I thought this was a great memoir on audio.
I thought this was a great memoir on audio.
I couldn‘t stop listening to it. Although her childhood was wayyyy different from mine I felt like I was there. I visualized everything she described. I caught myself laughing out loud at times. Very good memoir.

I love all three of these books and all 4 of the authors!
In a total audiobook funk now after listening to this. What a remarkable story. Rabbit grew up in the hood in Atlanta with an alcoholic mother. There were very few people that took the time to help Rabbit and her siblings. She ended up with two children by the age of 15, selling dope on the streets to survive. This is one of those books everyone should read, to gain perspective.
It's been a bit since I've posted, but I have an audiobook finish! I really loved listening to Ms. Pat's story, narrated by the author. The things that happened to her growing up in Atlanta, and what she had to do to survive are tough to hear, but she somehow tells the story with humor. 4/5 ⭐. I really liked this one.
Couldn‘t stop listening! I highly recommend.
Throughly enjoyed this memoir by comedian Patricia Williams. Good in audiobook form. I‘ll definitely be finding her interview with Marc Maron.
This book is soo good! I just feel terrible that this was her real life!
I wish I could put this in the hands of every reader. This absolutely heartbreaking and at the same time inspiring memoir has had a significant impact on me. This will be one that stays with me forever. A must read!
Tomorrow, @unabridgedpod will release our episode about Tiffany Haddish‘s The Last Black Unicorn. I picked up Ms. Pat‘s memoir Rabbit after seeing her stand-up show, and it seemed like the perfect pairing for Haddish‘s memoir. Tune in tomorrow for Unabridged‘s 32nd episode . . . and to find out why I paired the rabbit and the unicorn (and the pairings my co-hosts chose!).
This book ripped my damned heart out. No one deserves the upbringing Ms. Pat had. It didn‘t set her up for a good life. It was endearing to listen to her speak so candidly. It takes so much courage to put yourself out there; the good and the bad. She‘s been through some shit, then some more shit, then even more. You get the idea. But you see where she is now. She has a big heart and you can‘t help but love her.
Top is the original hard cover of Rabbit, featuring an adorable young Ms. Pat.
Bottom is the new paperback of Rabbit, featuring a "hooker" earring (the word is in quotation because it's the word Ms. Pat uses). Also the picture features Papaya Bunny bc I took it for the bookstore's Instagram.
Which cover do you prefer? I love the top one, but the bottom is growing on me.

Doing a reread before hosting book club on Wednesday.
Started this memoir (recommended by #DavidSedaris) this afternoon. It‘s so good, but breaking my heart. @Booksnchill

Was with @britt_brooke at #Parnassus Books for the David Sedaris reading and he highly recommended the tagged audiobook. That is my public service announcement for this evening littens!

1. The Knife of Never Letting Go depressed me and gave me nightmares, so even though I got pretty far, I just quit.
2. Pretty much anything I can eat one handed!
3. Rabbit by Patricia Williams. She is funny as hell, but she overcame some crazy awful shiz to get to where she is now (she does comedy under the name Ms. Pat).
4. You, if you want!
I hadn't a clue who Ms Pat was before I borrowed this audiobook (turns out she's a comedian) but there was something compelling about the way she unflinchingly tells her life story - teenaged pregnancy, life in the ghetto, drug dealing, an abusive relationship. Despite all this, she doesn't give excuses, she doesn't lay blame, and instead appreciates those who have shown her the way, to reach further, to dream.
The first grader gets out of school in about 10 minutes. Meanwhile it's a rainy day so I'm sitting in the car for a bit longer listening to this audiobook before I have to go pick him up.
What a life story! It was honest, funny and heartbreaking all at the same time. #audiobook #nonfiction
Wow! What a life story. I couldn't stop listening. Heart-breaking and informative. I have started looking up Ms. Pat's stand-up shows and podcast interviews. I'm a new fan!
I went through so many emotions while listening to this. It's heartbreaking, frustrating, funny, and amazing. Not for the faint of heart, Ms. Pat's story of extreme poverty is sure to stick with you.

After seeing Ms. Pat‘s live comedy and laughing until tears, I scrambled to get my hands on her book. Because her comedy is memoir-like, I expected the book to be funny. It is not. Not at all. This was jarring at first. Once I acclimated, I loved it. Especially as it reaches the end, her thoughts on her role in public and herself and life are fascinating and enlightened. I liked this very, very much. She is incredible. And so is her husband.
I‘m glad I read this, but so disappointed that we live in a country that has so little regard for or understanding of those who live in such extreme poverty.
When you were in school, did you feel impatient while listening to kids real aloud who were slower readers? You'll need to speed this one WAY up. I love a good underdog story though and this one delivers in that way. #audiobooks
Great autobiography read by the author. She unflinchingly recounts her struggles growing up poor in Georgia - pregnant at 13, alcoholic mother, abused by her boyfriend, never finishing high school, etc. It‘s amazing the challenges people in different life situations can face. She doesn‘t try to excuse any of her bad or illegal behavior, instead she recognizes the people who helped her to be better and find a better way.
Started this audiobook today. I hadn‘t heard of her before but saw this book on a few best-of lists. I found this on Hoopla and I think listening to her read it herself is the way to go on this one.
Wow! It was awesome! Such a real story, such courage in vulnerability, such comedy in a tragic situation. I loved the dark sarcasm. It was a good read and story of a young African American‘s girl story of starting from the gutter and making her way in this world. #NoExcuses!!
5⭐️ Wow. I read books to learn about perspectives and experiences other than my own. Ms. Pat and I couldn‘t have had more different lives. She grew up in the hood, was pregnant by 13, and dealing crack soon after. But she eventually got a GED and a factory job then found her voice as a comedian. Through the whole book you can hear her heart and ferocity. I can‘t recommend this more highly. The #audiobook is awesome!
Totally enjoying this #audiobook on my new Amazon Echo Dot! I was joking with my dad that I was getting myself the presents a spouse would get for me. I got it during the $20 off time, so I don‘t feel as guilty.
This audiobook was a great find during the #Audible sale. Such a raw, real memoir. Amazing!

Rabbit by the amazing Ms. Pat has humor, heartbreak, tragedy and triumph. She is just cool as hell.

I picked this based on a blurb I read somewhere, not realizing it was Ms. Pat from the Bob and Tom Show until I started it. I found it to be a quick and fascinating read.
Perk #108 of my job at @FountainBookstore - I'm at a comedy club tonight and Sunday selling books for comedian and badass Ms. Pat! #AuthorSigning #indiebookstore #lovemyjob
On the way to the after hours book drop at the library. Beautiful, breezy warm night. This is one of the most heartbreaking books I've read. Rabbit seems to have her life together now, but what a horrible childhood. She credits the "angels" in her life for steering her in a positive and productive direction.
I just finished this book and I loved it! Patricia Williams tells her life story with humor and stark honesty. This memoir doesn't pack any punches- Pat discusses her abuse by a family friend, getting pregnant at 13, selling drugs to make money for her and her kids, and eventually getting out of the business and finding her voice as a stand up comedian. She never stopped dreaming and never gave up.

Started listening this morning. Ms. Pat is coming to RVA for a few stand up routines and we get to sell books at her show. Less than half an hour in and I've already teared up and laughed hard enough to make driving a questionable activity. #audiobooks #librofm #CurrentlyReading #bookclub #audiobooks #LittensDressedInBlood (in case you need a break from fictional horror, although her childhood is no Leave it to Beaver).
I can't wait to work with this author when she visits the store later this month. Rabbit is a chilling and funny autobiography of a woman who grew up with an alcoholic mother, had two children by 15, a full time drug dealing career by the same time, was in a string of abusive relationships, raised an extremely large family with a loving partner (eventually), and now shares her stories from a stand up stage.
So happy to have Ms. Pat booked at the store for a signing on Friday, 10/6 at 12:30pm. Her story is amazing!
