Bookwormjillk Lol make sure you clear your cache 9mo
BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk I‘m waiting to see what shows up on Facebook now…. #bigbrotheriswatching 9mo
TheAromaofBooks My favorite part was all the peasants just hanging out to watch 😂 Slow news day, apparently 😆 9mo
mcctrish @TheAromaofBooks and making eye contact too 👀 debating whether I want to go down rabbit holes ?! 🤣🤣 9mo
TheAromaofBooks @mcctrish - I was honestly like, “man my mom always warned me about having clean undergarments on in case I get in a car wreck and go to the hospital where people will see it - but this sounds even worse!“ 😂 9mo
mcctrish @TheAromaofBooks 🤣🤣 might need to throw in don‘t forget to get a pedicure once in awhile 9mo
BarkingMadRead @TheAromaofBooks right?!!!? I hate when mom is right 🤣 9mo
5feet.of.fury This “must I take my shirt off” business is sending me 😂 mitya and his stinky socks 🧦 9mo

SamAnne I real hate the way Fyodor talks at the reader…insufferable rants on his deep, deep thoughts. 10mo
See All 19 Comments
BarkingMadRead @SamAnne for real! Ugh! 😩 10mo
IndoorDame I totally skimmed that “poem” too 😂😂😂 and I only figured out what it actually said when I got to Alyosha‘s summary 10mo
currentlyreadinginCO Absolutely 😂😂 @IndoorDame 10mo
mcctrish Absolute bullshit! Ivan will not be invited to the Tortured Poets Society after that fail! Also Fyodor needs to keep his chapters shorter, that is too much blah 10mo
BarkingMadRead @mcctrish so much blah! 10mo
Bookwormjillk Totally skimmed it too. When I saw it was a 28 minute read I almost fell out of my chair. 10mo
Bookwormjillk The only good parts were when A interrupted to tell him his poem didn‘t make sense 10mo
Librarybelle I feel like I need a quick education on what was happening in Russia at this time. There is so much deep thought on some really heavy issues - I know it‘s a commentary on contemporary happenings, but me as a 21st century reader, and a non-Russian reader, is a little in the dark. I can only imagine how Crime and Punishment compares! 10mo
daena “Alyosha, who had listened to him all this time without saying anything, though towards the end, in a state of extreme agitation“. All I could think was same bro, same. #readtheroomivan (edited) 10mo
dabbe Me during this chapter: 😳 ... 😳 ... trying to read ... 😤 ... 😩 ... 😰 ... 🥱 ... 💤 ... wake up ... skim the mother-f---er ... 😎. In tomorrow's chapter, Ivan says this: “For so many years I was silent with the whole world and did not deign to speak, and suddenly I spewed out so much gibberish!“

Thanks, Ivan. Could you have said that BEFORE you started speaking in the last chapter? As @TheBookHippie would say, #oytothevey!
10mo
Cuilin So glad it wasn‘t written in verse, prose was bad enough!!!!! 😩 10mo
TheAromaofBooks I used to think I was bad at writing poetry... then I met Ivan 😂 10mo
Ruthiella Guys, according to my sources, this is the CRUX of the novel, the jewel in the crown, it‘s raison d‘etre…😂 10mo
currentlyreadinginCO This is the first chapter I've seen in my used edition that was heavily marked up from the previous owner! I wondered if they were reading this for school and if this may have been one of the most important chapters, and then I thought about doing some research, but then I got pulled into my actual job and forgot ... @Ruthiella 10mo
BarkingMadRead @Ruthiella I saw that! I must be broken 🤣 it made me want to commit crimes against myself 🤣 10mo
KAO I had been looking forward to this chapter, because I remember (from somewhere) that this was the most famous segment. So I really gave it my full attention—but I found it disappointing. Deep, but honestly not up to the hype, in my opinion. Can it be that I am suffering from a short attention span?? Maybe. 10mo

Pickpick

Good. Not really a Christmas book but it does have some Christmas elements to it. Full of romance and heartbreak. Told mainly through letters so it's a quick read, but it still manages to convey its powerful message of true love.

Ch 17: Willmet has tea with Piers #athisflat #andwemeetkeith 🏳️‍🌈 #howdoesshenotseeit #poorkeith check out @rwmg ‘s latest post for a glimpse at what Keith might look like! #pemberlittens #hashtagbrigade
#ps #ialmostusedapicofprofessorlupin #iwentwithkeithsroominstead #vangogh #irises

IndoorDame I was betting that‘s who Piers lived with, but I‘m not surprised she‘s oblivious. She lives in such a separate world, and in the 50s I think it really might not occur to her. 12mo
See All 31 Comments
rwmg I'm not sure what Wilmet is more taken aback by, that Keith is a man or that he is “common“. And if this is her being protective and maternal, I'd hate to get on her bad side. 12mo
AnnR I was looking at @rwmg 's post and thinking, I wouldn't want to have been part of that social circle. The snooty ones judge the 'common' ones. Just horribly pretentious. 12mo
BarkingMadRead @AnnR so pretentious! I am not a fan! 12mo
peanutnine @AnnR and the fact that she gets upset when he calls her out on it 🙄 12mo
AnnR @BarkingMadRead - I think the pretentiousness is why I'm having issues connecting with the characters and the book overall. It's hard to feel emotionally caught up in any of their circumstances or cheer anyone on. (edited) 12mo
BarkingMadRead @AnnR the fact that‘s it‘s fluffy is its saving grace right now 🤣 #tessptsd 12mo
Bookwormjillk I hope this ends with everyone but Wil in Portugal living their best lives while Wil stays at home looking at her trees realizing she‘s not the main character in everyone else‘s life. 12mo
AnnR @barkingmadread 👍😬😁 Fluffy! Perfect description. 12mo
Cuilin You know, Wilmet could have reacted a lot worse. This was a time of major social change, and yet Piers is still living a life of risk. This was a time when someone as heroic as Alan Turing could be arrested for “gross indecency”. If we look at Wilmet through our modern eyes, we can hold her in contempt, but for that time I think she‘s doing really well. 12mo
Cuilin @Bookwormjillk she may be the main character in this novel, but not in their lives!!! 12mo
BarkingMadRead @Cuilin oh for sure, secrecy was key. I feel like Piers wants her to know but also doesn‘t want to tell her 12mo
Cuilin @BarkingMadRead @AnnR you know for all the snobby and snootiness the novel‘s redeeming quality for me is the fact that it completely lacks hustle culture. I‘m loving it‘s fluffy gentleness. 12mo
TheBookHippie @Cuilin I agree for the times it‘s pretty good. And for some being common was lower than 🏳️‍🌈 which is another conversation. I also agree the no hustle. As for pretentious it‘s how it was it wouldn‘t seem unusual to us. Wait until people see how hateful our time we are living in now. 😳 12mo
TheBookHippie Love the fluff still getting over Tess.. oy 12mo
Cuilin @TheBookHippie 💯 (edited) 12mo
Cuilin @BarkingMadRead this is why I like Wilmet, because he knows that his secret is safe with her. Under all that upper class pretentiousness she‘s actually a decent sort. 12mo
AnneCecilie I‘m not surprised at all that Wilmet was surprised at Piers “colleague”, she has after all met Piers colleagues at the press. Keith and the colleagues at the press are probably very different. (edited) 12mo
dabbe @Cuilin Proven by the fact that she states she feels matronly/motherly over Keith. She seems worried about him--even more than Piers. 12mo
rwmg @Cuilin @BarkingMadRead Yes, Piers was taking a big risk letting Wilmet into his life that much. Both Piers and Keith could go to prison. It was only the year before “A Glass of Blessings“ that the Wolfenden Report recommended the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality and it wasn't till 1967 that it actually happened. 12mo
Bklover @Cuilin At the end of the chapter when she went to bed I actually felt sorry for her. 12mo
rubyslippersreads I have “the novels of Miss Goudge” on my shelf, so I don‘t know what that says about me. 😂 12mo
Cuilin @rwmg exactly. I‘m always surprised that it took till ‘67 for it to be decriminalized. 12mo
Cuilin @Bklover she needs a purpose of her own. Bit of a lost soul is our Wilmet. 12mo
Cuilin @rubyslippersreads lol. I thought it was really weird when she said she couldn‘t be bothered looking at their books. That‘s the first thing I do when I go into somebody‘s house. Lol 12mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Cuilin I always look at people's books! 12mo
rubyslippersreads @Cuilin @Crinoline_Laphroaig The worst is when they—gasp—don‘t have any books! 😳 12mo
ravenlee It seems Wilmet cares a whole lot more that Piers isn‘t hopelessly in love with her and trying to seduce her than that he has a “roommate.” She might not have a problem with him being gay but she‘s disappointed and insulted that he doesn‘t want to have an affair with her. 12mo

Crinoline_Laphroaig Y'all I'm gonna Bail on this one. I'm struggling to get into it. I have a very limited amount of time to read this month. So going to concentrate on things I really want to read. I do want to join in with Nov read 1y
julieclair I continue to be disappointed with the way the English people behave. Adela and Mrs. Moore are the only women being friendly. They are good role models, if only the other women would follow their example. 1y

Ruthiella With so many unspoken rules on both sides which neither side fully understands, it was bound to fail. 😕 1y
Morr_Books I like Mrs. Moore & Adela right now more than any other characters. Also - the comment about using religion when it suits their purpose was interesting and relevant in most of history. 1y
TheAromaofBooks Oh hey, I am reading this one but think I may have fallen off the tag list!! 1y
dabbe My husband is currently reading a book entitled AMERICAN COLONIES. Getting the exact same vibes with this one. Let the white man dominate and “civilize“ those darker-skinned people. Yikes. 😬 1y
TheBookHippie GADS I feel behind- it's a little nutty here. I will catch up soon! This is a reread for me thank goodness just have to refresh my old brain!! 1y
mcctrish Here I am slowly getting caught up, back to school is kicking my butt. I loved that Mrs Turdball‘s English is actually understood #sheisdispicable and Adela and Mrs Moore are making acquaintances 👏🏻👏🏻 1y

ravenlee But why is Celia so awful too? Do she and Rosy share a brain, so if Rosy is using all of the will and stubbornness then Celia has to be a doormat? I mean, I think James is being a jerk, but Celia encouraging it…ugh. Everyone sucks. 2y
Addison_Reads @ravenlee "everyone sucks" describes how I've felt through most of this book. ? 2y

Love the father-daughter dynamic in this book. #Adorable #PS I Still Love You
