I read this in four days. Those were a sad four days.
Adore this set of books. Thoughtful. Spiritual. Deeply moving. Every sentence full of meaning.

I know this was a good book... but I'm in such a slump lately. I'm pushing through and nothing is standing out to me! I'm in need of recommendations!
I actually finished this some weeks ago. I‘ve read 3 of the Gilead books - all loans from the library- and as you can see, I found a copy of Jack on my last visit. Honestly, I think I need to purchase the box set because I really kind of love Marilynne Robinson‘s writing, and each book comes with its own astonishing meditative gifts. #marilynnerobinson #gileadseries
I feel like this would be a good book to read when it's raining or snowing. It's such a quiet read. Like listening to a old country song or reading a poem. I kept forgetting I was reading it and would set it aside while I went back to reading an e-book or two before picking it back up.
I did like it. If I was in the right mood for it, I wouldn't of taken so long to get through it. The writing was excellent. 3.5 stars
The third book in the Gilead series, I really enjoy these quiet and thoughtful books. We are in the midst of another lockdown here in Melbourne so the slower pace kind of matches my mood. ⭐⭐⭐ Maybe I need something cheery next 🤔
Started this today. Hoping to read it and Jack before the end of the year. If I manage, I will have read all of Robinson's novels in the past year.
Also shopping for Xmas cards.

3rd of the series. Tells the story of elderly Rev Ames young new wife, how she grew up, the unlikely marriage. Told from Lila's POV, very different and good
Finishing up the trilogy ❤️
Marilynne Robinson‘s beautiful talk, and her personal, considered answer to the question I asked, was so moving it brought me to tears - it was as inspiring and expansive, thoughtful but full of joy, as I was hoping for from her. She talked about being a socialist in the world today, faith and society and the importance of human connection, and made me feel that the world was wonderful (hard task in today‘s climate).
First up at London literary festival - Marilynne Robinson! Really hope I manage to get my Lila signed afterwards. I wish I could see every single author here genuinely, I could drop hundreds on events like this if I had the money...
“It felt very good to have him walking beside her. Good like rest and quiet, like something you could live without but you needed anyway. Then you had to learn how to miss, and then you‘d never stop missing it.” ~Marilynne Robinson, Lila
I'm in love with this trilogy. I wish it'd never end and Ms. Robinson would write about Gilead forever. I love the harsh poetry of this novel, an ode to the forgotten and to the ones living at the magins of society. I didn't expect Lila's story to be so wonderfully painful to read at times. Topics such as empathy, forgiveness and how past defines us dominate this novel, but above all else, it's about love in all its endless shapes and forms.
I began reading it this morning and I can't seem to be able to put it down. This trilogy is absolutely amazing and this book might just cure my reading slump. 🤓
I have read about the ‘changes‘ Goodreads are going to make to their Giveaways page. As an non-US member I am worried this is the beginning of the end.
The Reading Room was never the same after it became Bookstr and I never go to that page anymore.
I have loved being a member of both these sites and they have introduced me to many amazing authors - Marilynne Robinson, Patrick Gale and Cecilia Ekback to name just a few. Thank goodness for Litsy.
Such beautiful, thoughtful writing. Robinson has written these Gilead characters each with their own distinct voice, and each successive book gives more insight into their lives. These are simple, character driven stories set in small-town Iowa in the 1940s and 50s, and religion is rather central, but I absolutely loved them all, despite being a non-religious small-town Iowan who assumed she wouldn‘t. 🤷🏻♀️
All the love! ❤️
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Out for my #audiowalk today, and the river is up and moving fast, and the birds are very enthusiastic about the whole situation. 🙃
So far, this is my favorite of the three books, and I loved Gilead and Home! ❤️
#Icantread without picturing what I read in my head. Like, my imagined movie based on the words I read. I have the most trouble picturing characters, but places are very vivid in my head (even though, I have never been to most of them). These four books had me imagining the most beautiful settings 👌

I forgot my book when I rushed out of the house for my doc appt with the idea to make it enough time to mail a package 📦at the post office. And since my doc is an hour away, I decided to load an audiobook. This one was top of queue. I so love Robinson. Gilead #3
From my TBR so I can't speak to themes, but the cover strikes me as autumnal. #fallreads #fallintobooks #autumnreads @RealLifeReading @Tiffy_Reads
Her writing is beautiful, but this book was not written for me. The structure jumps between different times in Lila's life, but this only adds to the meandering feeling. Only few stories work completely without chapter breaks and for me, this is not one of them.
#TBRtemptation post 6! #PhillyMeetUp edition! A @micheleinphilly Pick! The 3rd, and award-winning, installment in the Gilead series. Lila, a homeless wanderer, steps into an Iowa church. She'll become the minister's wife & try to make sense of her earlier confusing days. She led a hardscrabble childhood under the care of Doll, a drifter. How can she reconcile the vast differences in her previous & current circumstances? #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎
Lila is one of three books that takes place in Gilead and tells the story of John Ame's young wife. It's a lot darker than Gilead because Lila's life was difficult. She was hardened and has a hard time allowing herself to love and be loved. That is her great journey. Beautiful writing as I've come to expect from Robinson!
Just a few 1st Editions I picked up at Strand Books in NYC. Some go to the Top of the Rock, others seek out awesome #independantbookstores. Lila is my Fav Robinson from the Trilogy. These all help me fill a hole in my my shelf. I'm a big Non-Fiction reader. You may have noticed.
Gilead symbolizes a world for me I can hardly relate to, but I loved to read about it. All this gentleness and understanding: it shows so much optimism. It offers a home to wild, drifting Lila. She can be herself there and she is also able to open herself to Christianity, with all the existential questions she has. John Ames is the best person she could meet. I think we all can use a John Ames in our lives sometimes. #manbooker Picture: Portugal
#AprilBookShowers Day 22 - Earth Tone Covers
It looks like Marilynne Robinson (or, at least, her cover designers) are fans of earth tones
All the shades of green! 💚 today has been the first warm, Spring day in Denmark, so today's prompt is perfect!
#greencovers #marchintoreading
We don't have any presidents in Denmark, and to be honest, I am not really that interested in reading biographies of American presidents. But I love to read about what other people are reading, and President Obama's reading list is right up my alley! I found an article where he recommend different books and authors, and I found some of them on my shelves, so I thought I would post them for #presidentialreads 📚

Browsing the shelves of the second-hand bookstore this morning just in time for day 25 of #photoadaynov16 : #latestbookishbuys ! 😍📚 I wasn't thinking about buying anything but..who am I kidding?!
I am #thankfulfor my wonderful bf and family and friends. For all the great recommendations I have gotten from Litzy. For the amazing authors that keep writing books for us. I am just thankful ❤️ (I was trying to spræl out "thankful" with books, which worked more or less ??)
Happy Thanksgiving to anyone celebrating!

"That sound of settling into the sheets and the covers has to be one of the best things in the world. Sleep is a mercy. You can feel it coming on, like being swept up in something."
I don't have very many books that talk about food to make me hungry, but I have several books that make me hungry for words and this is one of my favorites. LILA made me want to consume the words off the page. #somethingforsept #booksthatmademehungry
Bought this for a reading retreat. I'm nervous about this one because her other two didn't excite me and while I finished them, they were like very slow walks in the park when I prefer to jog. Tell me your thoughts.
Holy cow, geez. I'm really lost here on what to say. This book like any Good book will break your ❤️ and then put it back together. I think what is being examined here is the questioning of faith. How can someone believe and trust in God when their childhood was full of pain - pain inflicted by adults (people you should be able to trust). This is the book I needed at this point on my life. Check out my favorite quote below.
A good weekend to break through my reading slump. Getting started with Lila, kitties cuddles and coffee. #biblioweekend
My faith tells me that God shared poverty, suffering, and death with human beings, which can only mean that such things are full of dignity and meaning, even though to believe this makes a great demand on one's faith... (Robinson makes my brain hurt in the best possible way).
I feel like this book is meant to be read with yoga pants on and socks. I loved Housekeeping so much, so I'm giving this one a shot and I really really like it so far. I like the way Robinson create female characters 💕💜❤️.
This book is shucking oysters for supper and finding a warm, glowing pearl. It's striking up a conversation at a cocktail party and finding that you have met a kindred spirit. It is so much, so unspeakably and untellably much that it may be the finest novel I've ever read. Every sentence requires attention, and in exchange for that attention you are given a view of existence that is crystalline, raw, honest, painful and joyous.
Reading snacks:
Iced coffee, Popsicle, iced coffee, Popsicle, iced coffee, Popsicle. May have some iced tea or a frozen coconut milk thingie on a stick for variety.
Where I'm starting out this morning, Windows open to let some air in before we have to close everything up and crank the ac.
My pile is small but rich. My mother loved these books, and really wanted me to read them so we could talk about them. I made a half-assed attempt at "Gilead" and said it was "boring." It's too late to discuss them with her, but maybe not. I still talk to her all the time.
