Very reminiscent of Brain on Fire, a neuroscientist has brain tumors that lead to physical deficits and behavioral changes. She recovers, remembers all of it, and writes her experiences. Fascinating to me that she remained very physically active throughout her illness, even during radiation and chemo treatments. 3/5🧠s

Kelican17 @wife we should really start keeping track of books we both love. It would be a short list 😂 5y
Wife @Kelican17 Did that family not exercise, hike, ski, swim, run, marathon, Ironman excessively? And she made dinner every night. And when working, biked 20 miles one way. How did they find time? WTH?🤨 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️⛷⛷🏊‍♂️🏊‍♂️ 5y
Kelican17 @Wife i have no idea. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y

This story was extraordinary. Made even more interesting by the fact that the author is an expert on brains and mental illness- and she began to experienced symptoms of mental illness- and then could remember and EXPLAIN to the reader what was going on in her body!!! I mean, whoa. The epilogue almost got me 😥😥

Wife You seem to be getting into NF lately. This one sounds good. Scribd?💚 6y

Interesting story of a woman who had brain cancer, struggles with insanity and was able to fight through and gain her memories back.

This was 4 🌟 for me. Incredible true story underscoring how fascinating is the human brain. This was a free Amazon prime read

JennyM I enjoyed this too. It was pretty scary what happened to her. 6y

Startlingly well-written & easy to sink into. Lipska's situation reminded me of Brain on Fire, though Lipska knew the cause her short-term mental incapacity. The most disconcerting part of her story is how she'd already survived breast cancer & skin cancer by age 64 when it metastasized to her brain. I so adored that she chose to tell her story & did such a good job placing the reader in her emotions & confusion/frustration as she lost her mind.

I‘m having surgery in a couple of weeks so will need plenty to read....any recommendations gratefully received...(cat picture just because he‘s cute)

jpmcwisemorgan I don‘t have a specific recommendation but I would suggest a mix of books. If it were me, I‘d have a comfort read, something from a favorite author that may even be a re-read. I‘d also have some novellas and/or a short story anthology at hand. A lot will depend on how you feel so having shorter reads might be good. 6y
TrishB Any particular genre? I‘m having surgery tomorrow and hoping to read a few off my tbr the next couple of weeks! 6y
jpmcwisemorgan I hope your surgery goes well. 6y

jpmcwisemorgan @TrishB I hope your surgery goes well too! 6y
Cspen113 I always suggest my favorites - The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, oldie but goodie Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. Best wishes on the surgery and recovery!! 6y
Lel2403 @TrishB I like most genres other than romance....ugh....I thought it may give me an excuse to try something out of my usual. Hope your surgery goes well too xx 6y
Lel2403 @jpmcwisemorgan I may just fall back on Harry Potter, as they are my comfort reads 6y
Lel2403 @Cspen113 thank you 6y
TrishB I‘m just going to plough through my tbr (I hope!) hope yours goes well. Fingers crossed for us 🤞🏻 6y
RidgewayGirl I had surgery a few weeks ago and looked forward to my reading vacation, however for the first few days, my brain was still groggy. So have a few undemanding novels at hand. Good luck and my your recovery be quick! 6y

jenreads7 I hope everything goes well and you recover quickly! I love Harry Potter too! I also enjoy The Chronicles of Narnia, and Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier is wonderful. The Help is a great read/listen too. 6y
llwheeler Best wishes, hope it goes well 6y
Lel2403 @jenniferajanes lovely, some really good comfort reads here x 6y
TheBookAddict I hope your surgery goes well. One of my recent favorites is the first in a series that is a good historical fiction based on a true story (somewhat), 6y
Lel2403 @TheBookAddict thank you, I‘ll have a look at that 💕 6y
TheBookAddict And every chance I get I have to recommended this one 6y
TheBookAddict @Lel2403 you‘re welcome. 🙂 6y

rockpools Hope it all goes well. Have you read Steve Cavanagh? I'm sure you've read ALL the thrillers already, but it was a fab twisty read if not. 6y
rockpools Otherwise this is more of a cozy, set in Singapore - I'm enjoying it! (And I agree re Trevor Noah- it's a fab read!) 6y

Redwritinghood Good luck with your surgery. Are you looking for something light and fluffy that you can read quickly or something long and immersive? 6y
Lel2403 @Redwritinghood thank you and long and immersive definitely 6y

CarolynM Hope the surgery goes well and you have a quick recovery. I'd recommend anything by Elizabeth Peters, especially 6y
Lel2403 @CarolynM thank you, I‘ve not heard of this before..will look for it x 6y
Mrsann2000 Sending prayers for all involved with surgery for a positive outcome. My hubby was diagnosed with melanoma 3 years ago and he/we have been through a lot. C-free today! Some of my best reading was in doctor office, waiting rooms, and travel to hospitals. Have you found your pick yet? 6y
Lel2403 @Mrsann2000 I‘m so glad he beat it....it‘s a horrible disease and mines not curable but my immunotherapy drugs are keeping it stable, apart from one area, which they are removing in 11 days . Harry Potter audio for the hospital stay, then I‘ve a few to choose for the recovery 💕💕 6y
Mrsann2000 @Lel2403 💜💜💜💜💜 you‘ll be in my thoughts and prayers 6y
rwmg I hope the op goes well. All the best. 6y
