Low pick for me. I have liked other books by Donnelly quite a bit and was a little disappointed in the writing style. I LOVE Beauty and the Beast and retellings- so was a excited to read a gender swapped version. I also liked the premise. I just was not pulled in and found it to be a little boring. Clara, Axel, and Hennie head into The Forest Grimm to find their lost villagers and a missing grimoire. They find much more. Some of the villagers have become fairy tale archetypes like Cinderella and Rapunzel. I like that Clara had a disability (scoliosis), yet still manages to achieve her goals. However, the reader is beat over the head about her back issues with every tumble she takes. The romance was sweet and of a PG13 variety. 4 stars.

I‘m pretty sure I read this as a teen but I just can‘t get into it now - I hate the writing style. Accepting that it‘s a BAIL because it‘s been more than a month since I picked it up. (I ended up reading a short story to meet the prompt instead) #fairytalereadingchallenge : January: Snow White & Rose Red

I will only say the ending was a touch anticlimactic but otherwise it was a good read. Very creative and enjoyable I liked this take on the sleeping beauty story. First book I've finished in a while, I feel proud of myself even if it was just a novella.
