My #Blitsy swap arrived today. Looking forward to opening day.

Thanks to @tdrosebud for gifting me the tagged book in the #WinterSolsticeSwap. I loved it. Thanks to @Chrissyreadit @AmandaBlaze and @Andrew65 for the positive comments that moved it to the top. I‘m looking forward to the rest of the series.

I never know what to do with a book that I overall really enjoyed but that has one HUGE problem. I'm going with pick because I'm planning to read more of this series and did enjoy the majority of this book quite a lot - but with a big caveat because there is one plot point that just blew my mind with its wrongness (I'll spoiler it in a comment). On the whole, this had fun banter, not just between the main characters, but with the whole family of ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) siblings (and their mom!). I love happy sibling groups in books, this one just delighted me in that way, although I did feel like Daphne's brothers were a bit over-the-top at various points in the book. Like, I get it. They're protective. Geezy. This one is a little steamier than my personal preference, but to each their own. It's not going to win any awards for groundbreaking thoughtfulness, but if you're just looking for some fun fluff⬇ 3y

TheAromaofBooks So literally Simon doesn't want children because of various reasons involving the terrible treatment he received from his father growing up. I get Daphne being upset when she found out Simon had lied to her about won't vs can't have children, and definitely think that discussions needed to be had. But the scene where she literally rapes him while he's intoxicated just - what the hell?? I can't even imagine that scene being written the other way ⬇ 3y

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) around - can you imagine writing a scene about a woman who doesn't want to have children because of her own childhood trauma, so her husband waits until she's drunk and then forces her to take his seed in hopes of impregnating her?! And it's NEVER ADDRESSED. Daphne NEVER apologizes or even feels remorseful, she's just like “I did what I had to do to try and get a child“ Are you freaking kidding me?! it honestly ruined my good feelings ⬇ 3y

I think it could have been really beautiful if she had done the opposite, purposefully refrained from putting him that position, letting him know that their marriage/relationship is important enough to her that she's willing to wait & work through this issue. Instead, I can't believe he would ever trust her again. 3y

coffees @TheAromaofBooks i started reading this bc it blew up but I only got about 1/2 way in bc 1) do i really want to read steamy at work and 2) I'd heard about what you mentioned in spoilers and was like do I really want to read that, and it never came up until way after when book ppl i knew started mentioning it so I'm like hmmm 3y

EclecticBookLover I read the entire series when I was in high school and had read many other "old school romances" where rape & other nonconsensual actions took place (many from the 90s) so this never seemed out of tge norm of what I read. However, since the show and re weed interest I re-read the first book and was very surprised by Daphne's behavior. Continued 3y

EclecticBookLover The Bridgertons are wonderful and I don't recall any other similar scenes. I just finished Viscount & liked it even more nearly 20 years after I first read it. 3y

Laughterhp I think that is why I haven‘t picked up this romance yet. I haven‘t watched the show either, but I heard about the scene you put in the spoiler and I just don‘t want to put myself through that. 3y

TheAromaofBooks @ferskner - It just felt like it was such a great opportunity to have a scene where Daphne proves to Simon that she really does love him for who he is and that she's genuinely willing to work through this hard situation with him... and instead she uses him horribly and then we're just supposed to accept that everyone is fine with it. I enjoyed the rest of the book so much and it felt like that just came out of left field. 3y
