so-soNaked Lunch is very successful at inserting you into a paranoid, dysfunctional, disorientating and disturbing world of addiction whilst critiquing the society which enables it. However, it is a tough and brutal book to read in more ways than one. 6/10
panI should have known by now I don‘t like books about drugs. This one adds a lot of bodily fluids and genitals and, I give you that @TrishB , some wonderful sentences. Poetry maybe. Raw poetry. I can see why Burroughs was an inspiration to Numan and so many others back in the days but to me it was a struggle to finish. #1001books
bailedI'm all for experimental, so I was eager to read this. I had some difficulty with the style at first, but got into the rhythm quickly. I heard over and over it isn't meant to be read in order so I flipped through. But I just can't read this book. I understand why some things make no sense because drugs, but it's needlessly disturbing, like he put things in there just for shock value; I hate when people do that.
Maybe I will revisit some day.
panI heard so many interesting remarks about this book. So maybe for some this is different in a good way. This wasnt a novel or even a story. It's more the random thoughts of a junkie. For me, it was super confusing, and exhausting to read.

1. I find William S. Burroughs completely unreadable. I‘ve tried two of his books and just can‘t.

I read "Junky" by William S. Burroughs last year and enjoyed it, this one seems even more crazy!
Fun that Jack Keurac suggested the title "The title means exactly what the words say: naked lunch, a frozen moment when everyone sees what is on the end of every fork."

This makes sense, considering the book does not. I suggest reading the last 80-something pages, before you try the first 200; they explain his, uh, thought processes or lack thereof. It‘s not necessarily a bad book, especially when you understand the backstory. Just don‘t expect it to flow with much logic.

panFinished on my flight home from Alabama and I honestly have no idea what I just read. It was mostly just a jumble of words that sometimes made sense but mostly made absolutely no sense whatsoever. I 100% understand why it was a banned book, and if I believed in book censorship I would say it probably should still be banned. I have been made more stupid by reading this book and can't believe I actually allowed myself to finish it. #NakedLunch
I tried for a few weeks with this one and usually I like reading books that don't have an obvious plot but this is a whole other level of confusing! I wanted to like it and I might give it another go at some point but for now it's #notforme #jubilantjuly

Not sure what I'd think of it now.
This is a pretty crazy book but once you get to this chapter, the crazy just goes to a whole new level.

Day 15: This has to be the weirdest book I've ever read. Still not sure what it was about, but I think it was written from the perspective of someone on an acid trip. My "stolen" haul. These were my big brother's, but are now mine because he left them in our parent's basement for a few years. I decided they needed a new home and so they now have one.
Like new shoes make a small child run faster, I'm sure my new banned books mug will help me write better. It lists banned books when hot and redacts some of the text when cold. Plus my new banned books matches, for scale.
