#ToB26

One of my most anticipated moments each year: the #ToB longlist. I‘ve been deep diving almost all day and I have read 11, I own 12 to be read on my shelves and am about to buy another load… please help me prevent this and tell me what book or books I should absolutely get and what books I can skip 😀

Hah! I had no idea ToB did a Horror Popup mini tournament this October. Did anyone follow along? It could be fun to pit these against each other, and I cringe to admit I‘ve never even read the tagged. Maybe they‘ll do it again next year! 🎃

I don‘t think I‘ll participate (too many books too little time) but I do love that tob is alive and kicking and can‘t wait for them to follow up with the #ToB26 longlist!

I added all my unread books to the #ISpy overview in Storygraph. In the bingo you see the ones that fit a March prompt of which I actually read just one 🤦🏻‍♀️ I hope and expect to tick off some more books during the year!

In the end I‘m glad I read it but it wasn‘t a home run for me.

Ok I probably posted that last blurb about 50 pages too early. I related to and had empathy for George in his late teens early 20s. George in his late 20s early 30s is much harder to stomach 🙄

I gotta say, I read a lot of reviews about how much everyone hated George and I‘m 130 pages in and I have empathy for him. He‘s pretty oblivious and careless of others but it‘s a story and a perspective I haven‘t spent a lot of time with in books and that makes it worth telling. I‘m glad I decided to give the book a chance.

1) #ToB goodies.
2) Solar-powered cats.
3) A hike with beautiful views and a chance to identify poison oak without touching it.
4) Climbing 489 "secret" stairs with a friend.
5) Looong shadows on an evening walk.

This follows George through his life, he‘s a likeable child, his uni years are good too. You like George, it‘s a great audio book. Adulthood hits and there is this undercurrent to George, and I am not liking him so much. He isn‘t mean, but he‘s thoughtless. I am raging at my audio book. FFS George, get it together
It‘s well written. I enjoyed it when I wasn‘t raging 😂😂

I'm really enjoying this year's #ToB! I got myself a mug to commemorate finishing the whole shortlist (as I did in 2023). Today's decision and commentary---between Liars and The Book of George---are particularly interesting, and I enjoyed reading them while enjoying decaf from my official mug.
