Roses of May
Roses of May | Dot Hutchison
Four months after the explosion at the Garden, a place where young women known as the Butterflies were kept captive, FBI agents Brandon Eddison, Victor Hanoverian, and Mercedes Ramirez are still entrenched in the aftermath, helping survivors in the process of adjusting to life on the outside. With winter coming to an end, the Butterflies have longer, warmer days of healing ahead. But for the agents, the impending thaw means one gruesome thing: a chilling guarantee that somewhere in the country, another young woman will turn up dead in a church with her throat slit and her body surrounded by flowers. Priya Sravastis sister fell victim to the killer years ago. Now she and her mother move every few months, hoping for a new beginning. But when she ends up in the madmans crosshairs, the hunt takes on new urgency. Only with Priyas help can the killer be foundbut will her desperate hope for closure compel her to put her very life on the line?

Another fantastic book from this author. Let me start off by saying that although this is the second book in The Collectors series, this I not a follow on from The Butterfly Garden. We have a serial killer who kills girls every year in a church, he has a type that he collects and one of his previous victims sister is in his cross hairs. A great book, not so many twist and turns like the first but it still had me on tender hooks throughout.

I‘ve finally arrived in my (very cramped!) London hotel room after a looong day and I couldn‘t fit my book into my hand luggage 😫 Luckily, I have this little number to start on my Kindle. The first in this series (The Butterfly Garden) is very dark and fairly ridiculous at points, but I still enjoyed it. Looking forward to getting stuck into this 😊

The sequel to The Butterfly Garden. It has a decent mystery plot and I appreciated the updates from the last story that were written in. I‘m starting to enjoy the agents and their passion for the victims. Without giving too much away, I thought the main character‘s plan at the end lacked planning and was, hate to say it, pretty ignorant. I thought she had more up her sleeve than she actually did. Overall 3 1/2 ⭐️ #mystery #thriller #junereads

It breaks my heart to say it, but this book just didn't work for me. Hutchison's 1st book in the series, The Butterfly Garden, was phenomenal, but the followup simply falls flat. It's boring at times and the relationship between the main character, Priya, a teenager, and one of the inspectors is supposed to be warm and friendly, but just comes across as sort of creepy. Although I didnt hate it, I wouldn't recommend it either.

Not my usual genre, but I love these books. Well-written and I love the characters. No fainting flowers here, just ladies with sharp edges. I didn't like this one as much as the first until near the end. I'm hoping the next one is excellent.

Just finished. I really, really liked this. Going into it, I thought it was going to continue where The Butterfly Garden left off. I was slightly disappointed it didn‘t, but I quickly fell right into this. Could have been a standalone, in my opinion, but I like how it tied in characters from the first book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This sequel isn‘t quite as unique as the first book- but it‘s still an engaging backdrop for #audiocoloring! There are some follow-ups on the main characters from the Garden, but the focus here is a serial killer who each spring, kills a young woman and leaves flowers with her corpse. The plot is predictable but I still enjoyed listening!

Being the 2nd book in a series, I thought the two books would be more connected. This book almost could be a standalone. Overall I did enjoy the story but thought The Butterfly Garden was better (more screwed up).

I enjoyed this book very much (that powerful first sentence about paperwork? Hellooooo). It has a lot of great complex characters: Priya and her mother, for instance, who are both very strong and vulnerable, and likable in a way Inara (the main female character in the first book) just was not. But I still liked The Butterfly Garden better, perhaps because it was more f**ed-up 😁

I am SO MAD at this book right now. I'm mad that I spent more than a week trying to get through this. The Butterfly Garden (1st book in series) was great compared to this. 0 thrill. 0 suspense. The story made 0 sense. Just no. See my spoiler comments if you have read this/don't mind being spoiled. I will NOT be reading the 3rd book. The writing and characters both felt weak.

I realized this was a 1⭐ when I was at 70% and nothing had happened.

ephemeralwaltz What kind of mother is okay will Priya's plan to try to KILL the serial kill?? After EVERYTHING that has happened, how do you not call the FBI agents instead of going to work and letting your underage daughter try to lure the killer to her?!?! Like what? I knew I was going to rate this 1⭐ when the story took that turn. I can't get over it. 6y
ephemeralwaltz Also, why is Priya in such close contact with the FBI agents? After so many murders, why does she seem to get such special treatment from them?? And why is she so close to Eddison? I'm trying to see him as a father figure but something is way off.. 6y
ephemeralwaltz Everything just made 0 sense to me. And I get that this is supposed to be a series but it was soooo disconnected from the Butterflies that putting them in contact with Priya just felt forced. 6y

The Roses of May meets Snowflakes of February. 🤣😂. We are currently in the middle of a clipper that looks like a blizzard. I can‘t say this one isn‘t as good as the first it‘s just different. You get to reunite with Vic and Eddison along with Bliss and Inara. Definitely a worthwhile read.

A lot of the complaints I‘ve heard about this book were actually things I liked about it. A new case but a lot of connections to the previous in the trilogy. I liked hearing about how the Butterflies of ‘The Butterfly Garden‘ were doing as a background story in this one. So far the author is really coming up with some twisted crimes to write about! What will the 3rd bring?!

My heart was beating so fast in so many parts of this story, especially in the second half. SUSPENSE!

The first book focused heavily on the crimes and victims; this one seemed to focus on the investigation and catching the bad guy before he/she acted again. We actually get the killer's POV --> chilling! This is a companion but the 'butterflies' have a large presence. I loved these differences, the new characters, and that it wasn't quite as dark.

I've seen mixed reviews of this one as the follow-up to The Butterfly Garden --> I'm about halfway thru it and pretty captivated right now. It's different than the previous book: more investigative and focuses on different characters. A bit less creepy and dark.

When I'm not reading this, I want to be. I want to know who is doing all the bad things. #currentlyreading

This book made me realize that I read books the way I watch TV/ movies. By that I mean I yell at the protagonist or character when they do something so obviously stupid, or something bad is about to happen to try and warn them. It had a little suspense and parts where I was yelling out loud. It fell a little short for me in that I wanted it to be about the Gardner and what happened next. Not just some lose tie-ins. Bring in the 3rd book!
