I appreciated the author‘s fictionalization of Anne Hathaway as a nonconforming, kestrel-owning herbalist named Agnes ( as noted in Hathaway‘s father‘s will), as well as her depiction of the inconsolable grief of loss.

This book was good enough to make me question whether I could@make a career change and become an ornithologist.
For those of you who love nature, the outdoors, environmental science or ecology, Robin Wall Kimmerer writes beautiful essays about her relationship and the relationship of indigenous peoples with the land. #justfinished
It's gonna be a rough last week of August! #paris #nonfiction #beachread
#backpackEurope I didn't do backpacking in my most recent trip to Europe but I did do some book shopping.
I've been inactive for awhile, too much work and stress. I've made some changes and have reprioritized. Today was about knitting and reading.
I flew through this one but I'm a sucker for a historical fiction true crime combo. It's a retelling of the Borden murders from four different perspectives.
Great historical fiction novel on the patent lawsuits between George Westinghouse and Thomas Edison and the War of Currents between Tesla and Edison. This may seem dull to some; I assure it's quite the contrary. The audiobook narrator was fantastic. #justfinished #historicalfiction #bookrecommendation #botm #july
Slay, diva. I browsed through this once when I worked at B &N. Stunning photography and plenty of anecdotes from Liz. #diamonds #lyricalapril
This is an epistolary novel as the title suggests. The protagonist takes the opportunity to write about her husband's death to a long time friend and gives the reader a look into the life of women in post-colonial Senegal. #womenintranslation #aprilbookshowers
This has always been my favorite cover artwork for We Have Always Lived in the Castle. #publishedinthe1960s #aprilbookshowers
I used to work near a really spooky school that was surrounded by mist each morning. I always thought about Stephen King's novella The Mist when I drove through it each day. #weather #aprilbookshowers
I loved the Boxcar Children series as a kid and loved the idea of renting a lighthouse for the summer, especially one where mysterious happenings occur on a nightly basis and a mystery needs to be solved. Still haven't fulfilled that goal yet but it's always in the back of my mind. In the meantime, a visit to Cape Hatteras lighthouse every few years will have to suffice. #lighthouses #marchintoreading
Technically a short story originally published in Penthouse, this is the Stephen King story that still makes me uneasy. I also found a French movie poster for the movie calling the story Horror Kid!?! #scaredyou #stephenking17
The problem is that I've read too many historical fiction novels based around the creation of a masterpiece of art. I'm not sure if I thought the book was boring or whether I'm bored with this genre in general. #didntlikeitstillfinished #marchintoreading
I'm recently addicted to a number of true crime podcasts... Crimetown, Stranglers, Someone Knows Something...I can't recommend these enough so I decided to read something from the true crime genre and flew through the first hundred or so pages in a single sitting. #recentnonfiction #marchintoreading #recentnonfictionread
I'm judging from this cover that this book is ridiculously awesome. I have to stock the Little Free Library for the university I work at and this was a donation. Maybe I should keep it for myself? #judgedbythecover #marchintoreading #judgedbyitscover
This one is going to take me awhile to get through this monster and if it is the only book I am able to read this month, I'll be happy with that! #marchtbr #day1 #marchintoreading
My husband and I rented a cottage in Nags Head before we were married. Legends of the Outer Banks was one of the books left in the cottage. I took it out to the beach with me and became engrossed in tales about pirates, the Lost Colony, and Hatteras Jack, a dolphin that apparently helped ships navigate through the inlet. I bought my own copy of this book when we returned for our one year wedding anniversary. #boughtonvacation #feistyfeb
Electronic Superhighway is my #somethingpretty for today and the works of art I saw today by Nam June Paik inspire me to read about his life #riotgrams
#palatecleanser I read this book after finishing the Nix which weighed in at 655 pages. I needed something quick and easy before starting into Underground Airlines. My husband @manifestsanity may have also overheard me mumbling under my breath, "Now that's a f*#%ing tapestry" as I studied the picture above in great detail while reading the book. #feistyfeb
I tend to use postcards of paintings or places I love as my #bookmarks. And I always use multiple bookmarks at the same time. Here is what I am currently using. #riotgrams #bookmark
#lovetitles #feistyfeb The movie is more sentimental than the book and doesn't delve as deeply into issues of race and class. It's also set in the swinging sixties rather than post-war London. The film has far overshadowed the book, but it's worth a read.
There was much debate about the genre of this book – science fiction, horror, dystopian coming of age? I enjoyed this book because as a reader, I had to unravel the mystery of what exactly these students were being prepared for at their pastoral boarding school and it takes most of the novel to figure out what is going on. In any case Kathy, Ruth, and Tommy have a complicated relationship. #lovetriangle #feistyfeb #lovetriangles
I read a lot of Nancy Drew, Babysitters Club, and the Little House series that I loved. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe also was a favorite but I always wanted to go to bed early when I got my hands on a new Christopher Pike book so I could spend some quality creepy reading time. #favoritechildrensbook #riotgrams

#currentlyreading #riotgram or is it #riotgrams. Here are my February reads.
#favoritevillain Seduction, revenge, malice. La Marquise de Merteuil is the ultimate game player, and in the end everyone knows it as she falls into ruin. #riotgrams
At first I was turned off by these awful, selfish people, but their desperate, deranged actions and bad choices grew on me. By the end I was ready to pack my bags and move to the Yorkshire moors. Sidenote: you should also definitely watch the Masterpiece movie version staring Tom Hardy. This ain't your grandmother's Wuthering Heights for sure! #changedmymindabout #feistyFeb #day4
This is technically non-fiction but is based largely on speculation due to the non-existence of historical records about Barbe-Nicole Cliquot Ponsardin's life. You will read so many sentences that begin with "it's likely,", "she must have", and "perhaps", so I'm counting it as #foodiefiction. I learned a lot about the champagne making process though! ??? #readJanuary
Tiki time with a musical soundtrack "curated" by James Michener ?and mai tais concocted by me. #potentpotable
I live in Baltimore, but my husband stole my choice for today's #readJanuary. I'm not from Baltimore so I'm not that offended. Instead, I choose to represent the city I know better than any other, the one I called home for 3 years, and keep coming back to time and time again. "If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast." #setinmycity
#girlinthetitle I read this a few weeks ago and was frustrated over how little historical information was present about Vermeer. I started doing my own research on the Dutch Golden Age and it turns out there is next to nothing we know about him, who he studied under, the fact that he didn't seem to have anyone he mentored, etc. His work was all but forgotten, even attributed to other artists at times until the mid-19th century. #readJanuary
#DNF #Januaryreads Sadly, as a history major and teacher, I did not finish Wolf Hall. I think it was more about my packed schedule at the time rather than the book. I may come back to it one day or perhaps watch the TV series instead.
I know, I know. How have I not read this? It's on my TBR list for this year. #januaryreads #bookseveryonebutyouhasread
I know some people liked this one, but I quickly wished I had chosen to read Helter Skelter. I know it's a coming of age story and it is loosely based on the Manson family but I don't think Emma Cline was able to show the magnetism that attracted people to her cult leader "Russell". I give it a so-so rating instead of panning it because I did discuss the book a lot with my husband and I was compelled to do my own research on actual events.
I'm excited I was able to check this book out of the library but even better was the little post-it note left inside by the previous reader.
This is the first book completed in 2017 and the first audiobook that I have listened to and enjoyed immensely. Some have complained that not much happens in the book but I liked the rambling thoughts and conversations of the protagonist as she stayed in the hospital and reflected on her life.
I didn't quite make my goal but I spent most of the year working 60 hours a week so I am happy with what I was able to read. #seasonsreadings2016 #topreadsof2016 #bestreads2016
Wanderlust setting in again...2 of the last 5 books stacked are about Scandinavian culture. #seasonsreadings2016 #lastbookstacked #tbr #lastbookyoustacked
If you love tiki bars and rum based cocktails, I can't recommend this book enough. It's more than just recipes but also a history of tiki culture and the history of rum. This blustery day can only be improved with a Mai Tai. #bookswithpictures #seasonsreadings2016
#poetry #seasonsreadings2016 I don't read a lot of poetry anymore, but I bought this from the bouquinistes along the Seine so it comes down off the shelf every once in awhile when I feel nostalgic for my years in France.
Favorite film adaptation- hands down the 1995 BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice staring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle and I'm not ashamed to admit that Bridget Jones's Diary is my favorite book adaptation. #favoritejaneaustenadaptation #seasonsreadings2016
#thisshouldbeamovie ...more like a mini-series. Although, I heard the books are being made into a television series in Italy. #seasonsreadings2016
