Red Queen | Victoria Aveyard

Finishing up with the Red Queen tonight puts me at 7 books read in May, with two put back on my TBR list for another time. Overall, I pretty happy with my reads this month and have learned that I do really enjoy memoirs, so super thankful to #overbookedclub for the #monthofmemoirs. For my favorite book this month, I would definitely have to say it was The Ocean At The End Of The Lane by Niel Gaiman, but Red Queen was a close second.

megnews I‘ve only been reading memoirs for a few years. But I really like them. I don‘t enjoy autobiographies. Memoirs feel more personal and a bit more like a conversation to me. 5y

This collection of stories are really engaging & amusing. I enjoyed reading about her family & relatives, their lives in Iran, & how they adjusted to different culture when the family moved to California in 1972. Also great insight into the Iranian culture. I smiled, tittered, so many times, & even laughed out once or twice. There were a few serious moments but overall Firoozeh kept things light & entertaining.

This quote is a home run.

As an adult, worries are greater and it takes a more powerful page to be able to banish them for the duration. Perhaps you appreciate it all the more when it comes, but I miss the days of effortless immersion, and the glorious certainty of pleasure.

#MonthofMemoirs @megnews @sblbooks I especially felt it in March when my world was turned on end.

megnews This resonated deeply with me too. 5y

Naturalist Montgomery has a life-long love for animals. Through the years & her expansive work that brought her to all over the world, she has encountered animals of all kinds. They changed her life in many ways. She shows us how she learnt a great deal about life from animals, find loveliness in all kinds, & how she‘s still learning to be a good creature. Lovely book with charming illustrations.

Because of her fear of dying young just like her father, Jennifer was determined to live each day to her fullest & create wonderful, lasting memories with her daughter. This is a warm hearted account of their travels to Paris, Italy, Spain, & Amsterdam over 4 trips, filled with adventures & misadventures. There‘re also flashbacks on her childhood & her relationship with her father. 🔽

Cinfhen Sounds really good/ is it sad?? 5y
erzascarletbookgasm @Cinfhen Not really, just sad memories when she thought of her childhood days with her father. There‘s humour and it‘ll make you want to travel to those cities with your daughter! 5y

Hey, #OverBookedClub #MonthofMemoirs friends and all others. James McBride‘s memoir tribute to his mom is a #kindledeal today. I must have read this pre-2008 when I started using Goodreads, but I still think of and recommend it often. Check it out.

sblbooks I couldn't pull it up on litsy, I keep having trouble with their book profiles. Is anyone anyone else having the same problem? 5y
megnews @sblbooks I‘m not having that problem but it seems slow pulling up my notifications today. 5y

I ❤️ Lucy Knisley. Her #graphicmemoirs are so realistic. Every mom can commiserate as Go to Sleep (I Miss You) accurately portrays the sleepless foggy days, adventures in breastfeeding, being enamored with your baby, and all the other little experiences of motherhood. I recommended this to my daughter whose baby recently turned 1. Would be a nice gift for any new mom.

⚀ Irene Pollock from the 44 Scotland St Series - truly annoying and overbearing mother. The titles where she was absent, were certainly more enjoyable! 😁😁
