Pickpick

My Dad always told me this was the Stephen King story that scared him the most. So I was almost disappointed when the beginning started out slow-ish. Then the actual Children of the Corn entered the story and I was completely creeped out. Evil children and extreme religions can be terrifying and both are in this story!! I imagine the movie would scare me to pieces.

I‘m almost finished with Night Shift! #readingStephenKing

TheNeverendingTBR Favourite one so far? 4y
intothehallofbooks @TheNeverendingTBR It‘s tough to pick just one, so many great ones. I think my favorite so far is The Mangler, about the possessed ironing and folding machine. It‘s so weird and perfectly gross and creepy. I‘ve only got four stories left!! I‘m hoping to finish today🤞🏻 4y

In this short story, an unhappy couple was going to California for a vacation when driving through some rural place, they came across a town which seems like a #ghosttown , deserted and where many things about the town are out of date, such as gas prices and calendars, which have not been updated since 1964! Have you read it? Or seen the movie or tv series?
#MOvember

aprilpohren I've seen the movie, but not read the actual book. 5y
Texreader Yes to both but many many years ago. I barely remember it except the crux of the story. 5y
Cinfhen Yes to the movie but I was a child myself 😂😂 5y

I hadn‘t seen Children of the Corn in AGES, I barely remembered it (well, aside from the creepy kids), and while I‘ve seen all the original Elm Street movies multiple times, especially the first couple, I thought why not give the 2010 version a go.
It‘s just the same without the original cast though!

Some great effects and cinematic work in it - if you can appreciate it for that stuff 🔪

@Clwojick

Clwojick Freddy was always my favourite, as a child. We used to watch the Elm street movies every weekend and sing the song when skipping. When I think about it now... we were a little demonic 😈😂 5y
kamoorephoto Well, the song is pretty catchy...!! 😹 5y
kamoorephoto @Clwojick Wait, is it 2 points for the movies, and 1 point for the post? 5y

Clwojick One point per movie, one for the post. 3 total. I‘ve got it marked down 😉 5y
Reggie One of the sequels has the Arquette sibling who later becomes a woman. She passed away a couple of years ago unfortunately. I liked part 1 though. 5y
kamoorephoto @Reggie Are you thinking of Alexis Arquette? It was Patricia Arquette who was in Part 3 (Dream Warriors); I only know that for sure because that‘s my favorite Elm Street movie. Alexis was in a bunch of horror movies though, including Bride of Chucky, but my favorite still has to be when she was in The Wedding Singer...😹 5y

Okay, so this came out in 1984 when I was in high school and I thought it was so creepy. It‘s totally stupid, amIright? #scarathlon #teamslaughter @Clwojick
Watched this tonight for my points!

Clwojick I haven‘t seen this in forever! But movies have a way of doing that. I used to be so freaked out by Jeepers Creepers, but I‘m sure I‘d just roll my eyes at it now. 5y
Kappadeemom And I completely didn‘t realize that Linda Hamilton is in this movie. I guess she was a “unknown” back then 🤷‍♀️ 5y
Bookwormjillk Yes, this movie kept me up for days when I first saw it! 5y

DS9 5.5 #TheAssignment Because we need to beat on O'Brien a little more. And Keiko too in this case. Man, these too have a marriage made of steel! Pah-Wraith shenanigans and Rom being Rom. I love Rom. I liked the episode, but threats made to children is a trigger, so I fastforward that part.

Tagging one of the ur-bodysnatching stories out there. #startreksummerjune

Nothing book related, but I thought I‘d share this with @BarbaraTheBibliophage and @Gezemice we were teasing each other about how far out we live.

The is the actual picture out my front door, corn fields! 😂 Although this road is very busy at times, we‘ve actually talked about moving somewhere quieter. 🤪

BarbaraTheBibliophage Proof! My corn fields are a few blocks further away than yours. I‘ll have to walk up and take a pic sometime. 🌽 6y
saresmoore Wow! 6y
Gezemice Wow! Really in the middle of corn fields! Mine are about 3-4 blocks away... you win! 😊 6y

Drove through these cornfields by myself for the first time while heading back to my in-laws last night. I got to right to the middle and of course, this short story hopped into my head. I damn near froze. 😳 I‘ve read the story and the movie. The story was fucking terrifying and if you remember how it started you‘ll know exactly why I wanted to freak out!

RavenLovelyReads Yikes!! It‘s a beautiful sight, albeit creepy! 6y
TheNextBook @RavenLovelyReads I was freaking out! It only lasted a few seconds but I was about to go into a panic! While driving because I couldn‘t get the moment out of my head 6y

C is for Children of the Corn

I know this is kind of an obvious choice, but it was one of the first things I thought of for the letter C. This was the first horror movie I remember seeing, and it scared the living daylights out of me and my friends. We would creep each other out anytime we would walk outside at night. I think it‘s time for a rewatch (and maybe an actual read of the story). #KingAtoZ

GarthRanzz The short story is good. And the first movie isn‘t too bad, as King adaptions go. And great choice! 😊 Not as obvious as you think. C was really good for spreading around various King works. 7y
Bookladylinda I chose this one too, it was a scary movie for sure!!! 7y

C is for Children of the Corn

Found the movie poster of the original movie for Children of the Corn from 1984. I read the book and saw the movie and I remember being scared to death.

@GarthRanzz

GarthRanzz Love this one! And I just saw yet another movie was released recently. I don‘t think I ever saw more than the first one. 7y

Only a short story by Stephen King but it fits #emojinov perfectly. #🌽 #corn I'd not heard of this one but got a 3.87 rating on Goodreads and can be found in Nightshift.

Booknerd2 Have you seen the movie? Terrifying!!! 7y
Andrew65 No, I didn't even know there was a movie. 7y
Ms_T I watched the film years ago as a child and it scared me to death! Not sure it would compare to today‘s CGI blockbusters but it was terrifying at the time. 7y

Technically a short story originally published in Penthouse, this is the Stephen King story that still makes me uneasy. I also found a French movie poster for the movie calling the story Horror Kid!?! #scaredyou #stephenking17
