As a mercenary who cleans up after magic gone wrong, Kate Daniels knows how waves of paranormal energy ebb and flow across Atlanta like a tide. But once every seven years, a flare comes, a time when magic runs rampant. When Kate sets out to retrieve a set of stolen maps for the Pack, Atlanta's paramilitary clan of shape shifters, she quickly realizes much more is at stake. The stolen maps are only the opening gambit in an epic tug of war between two gods hoping for rebirth, and if Kate can't stop the cataclysmic showdown, the city may not survive.

I enjoyed the second book even more than the first. I'm getting better at skimming over the gory bits 😂 Basically, I love every character in this series. Even the sketchy ones. The concept for this world is so creative and engaging.

1. Eve Dallas in the In Death Series by Nora Roberts She is a no-nonsense woman, and she always solves the case. ( With help from her team)
2. Kate Daniels in the Kate Daniels Series by Ilona Andrew. She is a bad ass.
3. Rachel Morgan in The Hollows Series by Kim Harrison Her love of family even if the are friends and her bad ass attitude.

The 2nd book did not disappoint. Lesser known pantheons &beings are mishmashed together& rules for the typical urban fantasy faves are convoluted. But characters are good, plot is sensible, action is striking. Romance is on the back burner, but it‘s getting warm. & I love found family trope.

Kate takes in a young girl whose mother(&coven) have gone missing, immediately refers to her as “my kid”. Annoys the Beastlord. Faces a bird god.

DaveGreen7777 Kate is very good at annoying the Beast Lord! 🤣🦁 2y
5feet.of.fury @DaveGreen7777 I‘m enjoying how much they antagonize eachother 😂 2y

Second in the Kate Daniels series, set in a sometimes-magical Atlanta. In this one Kate and friends deal with an incursion by minions of a Celtic godling. It's a fun series with a sense of humor, and I shouldn't let so much time pass between episodes.

This series is just awesome. I this book was nonstop crazy magic, bad guys and twists and turns. I listened on audio and it was so well done that I just sat in my driveway finishing a chapter before I went in the house.

I really am enjoying this series. This is the second book. I‘m not the best at reading series but I think I‘ll be able to stick with this one. They are entertaining and a lot of stuff happens and I need Kate and Curran to get together! I also really hearing about Kate‘s backstory and her magical abilities.

#BookSpinBonanza - Book 6? I think this was pulled as number 8.

My favourite genre is fantasy (urban or otherwise). I love all the world building and the variety of characters. And who couldn‘t use a little more magic in their lives?

It‘s a shame for the characters that there is usually murder, war, or significant crimes attached to all fantasy...

Continuing my series reread to fulfill SRP challenges. First was a first book by an author, now the second book in a series.

Ilona shared a Facebook post a while ago revealing that the series was originally intended to be episodic rather than cumulative, and these first couple of books really are. I still love them, but the series definitely gets better later.

I forgot how frantic the pacing is sometimes. So much worldbuilding stuffed into quite a small space, and sometimes the leaps of logic left me having to backtrack a page or two to make sure I followed. Still very enjoyable -- and it had the buns hanging on to every word... #BunniesofLitsy

This is fun urban fantasy, with a heroine who is not always perfect but is tough and smart. The world building was intriguing but I wanted more explanation for some things. If technology is so unpredictable, why does society keep the electricity grids up, especially for necessary things like traffic lights, instead of finding a different solution? Overall enjoyable, and I‘ll continue the series.

Dear Ilona Andrews why did you have to kill my new favorite character I was just beginning to like him 😭💔. But I must say I love this book more than the first book, it kept me on edge. I love the humor and banter of Kate with anyone. I can‘t wait to read the next book.

Book two was a bit better than book one. Mercenary Kate Daniels faces off against an old god with the help of her friends. Along the way she adopts a kid. My favorite character remains Saiman even though he didn't show up very much in this book.

I love this series. I‘m winding my way back through, half in audiobook, half by reading and the audiobook really makes clear that the early books are just that, early books for the author. The writing starts getting better in this book and the world develop really pick up. Kate is a fabulous character and the authors drop lots of cool hints that become important in later books. I love a well planned series

I'm glad i tried this second book. Already understanding the world development, made this book easily enjoyable right out of the gate. The interaction between Curran and Kate is positively snarky. I love it. I definitely recommend it.

WarpedSweetness @ScientistSam I have only read read up to book four I believe. The others on my TBR. But I l love those four books. 7y
Chachic @ScientistSam Agree, Ilona and Gordon are awesome! I keep trying to find books similar to theirs but no one can compare. 7y
ScientistSam @Chachic have you read Patricia Briggs, especially her early Mercy Thompson books and the spin-off Alpha and Omega series? 7y
Chachic @ScientistSam Yep, I read the first three Mercy Thompson books and the first Alpha and Omega book, but didn't feel like continuing with either of those series. They weren't for me, unfortunately. 7y
ScientistSam @Chachic well, if you ever find something close, let me know! Jim Butcher's Dresden Files are quite different from most of Ilona's series, but they are also wonderful urban fantasy about a PI/wizard. It's another series where I keep trying to find others similar to it but haven't quite. 7y
Chachic I haven't tried Jim Butcher's series, mostly because I'm not ready to commit to such a long one. Sigh, I don't think there's anyone quite like Ilona and Gordon. 7y
willreadforfeels Oooh! Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews are just about my top authors for urban fantasy, actually they're among my top authors in general, anything they put out is an autobuy for me. Also, Narnian nostalgia is a thing! I used to crush on Prince Caspian. 😍 7y
