The first book in the Jack Reacher series and the inspiration for the first episode of the popular television show. I read it for that reason. Decent pulp fiction.
After watching the 1st season of Reacher I was curious about this well-known series. The first book is a great thriller & the show did a very good job with the material. Good plot, interesting characters, clues and twists all made sense. Really that‘s all I‘d ask from a book like this. A great read to curl up with on a frigid day. I don‘t think I‘ll read the next book in the series, but I‘ll watch the new season of the show.
Not my usual genre but really well done! I just bought Die Trying!!!
I know this is a paper back edition, but it did have 524 pages. So it's almost a chunkster #ChunskterChallenge2023 @Amiable
Finished this one as a goal for #MagnificentMayReathathon @Andrew65. I got another bingo spot on #ISpyBingoApril @Clwojick @TheAromaofBooks and its the first of the series #SeriesLove23 @TheSpineView This is the first time I read this author and I really like his style of describing fight scenes.
Really good! Very suspenseful and surprisingly poignant. My version also had a wonderful forward by the author talking about how he got started writing the series, including the inspiration for the name Jack Reacher, which was funny and interesting.
Sneaking in some quiet reading time on the rooftop garden patio on my hotel. Such a lovely place to read such a violent book. Liking this better than the TV show so far, not that the show isn't good, but the book gives a lot more insight that can't be shown on TV.

Well, never thought I would have shingles at the age of 39, but here I am. Stress is a funny thing, it can bring out the worst in you.
On the plus side, I can take tmrw off work to rest, so I'm going to focus on my reading and maybe do some more audiocrafting.
The moral of the story, take time for yourself and don't let stress consume you.
I don‘t read this genre very often. I‘m glad I read this book. I plan to watch the series on Amazon Prime next. Jack Reacher is a fascinating character, who it seems can‘t be stopped. I‘d like to continue on with this series to see where it takes him. It deems that his character is the only content that will go from book to book. If you liked fast paced and action packed, this book is for you.
I‘ve never read a Jack Reacher book and I don‘t think I‘m about to start - but I did enjoy watching all 8(ish) hours of the tv show… I was just going to watch the first episode and then go about my Saturday but I watched it all - no regrets, I had popcorn and several pots of peppermint tea.
A fun read with plenty of entertaining twists. Reacher made me roll my eyes a few times, but I didn‘t mind. I listened to the audiobook for at least 1/2 of this book, on my commutes. The audio is okay, narrated by Dick Hill. The narrator didn‘t do Southern accents well and in the high action parts near the end, he reminded me of a horse race announcer with his speed and intensity 😂 I‘ll read/listen further though. A nice break from heavier reads.
I‘m having a lot of fun with this one! #currentlyreading
I wonder if the new Reacher series follows just the first book or the first few books—does anyone know?
I used to love reading Lee Child‘s Jack Reacher books. It‘s a series now on prime! Who else is watching this?

Solid 4 🌟 for me. This had a few twists and turns I wasn't expecting. The pace was quick and driving. The short sentence structure actually enhanced the Reacher character in my opinion. I did figure out one of the major players quickly but not what they were up to. Reacher is a solid character. This is a fun, take a break from the heavier reading, book. I'll be sprinkling more of these in my reading.
The votes are in. @Susanita and @RaeLovesToRead unanimously voted for me to read this. Thank you ladies. My list of who to blame if I don't like it or who cost me money to get more of the books if I do consists of you two!!😁😁😁 Thanks for playing!
On vacay this week. Had to hit up a familiar thrift store where we typically get good books. Have I ever read a Lee Child? No. At 50 cents each, I've just become a Lee Child fan.😁😁 #bookhaul #thriftstorebookhaul #thrifty #everexpandingTBR
My first Reacher book. Good story about a corrupt town bought off by steady streams of cash. Reacher fans will like the story and not be surprised (spoiler alert) that Reacher walks away from his love interest.
Finished in 7 hours. Suspense filled and effectively mysterious.
“They were dead. I had seen a lot of dead people, and these two were as dead as any of them.”
Nope. I suspect I shouldn‘t have picked Lee Child‘s first effort to give him a try.
Another series that I had never read nor seen the movies, but I've been meaning to give it a go ever since Karin Slaughter did a crossover novella with Will Trent. I won't lie, my first impression was something like "why are these sentences so short and where are the commas?" but before I knew it, BOOM. I was hooked. Fast paced. Well plotted. Good thrills. I'm looking forward to the next one!
#bloodyscotland and lastly for this year Val McDermid and Lee Child. Hopefully be back in real life in Stirling next year.
#20Series20days #Top20Series day 5 Jack Reacher is ex military, he seems unable to walk away from difficult situations especially, if righting a wrong .Killing Floor is the 1st , the 4th ,Running Blind is called The Visitor in the UK.There are 26 books , I‘ve read the first 5.
I‘m not a fan of Tom Cruise, he played Reacher in the film.No offense meant ,I just pictured Reacher as a burly version of the author , Lee Child!😃
So.many.periods. Such short sentences! Tell me it gets better because I‘m so irritated and I‘m only 10 pages in!
The preview chapter means I'm done with the book!
A fine, if uncomplicated, crime novel where the hero is ultra-competent. Everything fits together. No false leads. Just lots and lots of plot.
First time I've ever thought to look up "lugubrious". I thought it meant some sort of jolly.
Plot twist in last night's reading! Dun dun dun...
Next novel up is Killing Floor. Trying to incorporate a few more straight up fun books in the mix not just stuff I'll like on a deeper level but take more thought.

Now this is a shock! Lee Child passing the Jack Reacher series over to his brother! Will be interesting to see what happens.
Any thoughts on this?
#Auldlangreads #Bookyoureadin2010 What fun to look up my reads from 10 yrs ago.I had moved late 2009 ,many books in storage.Salinger died 1/27/10 so I reread his 4 books, read the Chelsea Handler books in order (3)I also read the tagged book,(the last book read that year)2 McMurtry memoirs and the agonizing yet brilliant We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver & more! Crosby photo bomb 💣.
I got more coffee from her kitchen. Went out back. There was a small yard out there, a neat coarse lawn and some recent #evergreen planting. Shredded bark to smother weeds and rough timber edging against the planted areas. I stood in the sun and sipped the coffee. #QuotsyDec19
I almost never read #crimefiction, but I was sucked into this novel simply by reading the first paragraph. I had received this book as a donation for my Little Free Library, and I was just looking through this book. Eight chapters later, I think I know why Lee Child is such a popular author! 😃
This is the first book in the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child. Fairly good, easy read but a bit dragged out in places and chunky at 524 pages (paperback edition). This is the first thing I've read by Lee Child other than a Jack Reacher short story in the 2018 The Best American Mystery Stories anthology.
The story line is very clear throughout the book and it doesn't venture off of it on tangents. I cant wait to read the rest of the novels and learn more about Jack Reacher. I wouldn't say that it was a fast paced novel it is quite a slow book that gradually builds up the details needed for the ending.
This is the first Jack Reacher novel, and it shows. Not as polished as the later novels but it set up the Reacher character and works brilliantly. It‘s not essential to read these novels in order but this is a must read if you want to read the series. Child almost makes me want to try the hobo life.
Found the first Jack Reacher book in the library app, and decided to see what the popularity is about. I'm finding it hard to adjust to the narrator. He reads in a drawl, a bit staccato, like a list. With stress on nouns and the final word like it's almost an exclamation. "I was Arrested in Eno's DINER. At 12 o'CLOCK. I was eating EGGS and drinking COFFEE. A late Breakfast, not Lunch. I was wet and Tired after a long Walk in heavy RAIN." ?
A dark, graphic account of a rambling man who gets caught in a murderous plot.
The story was enjoyably written.
Def an adult book, not for kids.
Very different from the film.
Thanks for the #GreenvilleSC shout out, Lee!

Killing floor certainly wasn‘t a case of killing time! An absolute thriller from start to finish! The next book is Die Trying and that is what I am willing to do to read all the Jack Reacher novels, thoroughly recommended!
My first taste of the Reacher books. Clipped sentences and plenty of machismo. So far, so good.
