I absolutely loved reading these short stories , as with any book of short stories there is always some that stick in your mind more . It is a perfect welcome into the writing style of Val McDermid , and its so great to be able to dip in and out of the book if you only have a spare ten minutes you can pick it up and read one of them , can‘t praise this book more! Loved it!

Poor Agatha has a right roller coaster of a time in this one! We follow Agatha through another mystery the characters are explored more deeply and we get to see a bit more of Agatha's vulnerability which deepens the connection with her.

This is one of them mysteries that twists and turns just when you think it is finally solved and case closed something else pops up and blows it open. I would highly recommend this book and this series

After finally finishing the book (every time I sat down to read it I ended up falling asleep) I still can't make up my mind. The character of Grenouille is strange, confusing, disgusting and horrible. He is an orphan but he is evil, for me he wasn't a character that I could like or understand why he was doing what he was doing. I am not sure whether I enjoyed the book or not...not sure I will ever make my mind up about it

The twists and turns in this book were not what I expected at all, the characters and settings are so well described you can close your eyes and picture yourself watching them, seeing exactly what they are doing.
I absolutely love Jeffery Deaver, his writing style just keeps you hooked and makes you think of the book even when you aren't reading it.

To me it was a book that you needed to force yourself to keep reading to try to find the good bit, the bit that would get you hooked on it. It did have a couple of twists where you thought you knew what was going to happen but then it slightly changed. But for me the characters seemed a little flat, they weren't like able , they were predictable characters.

Through the novel we find out about the life of Violet (Bethany) , although its not really romantic you do find out about her ups and downs in life and how she overcame them. Although it is a book that does venture into depression and addiction, for me it is not a book that I would remember in later months what happened in it, or be one that I would recommend to someone who is going through any of that to read.

The Eagle Has Landed | Jack Higgins

The writing style of Jack Higgins is one that does keep hold of your attention and he does describe the characters and the events well so that you can picture it happening. However the book for me just didn't leave lasting memories or anything that would make me want to go back and read the book again. It wasn't one that played on my mind when I wasn't reading it.

I found that the authors writing style was one that eased you quite easily into the book. This is the third book in the series it is the sort of book that you can get engrossed into and find yourself not wanting to put it down. The characters in the novel are very well described and makes the novel have more depth too it and helps to ingrain the characters and the story into your mind even when you are away from it.

The Game | Tom Wood

I will admit that I did pick reading the book over sleeping and occasionally eating but that just shows how good the book is. The story this time is in two different views for a part of the book until both stories join up. The characters in the story are complex , complicated well developed characters, he describes them in such a way that you can picture them in your mind and that you can play out the scenes in your mind like it was a film.

In this novel we get to see more of Victor and get to know him more as a character and the way his mind works. This book is very up and down like a roller coaster of events, it keeps a grip of your mind and your thoughts making you continuously go back too it, I did lose sleep because I just had to keep reading it, the writing style of Tom Wood is incredibly addictive.

Dead Simple | Peter James
Pickpick

The characters that feature in the book are very well described by the author and he portrays them in a way where you can imagine the characters and you do start to slightly think ahead of them once you know what the characters are like and you start to notice the way that they think. It was addictive and it kept me going back for more, it was like a drug to me I couldn't get enough of it!

The descriptive writing that Peter James uses prints images in your mind (not always the nicest images to see!) but it gives the book added depth and makes it stand out from other books. This book does refer back too the last book (luckily I read that one first!) but it does also recap so if you haven‘t read the first book you can catch up with the characters and what the situations are.

For me this book had too much back story to much looking back to his childhood, I know that this was important otherwise the novel wouldn't have made as much sense but I feel like their should have been more on the actual investigation and more on the murder. I did find it hard to keep up between reading the past and reading what was currently happening in the novel.

It captures the readers attention and keeps hold of it throughout the whole novel. As soon as you think you know what is going to happen the story takes a twists and carries you on the adventure keeping you guessing and thinking about what is going to happen next.In this novel we see more of the team that work with Lincoln and the characters are all very well described and connects the reader even more to the story

Gone for Good | Harlan Coben

I didn't like this novel as much as I have enjoyed other books in this genre, it tended to wander off into Will Klein (the main character in the novel) to focus on his back story , which to be honest makes that part of the book quite boring, I prefer the parts of the novel where they are actually looking and investigating into who did it.

Not Dead Enough | Peter James

Grace certainly had to think hard about this case, the murder of 2 women, one suspect...only problem is the suspect was no where near the victims when they died and has a strong alibi. This story is one that keeps on your brain, keeps you thinking and wondering about who it could have been even when your not reading it.It has a great depth to the book with the great descriptions of the characters and the writing technique of Peter James is great

The story line is very clear throughout the book and it doesn't venture off of it on tangents. I cant wait to read the rest of the novels and learn more about Jack Reacher. I wouldn't say that it was a fast paced novel it is quite a slow book that gradually builds up the details needed for the ending.

The Darkest Day | Tom Wood

In this novel Victor is joined by another assassin Raven, Victor is one of them characters that even though he is an assassin you still like him, and grow fond of him through the novels, you end up willing him on to get the guy, this is down to the amazing writing skills of Tom Wood who knows just how to capture the readers attention and knows how to keep them hooked on his novels!

The characters that feature in the story are very well described so that you get a vivid picture of each of the characters in your mind as your reading the novels, which also helps when you are trying to figure out who did it. The book is fast paced and doesn't move from the main story line like a few murder mystery books do so you end up losing track of what was going on it the story.

I thought that this was a brilliant book that was written so well and completely got me hooked on it
If you are looking for a thriller that will capture your attention, not let it go and make you think about the novel when you are away from it, makes you want to even leave work and curl back up with the book then I would definitely recommend this series and I cant wait to read the rest of the series!

I read a lot of thriller/detective books and so I always look at the way the main character is described, the way they work. Maeve Kerrigan is the main character (detective constable) and is described very well, the methodical way of thinking and the way the author describes what she is doing, thinking and the way she interacts with other people makes it seem like it is real, like you are watching it all unfolding as you are reading it.

This novel just makes your mind turn in every direction and keeps you guessing as to what is going to happen next, it is set into different perspectives and different times, nicely sectioned by chapters making it a lot easier to remember which character is being the narrator and also makes it easier if you need to put the book down (if you can) to get to end of the chapter and not be confused when you next pick up the book.

The Devil in the Marshalsea | Antonia Hodgson
Pickpick

I did find it a bit slow to start with and it did take me awhile to get into the book to the point where I cant put the book down. The main plot of the story is to find out who the murderer truly is, there are plenty of suspects in the Marshalsea, and your mind when you are reading it will pretty much accuse everyone of it and find reasons to suspect them all and make you think you have worked it all out.

The characters that feature in this series by Peter James really develop throughout the series, I have grown to know them and I found this particular novel to be rather touching and emotional , there are some touching topics featured which will make the read stop and reconsider who's side you are on. The writing style in this book is fast paced, keeps you on your toes and keeps your brain thinking about it even once you have put the book down

It is the type of book that is perfect for a sunny day sat out reading, it is a quite quick read as it is one that captures your attention and retains it throughout the novel.

In this book we follow Agatha on a journey to find out who starting sending death threats then who killed the grooms father. The journey leads us from the quiet little village all the way to France, it is a fun little mystery book to read .

I had been meaning to read this book for years and finally got round too it, knowing the hype the novel has I was hoping it wasn‘t going to be a let down and it wasn‘t I thought it was a really well written book! For someone who doesn‘t like horror films this book was perfect , I didn‘t really find it scary but I did think that it was a great book and it held onto my attention, playing with my imagination. I would definitely read more of his books
