Librarything's Early Reviewers contest !
This is a nice collection of stories. But it's also slightly boring. I think it would work better if you get the audiobook. It's actually read by Hanks . He's always fun to watch in interviews, so he probably does a good job reading his book .
Is anyone else tired of the friggen cold winter!?
This was a great rom-com / family drama ! Saw the movie last year and loved it. This is like reading the director's cut , lots of extra scenes! Highly recommend this novel and looking forward to reading the sequels!
This was a really good novel. It is a satirical ode to being a reader . Half of the chapters tell the story of a man on a quest to finish reading a book . He get interrupted in the oddest manner several times. The other half of the chapters tell the various stories that he is trying to read . If you enjoy unusual storytelling , then give this a chance.
My Resolution is to seriously avoid any reading slumps !
I couldn't find an Xmas book that interested me this year. So I picked a winter themed novel instead.
This was an interesting Historical Fiction . At first the nurse watching the Fasting girl appeared cold and cynical, while everyone else appeared loving . Then in the last third of the novel an explanation changes everything you thought about the adults in this story.
This was a really interesting history book . The author did great job with her research . Glad I read it .
Besides Dickens , does anyone know of a really good literary novel set at Christmas time ?
Really enjoyed this novel ! It's a light-hearted drama . There are a few sad scenes but , overall I smiled through most of the story .
This was an interesting story about a man whose dog is dying from cancer, but can't handle that truth . His journey of acceptance of his impending loss is at turns funny , sweet and sad .
This was a short novella that was nice and easy to read . But I was a little bored by it. I've heard that her full length novels are better.
An interesting YA novella from Stephen King . It's very good and quick to read . I enjoyed it.
This has an interesting approach to a love story. A young couple meet by accident on a college campus in 1958 , then there's 3 different versions of their relationship that play out. I enjoyed this novel .
My TBR pile keeps growing !
What is it about summer that always seems to put me into a reading slump? Does anyone else lose their momentum during summertime ?
I liked the idea of a dog narrator. So I enjoyed the first half of the book . But then there was a change in plot which just seemed to be an unnecessary pile on and kind of ruined the rest of it for me .
This was an interesting short story collection. I liked all the stories . But some of the lead females were hard to relate to . Their behavior seemed too bitchy to garner my sympathy . Fans of Sittenfeld will probably love this collection .
This was an interesting fantasy novel . There's multiple POVs being showcased in alternate chapters . It's kind of a character study with very little plot involved . But it's beautifully written ! If you want to read about some interesting characters in a water-logged Earth , then give this a shot !
These are the two newest additions to my physical TBR pile !
This was a wonderful historical fiction ! Set in 1938 and early 20th century West Virginia . Several good characters to cheer for and it keeps you guessing as to who the real "villian" is in the mystery subplot . Highly recommended !
I have always liked poetry . I think it started when I found out I shared my birthday with Lord Byron ! The classics are my fave . Would really love some recs of newer writers . Only type of writing I don't like is dark/violent , just not my taste .
Is anyone else a lazy reader ? LOL ! I love reading, but it always seems to take me awhile to finish any book .
Just got back from the library. Picked up the April and May copies of Bookpage ! I can almost hear my TBR list growing , LOL !
Just got back from 2nd and Charles bookstore ! Traded nine books for store credit and only paid $4 for these three books ! Love that place !
Started my next novel ! Loved her last one , Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Hope this is just as good .
Let's play quote game ! In the comments below write the first and last sentences in the last book you read ! I'll start ! My Name Is Venus Black : First - My name is Venus Black because my dad was Joseph Black, and because on March 4,1966 my very pregnant mother Inez just so happened to be watching a tv special about the space race when her water broke. Last- And sometimes he rocks.
This was a great novel ! The author chose a light-hearted approach to some serious issues .It is well written and could be easily read by adults snd teenagers. Highly recommend this and I'm looking forward to more from this author !
GOOD AFTERNOON EVERYONE !!! What happened to Spring ? LOL !
Tonight I intend to go through my TBR list on Goodreads and try to weed out the books I know I will never get or have already lost interest in reading. Currently the number is at over 500 , wish me luck ! LOL !
Just got my latest #earlyreviewer win in today's mail !
