Lady Susan | Jane Austen
post image

April is getting away from me fast… it‘s time to start planning our May/June #PemberLittens buddy reads!

Lady Susan is a short (80ish pages in my book) epistolary novel, consisting of 41 letters and a brief conclusion. I‘m happy to lead a readalong, but I think one letter a day will be impossible, even though I‘ve read it. 😂

Thoughts? 1, 2, 4 letters per day? Something else entirely? For comparison, @SerialReader divides it into 10 sections.⬇️

sprainedbrain Tagging those who previously expressed interest in reading this book, but ALL are welcome. Please let me know if you want to be added to the Lady Susan tag list. 😘 3y
Librarybelle Maybe follow what SerialReader does??? That would seem like a good measure. Whatever way is decided, I‘m still in for this #buddyread ! 3y

AllDebooks I'm in, never read this. Happy to go with the flow on how we read it 3y
sprainedbrain @Librarybelle I was leaning that way! 3y
BarkingMadRead I haven‘t read it yet, should we do 2 a day? Or 3? I‘m good with whatever 3y
Chili I‘m in 3y
MicrobeMom I am in no matter the choice. But so think 2-3 per day would be good. (edited) 3y
MoonWitch94 2-3 a day seems like a decent pace. But I‘m in no matter what! 3y
ravenlee I‘m in for this as well! Never read any of this month‘s picks, so I‘m really excited. I agree with 2-3 per day, or however it works best. 3y
batsy Thank you for organising! I'm fine with going the Serial Reader way, too—feels like it might be helpful for you to be able to schedule it in those specific sections? 🙂 3y
Ruthiella For me, more is better. It‘s difficult to read only one chapter a day. 3y
staci.reads I'm good with whatever you decide, but yes, after looking at it, it seems like a few letters a day would be best. 3y
quietjenn Serial Reader is good I initially read this, so that way would work for me 😄 3y
Crinoline_Laphroaig I read for my April #ayearofjaneausten so I'll be joining in for the discussion, so whatever is good for me. 3y
MeganAnn I‘m in since this one is short. I like the idea of matching serial reader as 10 days seems like a nice amount of time for this. Especially if the other two books end up being chapter a day reads a I found it hard to keep up with three books at a time. 3y
DivineDiana I am way behind with April‘s read. Since this is short, I should be able to complete this one. I‘m thinking the same as @BarkingMadRun 🙂 3y
mollyrotondo I‘m in!!! 3y
eeclayton @MeganAnn I second that! 3y
Blackink_WhitePaper I m in please tag me 💐 3y
megnews Please add me. I like the Serial Reader idea. 3y
julieclair I'm leaning towards the Serial Reader plan, but 2-3 per day works too. Really, whichever format works best for you as the leader would get my vote. 🗳️ 3y
TheAromaofBooks I'm fine with whatever works best for everyone else... if I get too carried away I'll just finish it all in one big gulp anyway 😂 3y
StolenBookmobile 2-3 per day is fine with me 3y
StolenBookmobile Just saw the update, haha. Looks good. 3y

Thank you to the 38 #PemberLittens that voted for our May/June books!

With 16 votes, Lady Susan will be out Jane Austen work. I haven‘t read this for years and will love to pick it up again.

Our book about Jane is Lucy Worsley‘s Jane Austen At Home, with 6 votes. It‘s been on my tbr forever.

And, with 7 votes, our book by another female author will be The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Brontë, another I‘ve read and loved.

Everyone welcome! ⬇️

sprainedbrain Please comment your ideas about buddy reads, which ones you plan to read, and if you want to lead discussion for any. As always, let me know which books you‘d like to be tagged for. Thank you! ❤️ 3y

Sanditon | Jane Austen

Pickpick

My March #ayearofjaneausten read was Volume 3 Julvenalia. Quite the juxtaposition reading Sanditon immediately after. You could definitely see her growth as a writer and brilliance of what could have been. 📖 🧗‍♀️😔

Pickpick

While I was planning on rereading Sanditon in December a part of my #ayearofjaneausten. I couldn't resist joining in with #PemberLittens @sprainedbrain Readalong. Mostly I listened to the 12 Chapters on Audible. Really liked the narration of this edition by Emila Fox. This pick is for audiobook. Tomorrow I'll post something about story.

#PemberLittens @jenniferw88 I found a wrong statement in the tagged #BuddyRead:
'... it's possible to read everything she wrote: Six completed Novels, three unfinished ones, three volumes of juvenilia...'

It's 7 Completed, 2 Uncompleted (The Watsons & Sanditon). I think writer considered Lady Susan as Uncompleted when it's actually Completed just Not Published.

Anyhow it has me planning a Yearlong Read of everything. 🤓

#ayearofjaneausten

Crinoline_Laphroaig Which I guess is small mistake, it took me a minute of Google to figure out and going to my completed Novels to find it. But these are supposedly learned people writing these essays. 3y
jenniferw88 Well spotted! 3y
suvata Nice catch 3y
ravenlee There‘s also an error in the Watt essay about Elinor reproving Marianne about accepting the horse from Willoughby. Marianne‘s response is to a different reproof - Elinor‘s censure over Marianne accompanying Willoughby to Mrs. Smith‘s house without chaperone or proper acquaintance with the lady. Which I also just posted about! (edited) 3y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @ravenlee I talked about how I didn't like the pretentious of some the Essays in another post with @mollyrotondo. I think #PemberLittens could match wits with some of these 'Scholars'. 3y
