This was a fun little cozy mystery; and I enjoyed it. It was a nice light read with enough twists to keep you wondering.

So this was one of the books I read this weekend. I was a little hesitant given my opinion of the last one, but I liked this one a good amount.
"We all bear scars, Dorian. Mine just happen to be more visible than most."
Love this line
Finished this one last night. I loved that two of my favorite characters were the focus of this one. I didn't feel like it flowed as well as some of the previous books. But what sealed the so-so rating was the last line. I'm not gonna give a spoiler but the last chapter seemed rushed and then to end it that way killed me.
I finished reading this one this afternoon. I will say that I definitely liked this one better than Artemis. The inner dialogue was much more enjoyable. Also the switching between Mars and Earth scenes flowed well. Definitely glad I read this one.
Came across this line and as an engineer it made me laugh.
"Once I got home, I sulked for a while. All my brilliant plans foiled by thermodynamics. Damn you, Entropy!"
So I took this quiz tonight. Not really sure about the selection. Most were academic obligatory books. 🙄

So finished this one tonight. I must say I do really like how the writing styles of the authors melds together so well. This one wasn't a heart pausing as say The Relic but it was a nicely pieced story with some nice turns. I did find myself somehow going from what seemed like chapter 5 to 33 in no time yesterday.
So I finished this one earlier, today. I have to say I'm a bit mixed on it. The story line was pretty good, but the rolling commentary by Jazz was a bit nerve grating at times in my opinion. I haven't read The Martian yet, but I would be willing to give it a go.
Second book finished this weekend. I have been in a bit of a reading slump lately. Nothing has really grabbed me and said sit, sit you must read me now. This one is an interesting twist of time travel into the future. I liked it.
So I got this one at the library yesterday, and pretty throughly devoured it afterward. 😁 It was my first try of this author and I very much enjoyed it. The story unfolds as told by the point of view of the two main characters. It was a fun read, and I hope the story will continue.
Because it's only fair to enable and share this on the day of our #PotterHeadSwap opening day. 😁.

Oh my gosh this was what I found when I opened my box from Gissy. Yummy chocolate and lots of packages.
"Then her tiny umbrella burst open wider and expanded into a six-foot canopy of pink ruffles.".
What a wonderful mode of escape - jumping from a building and floating with an umbrella/parachute.?
Finally getting a chance to read some of this ARC. So far I am loving it - a great tale so far.

Everyone Has A Book Genre That Matches Their Personality

Real education doesn't make your life easy. It complicates things and makes everything messy and disturbing."
The book opens with an immediate suicide and then carries the reader on a course of twists and turns that are at times pretty dark and often quite surprising. I think it was a great debut book for the author as well.
The beginning was neat, had fun intrigue and quite a bit of compulsion to turn the pages fast. But the end left me more with a deflated "oh" than anything else.
Delightfully intriguing so far. There is a lovely suspense that has me compelled to read just a bit more each time i pass the book. Plenty of bits that will have you questioning and wondering. Definitely liking it so far.
Still a pick for me, but this one leaves a lot open. Jane has moved from being an independent loner to having quite a support network and a full house at the moment. I'm curious to see how thr next book develops.
"that understanding a book is not the same as being able to spell out all of the words."
I'm glad i tried this second book. Already understanding the world development, made this book easily enjoyable right out of the gate. The interaction between Curran and Kate is positively snarky. I love it. I definitely recommend it.
Just finished this, love the addition of the Young boys. There were enough twists and little hangers, I can't wait to read the next one.
I followed because I thought that if I turned back then I would keep turning back, turning away from every other fear, from every new thing ...
My #LitsyPartyOfOne started a little late, but I stayed up till around 230a reading this. I ended at a "wait, what just happened" point, so i'm quite eager to get back to reading asap.
Ok this is more of a rant, I will be honest. Of the books i have read lately, there have been at least 3; that have referenced the copper smell of blood. One used the reference across the entire book. I can't remember exactly what copper smells like... but blood, blood smells like iron.
Thus blatant incorrect reference in so many books just irked me. If you are talking about vampires or bloody fights know the right blood references, please.
The who done it aspect of this book was spot on. The steady twists last and will keep you wondering. If you prefer a dark macarbe style this might be a pick for you.
The idea of a steampunk, alternative history of WW1 intrigued me to pick this last weekend at the library. The story is develops with the Central Powers, known as Clankers, using mechanical war machines, opposed the Allies, known as Darwinists, that fabricate genetic creatures. The concept was neat; but I would say that the story didn't fully grab me enough to pick it fully but i liked it more than a so-so. I would be willing to read the next one.
My house edition came in the mail today. Its lovely!!
"one day I would have to decide where I wanted to spend my life. With Will in the fabulous world of words, in which everything and everyone was controlled by invisible authors. Or without him in the real world, whose stories were even more exciting because they were written by life."
I honestly am mixed on this. The story was good, the different take on the general classes of species was interesting. The development of the key world factor of tech and magic was lacking. It felt like i had picked up a book in the middle of a series, instead of the first one. The first few chapters were tough at times. Given that though, after finishing the book, i probably will give Magic Burns a chance.
I have been really enjoying this series, and like the main character quite a bit. The last few chapters felt a bit rushed to cram a bunch in but overall it was enjoyable. I will be curious to see the further character development in the next book.
My favorite line i think.
"When I most had need of you, you did not leave me. Whatever this thing is that makes us different, this thing that makes quicksilver of us when the rest of the world is mud, it binds us. To break that would be to fly in the face of nature."
"Whether we speak now or later, it does not matter, my lord. I am a hunter by trade, you know. I have a great deal of practice in waiting patiently for my kill."
"That was the true measure of his character; even at the height of his irritation he would never let me fall." Veronica describing Stroker
