This was an eye opening and adventurous ride, where non fiction reads like fiction! 💯

I mean I am just flabbergasted. This is horrendously racist. It was a Pulitzer finalists and has over 4⭐on good reads, by chapter 4 I had to quit or I was going to throw it across the room. The authors constant use of the words savages and hostiles to refer to the Native people even 12 years ago should have been stopped by the editor. I finally quit when he made cannibalism sound normal to tribes with no proof 👇👇👇
An eye-opening history of the American West. After reading this work, you will gain a good understanding in how the mighty Comanche were defeated and the times they lived in.
Where to begin? This book is heavily researched and well written and chronicles a compelling time of US history in great detail. I can see why it won a Pulitzer prize, but it is also obvious that it was written in 2010. There are dozens of passages that were extremely insensitive & hard to get through; almost DNFed multiple times. Though the story kept me going and I‘m glad I finished it but I will stick to #ownvoices histories for awhile.
I have a week off from classes and I am so excited about all of the reading I‘m going to get done. Tonight I‘m back into Empire of the Summer Moon, and though I‘m finding it very interesting, for a Pulitzer finalist I expected it to be a little more sensitive when talking about indigenous peoples.
Yes, my Christmas tree is lopsided 😂 I love natural trees though because they‘re all unique🎄🤍
Thank you!! @iread2much I love the card and the wax seal! Im excited about the books! Thank you again! #thankfulforbooksswap
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Very interesting history of Quanah Parker, the many tribes and bands, and life during this time period. I listened to this book and it felt like I was taking an intense Native American history course. I liked that since I grew up and live in the areas mentioned in the book, I could easily visualize the trek of the Comanches and other tribes. (Cont‘d in comments)
Am loving this book at the moment. A recommendation from none other than Rob Lowe on Twitter. The story is engaging and fascinating. It‘s a slower read than normal for me due to the range of facts to take in
This book took me a while but I still enjoyed it. I went to school for a while in Quanah, TX so we were taught the history of Quanah Parker and the Comanche People. (The picture and other items are Navaho.)
#Riotgrams #day9 #NativeOrIndigenousReads While this isn't written by an indigenous author,it is an enthralling read about the rise & fall of the Comanches & about Quanah Parker, the last chief of the tribe.Quanah was the son of a full blood Comanche warrior & Cynthia Ann Parker,a white woman who was stolen from her family at the age of 9 & grew up in the tribe.Quanah was an interesting figure, a fierce fighter who ended up living on a reservation.

This is an history of the Comanche l haven't read yet. I've read a lot of Native American history, especially a couple of years ago. Sometimes l had to stop to get some breath.
And because l love myself, now l'm reading about WWI and fascism 😧
Had a bunch of appointments and errands to run today and was able to stop by the bookstore in between. Found some books on my #tbr that were on sale and a journal I didn't really need but elephants. 🐘

Got my work cut out for me today with pounds of cherries to pit & freeze. Lucky I've got a compelling audiobook on deck!
These are both lurking unread (might go as far as forgotten actually) on my Kindle. Until I went hunting for #aseasoninthetitle I'd no idea they'd ever been on my tbr. Do they need bumping up the list?

Starting to listen to something very different from what I have been. I love S.C. Gwynne.
Re: Comanche nicknames - I *want* to be a "Coyote Vagina," but deep down inside, I know I'm more of a "Always Sitting Down in a Bad Place." How bout you?
Once again I have proven that it is impossible for me to just window shop on a book site. They will end up finding my body crushed underneath a mountain of tbr books in my library, they'll need sniffer dogs to find me under the piles and piles of amazing books. This is it for October, I need to show some restraint... wait. Did someone say free shipping??!😂😂😂 #deathtonobooktober #mightaswellfaceitimaddictedtobooks
I love random bookmarks. I got this one for free from our public library. I think it goes well with my book for history class....📚📚📚#booktober #bookmarks
Picked this up in a cute little bookstore while visiting my sister in Ohio. Love the garden leading up to the main entrance!
Been there quite a few times.....most of the time, I. Just. Don't. Care.🤓📚😂
I love reading on campus. It's absolutely beautiful here, even though it'll get up to 95 degrees today. This Southern heat will get ya....#septphotochallenge #readingoutside ☀️🌳🌷
Well researched book. A little dry in some spots but very enjoyable, especially if you're interested in Native American history.
I went back through some 'already read' lists today and this one stuck out for #recommendsday. Fantastic audio and an engaging narrative.
Gretchen: "I'm interested in Native American history and knowing more about specific tribes. They have such respect for nature, traditions and craftsmanship - it's fascinating."
Well written and will change the way you understand the war between the settlers and the first people of Texas. I don't read westerns, but I love history and this was a great way to gain a better understanding of the Wild Wild West.
