#petpeeve
This title has not existed since 1707….

julesG Understandable pet peeve, but, I suppose, the general American reader just knows this term. 6d
Ruthiella Yes, I would use it. I did not know it was wrong? So Queen Anne was the last Queen of England? 🤔 (edited) 6d
TrishB @julesG I know it just jars when I see it. I‘m not even a monarchist. 6d

TrishB @Ruthiella I‘m being very pedantic and fussy! Following the Acts of Union in 1707 it became an obsolete title. Anne was the last to have it. But I know people still use it all the time and don‘t realise the difference. 6d
Ruthiella @TrishB I love pedantic and fussy! 😂 6d
BarbaraBB So what should we call Kate in a few years? I‘m no monarchist either but am interested! 6d
TrishB @BarbaraBB Kate will be Queen Consort as it‘s not her title it‘s her husbands 🤷‍♀️ 6d
CSeydel I didn‘t know either! So what was Elizabeth Queen of all those years? 6d
TrishB @CSeydel the United Kingdom (and various Commonwealth realms). 6d
CSeydel Oh I see - that makes sense, of course 6d
BarbaraBB That makes sense indeed 🤦🏻‍♀️ 5d

The novella was slightly better than the first book.

julesG The cover should have been a huge giveaway - name of author larger than title of book. 🙈🙈🙈 #petpeeve 1y
TheSpineView Disappointing. Hope the next one is better 1y

ChaoticMissAdventures There is no other line in literature used as often and that sticks out so much. Every time I read it my brain goes "Ah, there it is" ? 2y
Susanita That bugs me too! Also: Someone was screaming. She realized it was her. 2y
Ruthiella Totally. Drives me nuts! 🛑🙈 2y
BookmarkTavern Oh yes! Thanks for answering! 2y
BiblioLitten 😂 it‘s used so often! 2y

Pickpick

Sally adores her beautiful, fun older sister Kathy & Kathy's popular basketball-star boyfriend. But when a teenage Kathy dies suddenly, Sally's world is destroyed. A story about coming of age amidst grief & how it twists and stunts people, relationships, & families. It's also about finding a life in spite of loss.
A soft pick. I was interested at times but it also got bogged down by minutiae. I agree with @Megabooks that it is just too long!

Ruthiella Bummer! Especially when there are so many stronger contenders to choose from. 2y

Hooked_on_books I‘ve gone back and forth on this one since it published, just not sure if I wanted to read it or not. I‘ll give it a try, but my expectations are terribly high. 2y
BarbaraBB This‘ll be my next shortlist book, I‘ll temper my expectations! 2y
Jas16 I just finished this one too and agree that it was too long. 2y
sarahbarnes Great review - if I decide to read it I will keep this in mind! 2y
Cinfhen I was and am looking forward to this one but the poor editing will definitely be an issue for me!!! I found too many books are unnecessarily long!!! #petpeeve 2y
Megabooks This is one of my least favorites in the #tob. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ and agree that it was entirely too long!! (edited) 2y
merelybookish @Ruthiella Yes, it's not bad but also not great. Or weird. I can stand behind weird. 2y
merelybookish @Hooked_on_books It's a perfectly fine book. It's just not an exciting book. But maybe it will exceed your expectations. 2y
merelybookish @Jas16 Yes, could slash 50 pages. Easy! 2y
merelybookish @sarahbarnes Thanks! I wonder if you might connect with it more than I did. 2y
merelybookish @Cinfhen 💯 So many books need a ruthless editor! 2y
merelybookish @Megabooks I think if it had been tightened, it would have been more effective. There's good material there...but it's diluted. 2y

Woo hoo! I finished three books that had been weighing me down for weeks (Perseus was good, just emotionally exhausting), read 4 graphic novels, bailed on a book for #readingafrica2022, read a great picture book and a middle grade travesty, and I will finish Moon of the Crusted Snow today. Daisy Darker is okay so far, but I‘ve already lost patience with the idiot MC in The Favor. If it wasn‘t a NetGalley book, I‘d bail. #bookreport

Cinfhen Idiot MC‘s are definitely a #petpeeve 😫 2y

#UpNext I‘m already LOVING this memoir/ history ♥️🎧✡️ #JewishLit #NonfictionNovember

jlhammar I have this waiting on my shelves. Looking forward to it! 2y
Cinfhen Im not really sure how this book ended up on my radar @jlhammar and while I loved the beginning it‘s starting to drag a bit - I feel like a big chunk of the middle is filler, which is a #petpeeve of mine - I‘ll keep u posted 2y

#PetPeeve #MultiPOVthrillerSingleMonotoneReader 😬🙄This book is really good but I‘m having such a hard time figuring out who‘s POV I‘m listening to🎧Helen married is 24 weeks pregnant when she meets Rachel a single pregnant woman at a prenatal class. But Rachel isn‘t quite what seems-

TheAromaofBooks I often think that a book should be multiple 3rd-person POV instead of a bunch of 1st-person that sound way too similar. If I have to flip back to the beginning of a section to remember whose POV I'm reading, they don't sound different enough to justify it!! 2y
Cinfhen It‘s frustrating because the book is really good but the audio publisher really messed up by hiring ONLY one reader for the multiple POV chapters- @TheAromaofBooks 2y
Megabooks This is a pet peeve of mine too!! 👯‍♀️ 2y

Mehso-so

Total mind**** for me!

This book takes major scientific discoveries and fictionalizes some stories about their founders. That said, I have done enough science reading over the years to know that some of the more outlandish stories are actually TRUE. So this book had me connecting and processing until I went mad. Perhaps someone coming in cold would enjoy it more. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Interesting but VERY frustrating.

The #audiobook narration is great!

Megabooks I think I‘m forgetting to tag someone. If so, I‘m sorry!! 3y
Ruthiella I don‘t have your science background but suspect I‘m going to be googling a lot! 😆 Great review! 3y
squirrelbrain I definitely don‘t have a science background, but actually I let the really science-y stuff just go over my head. @Ruthiella 3y

Cinfhen Curious how I‘ll respond to this book, since I have zero scientific background but I HATE when fiction and NF is blurred. Distortion is a #PetPeeve 3y
sarahbarnes Crazy! Great review. I‘m on the list for this one at the library, and as a total non-science person it will be interesting to see how it reads. 3y
BarbaraBB I‘m a non-science person too and curious how I‘ll think of this book. Thanks for the honest review 🤍 3y
Megabooks @Cinfhen the first section “Prussian Blue” is about the guy who invented nitrogen collection from the atmosphere, BUT he also invented chlorine gas (this is true). Anyway, it has fairly graphic descriptions of Jewish people dying in gas chambers. Just wanted to let you know as far as a CW. It‘s not in any other place besides that section. 💜 I‘m interested to see what you think, especially since you also hate distortion!! (edited) 3y
Megabooks @Ruthiella it may spark you to find out the truth about these discoveries, but you can just let the most science-y parts go like @squirrelbrain said. There are some REAL wacky stories about science, which is definitely cool! 3y
Megabooks @sarahbarnes @BarbaraBB thanks! I‘m really curious to see what the non-science readers have to say for sure! 3y
Cinfhen The audio is available on #Hoopla @sarahbarnes in case you have that library service!! Thanks for the heads up, Meg. It‘s a short listen so I think I‘ll add it to my #WeeklyForecast ❤️ 3y
Megabooks @Cinfhen cool!! Really curious to see what you think!! I should‘ve checked hoopla before I bought it, but you know I‘m not a hoopla fan! I listen at 2.25 and that‘s not an option on hoopla. 👎🏻👎🏻 3y
Cinfhen Just as a heads up @Megabooks Hoopla now offers a custom speed setting and it goes up to 4.0 😘 3y
Megabooks @Cinfhen finally!!! Now if they‘d only put chapters in their back catalogue! Or have they done that too? 3y
sarahbarnes Thanks @Cinfhen! I wish I was better at books on audio. I apparently don‘t have an attention span for it - I get distracted and realize I missed the last five minutes of what was playing. 😂 3y
Cinfhen Chapters are back, too!!! Or at least they are in some of the last few I listened too!!! 3y
Megabooks @Cinfhen yayayay!! I‘ll definitely check it out. It‘ll save me some 💰 3y
Mindyrecycles Not my cup of tea. 😬 3y
Megabooks @Mindyrecycles it was weird AF for sure! 3y

I started making a #DecemberChill playlist but then I remembered New Found Glory‘s new Christmas album just came out today and it‘s perfection 👌 Also Spotify rudely removed the 1998 Tooth and Nail Happy Christmas compilation so I couldn‘t add one of my favorites which is Five Iron Frenzy‘s cover of You Gotta Get Up by Rich Mullins. #MusicalMatters

https://youtu.be/7MqOui0znuM

Cinfhen I‘m excited to listen to this playlist 🎵even though I‘m Jewish, I enjoy Christmas music…..but not in October #petpeeve 😉💚♥️💚 3y
