*Opens book, reads first two lines.*
Mind: hmm, remember the book where the couple divorced, too many characters, the kids went exploring while the parents slept in the motel…I wonder which book that was…maybe I should check on Litsy…did I finish that..it‘s been a long time since I read some Atwood..she‘s coming to the city for a talk tomorrow…didn‘t get seats…
Snaps to the present: continues reading a bit more.

Omg!! It is the same book!!! 😩😩

BiblioLitten It‘s a total bummer because it was on hold at the library, I waited all this time, rushed to the library to borrow it as soon as it became available just to realize I had already read it! 1d
Ruthiella 😂 That has happened to me before as well. Half way through a Tony Hillerman mystery, I realized that I‘d already read it! 1d

Written in verse-form, a story of an Indian-American girl on the two worlds she belongs to and how she navigates and understands that while coming to terms with her mother‘s illness.

This is probably the first time I have seen someone correct a spelling in a library book. Would you correct a spelling or a grammatical error in a library book?

I would get miffed but wouldn‘t correct it unless I owned the book.

Also, Google says that cheque is spelled check in America. Which spelling do you use? Cheque or check?

LaraReads That is a pretty strange thing to do! 🤷🏻‍♀️ And yes…American here, we use check! 2y
BiblioLitten @LaraReads In Canada we use cheque and probably they felt the need to correct it. 2y
LaraReads I get it, grammar/spelling errors drive me up the wall! But probably not marking it up unless I own it. I prefer the way most other countries spell lots of other words. Much cooler. Americans take the fun out of everything! 🤣 2y
See All 14 Comments
Lesanne I also use check, and I would never correct a book that I did not own. I probably wouldn‘t correct a book that I did own, come to think of it! 😄 2y
Megabooks Check, but I‘m American. 2y
rabbitprincess Fellow Canadian and I would not mark up a library book to make this or any correction. If I have a library book and someone‘s marked it up in pencil, I erase the markings. 2y
LeeRHarry Cheque in Australia 2y
LaraS Hah! They obv felt very strongly about the topic. 😆 I also use cheque, but I‘m also Canadian. 🤷‍♀️ I‘ve seen the occasional correction in a library book, but I also see people underline something with a few exclamation marks next to it (always in pencil). Once I saw a mini convo in the margins between multiple patrons, lol. Can‘t say I‘ve done that myself but I have left a post it note in a book or two for future patrons. 2y
LaraS I LOVE seeing other ppl‘s markup in a book. But I also know it‘s a divisive topic which is why I wouldn‘t do anything directly to a library book. I do have a couple of friends who also love marked up books, so if we lend each other books it‘s just full of all our collective scribbles (I can hear the collective horror throughout Litsy…) 😅 (edited) 2y
Susanita I pay my rent with a check 🤩 2y
Sparklemn @LaraS I'm the same. I love seeing other's scribbles. Fun to get a glimpse into a stranger's thoughts. 2y
