so-so🎧 Summary hooked me. I can‘t win.
Poor writing. Premise is great but the execution is weak.
Simon is a bit annoying.
So it‘s about Simon & Kat. Kat gets a step dad & ends their friendship without a word. He moves away & returns later to a girl won‘t even talk to him.
Other World is a VR game that‘s ultimately used in an experimental medical way.
Kat‘s involved in an accident & wakes up in a Locked-In state. Enter the VR experiment.

so-soWell, this was an interesting concept, but not the greatest execution. The MC, Simon, really got on my nerves, I actually wish the book had been written from Kat‘s POV. I don‘t think I will be reading the other books in the series.

Apparently, the universe doesn‘t like our family this week. Poor kiddo‘s bus never showed up at school this afternoon, so I drove in to Charlotte at 6 during rush hour traffic to pick up a car load of bus riders to help bring them home.
So grateful to Aaron‘s office who sent over dinner as a get well gift while he is recovering. It was a life saver tonight! I‘m still wired and wide awake so hoping to finish this book tonight.
This is the response to the MC asking a doctor, who had just come into the room, if his friend will recover.

so-soFor me the audiobook was definitely the way to go. The author read it. Sure I kept picturing Marshall reading to me but I was completely ok with that.

pickDon‘t know how I found this book but it‘s a good one. May be a better story than Ready Player One! Players are either wearing headsets and playing the game or by wearing a disk you are really in the game to stay and may really have a game ending reality. Maybe we on Earth are in that game??🤭😳🤔👽
pickEven though this one brings a familiar theme of blending virtual worlds with the real world, the characters and a few fresh twists make it a fun read. I enjoyed the main character, Simon, and his real-world motivation for diving into Other world, and I‘m really curious to see where it goes with book 2 this October. Overall a solid entry into the real world/online world genre that‘s oh-so popular right now.
pickAnother one finished, doing quite well at the moment 😁😁 I give this one a 3.5 out of 5, I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was as I only picked it up to see how Jason Segel was as an author and he didn't disappoint however I liked it, didn't love it and I had a couple of issues with it, it got boring at certain parts, big reveals were disappointing and some random moments were written so dramatically it just left me a little baffled.
pickI really enjoyed this. I loved the MC, Simon. His snarky comments and sarcasm made me laugh. The world building was really cool but my favorite part was Simon and Kat‘s friendship. Friends since they were little, Simon says about Kat: “Love is too small a word for what I feel”. I‘ll be checking out the next book.

pickI give this book 4 out of 5 stars. My favorite character is Kat because she is fearless and brave. Otherworld is also filled with endless plot twist that you never see coming. This book, however, was missing something that could have made the book better. I have been thinking about this for a few days and I am still not sure what is was missing. I would recommend this book to any Tron, gaming, or augmented reality fan.
so-soI can‘t help but wonder if I would have enjoyed this more if I hadn‘t just read Want and The Final Six, or if Ready Player One wasn‘t just about be released in theatres this weekend; this is not a bad book, but I couldn‘t help comparing this to those books or even Warcross.
so-soI loved Simon, the MC, & his sarcasm had me rolling throughout! Tho I felt the secondary characters were lacking substantially in depth & development. I wanted to know so much more about Carole, Gorog, & more. Overall a so-so for me, tho I can see how others may love it! Part2 comes out this fall, but my journey ends here.
Huge similarity to HBOs West World (disclaimer: I DNF that tv series either lol)

I‘ve heard it ends abruptly. I hope it at least answers some questions. This story feels like a mash up of so many different things. World of Warcraft, The Matrix, etc. I‘m not entirely sure how I feel about it.
so-soI'm a huge fan of Jason Segel and swayed our book club to pick this because it was my birthday month and it just came out. It inspired me to finally get around to Ready Player One, which I'm reading now! I had a tough time getting started, and my friend said the audiobook, narrated by Segel, was a blast. I'm sure this is setting up a series, and I might try the audiobook next time.
pickThis is a YA book which takes place, partly, inside a virtual reality video game. My fourteen year old really enjoyed it and gives it thumbs up. I also enjoyed it. That being said, it is a YA book and probably has more appeal for a 14 year old boy than his 44 year old mom.

panI had such high hopes for this book! I love sci-fi, anf the idea of a virtual reality game where people were stuck in isn't new, but a good reliable plot if done right. Instead, it is weighed down by an unlikable main character and an uninteresting setting for a virtual reality. Not a fan.

pickI wasn‘t sure if I was going to like this book (written in part by the actor Jason Segal), but I ended up really enjoying it. It has a Hunger Games feel in places, if Hunger Games had been a video game. There are some smart lines (some of them pretty funny) and it ends up being a pretty quick read.

pickI really looked forward to this ya dystopia. It was one of those ones where the future and problem doesn‘t seem so far removed from the world we live in now. Quick paced and fun.
pickI liked this! It's kind of the middle ground between Ready Player One and Warcross.
Theres mystery after mystery all kinda wrapped up into one big thing that I didn't realize was all connected until the reveal.
I do wish the main character doing the saving wasn't a man saving the girl he loved (I mean...that's been done to death) but I did appreciate the female sidekick helpers.
I'll definitely pick up the sequel

pickOkay, I was very surprised when I turned this book over and noticed a very familiar face! I liked Jason Segel as a screenwriter, so I had high hopes for this one. This is book one of a planned trilogy, and it sets the story up nicely. I didn't fully connect with some of the characters, but the story is set within the world of Virtual Reality - so maybe that makes sense! Overall, fun read and excited to see where it goes!

The team that put out a successful middle school series Nightmares, is back for another go. If I can not see Marshall on How I Met Your Mother Mother anymore, at least I can still read his words. #coverlove
