I don‘t know what I thought this book was going to be, but I was not expecting a three page detailed explanation of a giant locking someone in a coffin and burning it. Too violent and gruesome for my liking.
This story is about a teen who has her own criminal empire. She has designer drugs, a henchman, and a nemesis. Question is, is the nemesis the hero? She is a cold, calculating person, who seeks to make a fortune through her three special drugs. If you like books that challenge gender norms, deal with teens in unhealthy situations, or have scandalous romances, then this story is for you.
This book is 13 short stories about villainy, but I'm only going to talk about one of them: Jack by Ameriie. Jack is a twisted fairy tale of the story Jack and the Beanstalk told from the perspective of a giantess. If you like Fractured Fairytales I highly recommend reading this particular story in Because You Love To Hate Me. The story is a turning point in the narrorators life and has a subtle theme of parental pressures and expectations.
“You have to be in charge of telling your own story. And sometimes the princess needs to get off her ass, pick up a sword, and slay the dragon herself.“
My top 3:
1. Death Knell by V.E. Schwab
2. The Blessing of Little Wants by Sarah Enni
3. Sera by Nicola Yoon
2.5/5⭐ As usual with anthologies, there were a few standouts but most fell short. The best stories were Riccio's, Ameriie's and Burke's, Meyer's, and Schwab's. Individual ratings and notes at https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2799154417. #OWLsReadathon2019
Short stories about Villains. My favorite part was the information about the challenges the authors were answering and the responses from the other authors. #shortstories #halfbloodbingo

Liking these short stories so far. A good #OctoberRead #villains 🖤
#septemberstats #readingresolutions my stats for this month. I‘m hoping I read more next month. I feel like my counts have gotten smaller with the last couple months.
I liked it. Some of the stories were really interesting and others were ok.
I am loving this cover. Creepy, yet pretty
I‘m bailing and early. I was on my 3rd short story when I just genuinely lost interest. Like the comcept seemed nice but I didnt care for it. None if the 3 stories I tried really grabbed me at all. The writing was okay but I‘m not invested. I‘m moving on.
This is the next short story collection for #keepingitshort! I am in love with this cover! Absolutely in love and I‘m hoping this is a decent collection of stories! I‘ve seen mixed reviews about it.
Books a Million #bookhaul !!! All these for just under $20!! They're having a bunch of sales at my location
I'm most excited for the tagged book, it's been on my tbr for a while. And I Darken is one of my all-time favorites and I didn't own a copy until now
The Philippa Gregory is three books in one!
And then that #chunkster Edgar Allen Poe- 800 pages! 📚📚📚
Happy Friday!🎉
I liked only two stories out of 13
I finished the sea witch with my morning tea and breakfast and I have to say, I can see why everyone seems to like it. It‘s one of my favorites so far along with “Shirley and Jim” and “Jack”
My power is out but I have a flashlight and a fear of the dark so instead of trying to get back to sleep. I‘m gonna get some reading done. Everyone who reads this book says that they love this short story so I‘m both excited and afraid to read it.
For those who have read this short story in #becauseyoulovetohateme what did you think of it? For me it wasn‘t one of my favorites. In fact, it may be my least favorite so far; but maybe I just need to re-read it. If you liked it what did you like about it and should I look at it again?
A quote from because you love to hate me. Personally, I like believing in fairytales.
What better way to spend a sleepless night than with a nice cup of tea in a makkachin mug and a bedtime story based on Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty
My first bail of the year... This wasn‘t a terrible book or anything, I just couldn‘t get into it. I‘m not a huge fan of short stories but I wanted to give it a shot anyway because Ameriie did the editing. The few stories I read were brief but not very interesting, which was unexpected because villains are typically interesting by nature. I might revisit this one in the future but for now I‘m calling it.
Pippin had a rough day getting shots at the vet, so tonight he's getting extra snuggles whilst I read my new book.

Thank you so much @kamoorephoto! This was the nicest surprise when I opened my ereader at the phlebotomist office this morning! And I was just getting ready to start a new book- but now this one comes first! ❤❤❤
I always like getting the perspective of a villain/antihero, but short stories are a hard way to fully explore/flesh them out. And because the authors were given specific parameters of what villain tale to tell, they were more limited than if they wrote their own idea. I only read the stories of authors I knew: Ahdieh, Dennard, Meyer*, Schwab, Shannon*, and Yoon. I don‘t care about the booktubers, so I didn't read any of the essays. (* favorites)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
What a fun read! I love a good villain origin story, and this collection has lots of twists and deliciously bad turns. #villans #badgirlsguidetovillainy #beavillian
Has anyone else read this yet? It looks really interesting! #13 #novemberbythenumbers @JoeStalksBeck @Tiffy_Reads
These are pretty addicting short stories. I‘m having a hard time in some deciding who is the bad guy. #readalong #Deweys24HourReadathin

4 stars! This antology was overall well written and captivating. Maybe just that booktubers parts were kind of unnecessary for me sometimes. Also some stories I liked more and some less. That's why I give this rating😊

Book Review!
•
My very first anthology and I was not disappointed! I went in knowing that there are some stories you'd like, and others...well, not so much. But i think each villain story would appeal to someone and there is something for everyone in this book.

I was genuinely surprised, a majority of the stories were really good! As with all anthologies some were better than others, but no matter what every story still had a cool new take on some classic villains. I also liked being able to read a commentary on the story after each one - they were always good for a laugh. Overall a solid read and I definitely recommend
Starting this pretty book now!🌹

3/5 🌠
Just okay.
I enjoyed reading about villains. I understand them though. haha Who doesn't love dramas?!
Recommended to everyone!
:)
At first, I gave this book an overall rating of 4 stars, but now I feel like it's more of a 3.5. The stories are a hit or miss. I loved some of them, but hated some of them! My favorites are the ones by Cindy Pon, Victoria Schwab, and Marissa Meyer! You can read my full review on my blog-- the link is on my profile!
Honestly, some of these stories were really lackluster and I'm kinda unsure how to feel about the collection as a whole. Some stories really knocked my socks off, Nicola Yoon, Cindy Pon, Samanta Shannon, Sarah Enni were my faves and Victoria Schwab, Adam Silvera and Renée Ahdieh get favorable mention, but worst were the YouTuber commentaries. To me it just felt like a gimmick to get the word out and get this book hyped... Maybe only two were ok.
