Code of the Woosters
Code of the Woosters | P G Wodehouse
Follow the adventures of Bertie Wooster and his gentleman s gentleman, Jeeves, in this stunning new edition of one of the greatest comic novels in the English language. When Aunt Dahlia demands that Bertie Wooster help her dupe an antique dealer into selling her an 18th-century cow-creamer. Dahlia trumps Bertie's objections by threatening to sever his standing invitation to her house for lunch, an unthinkable prospect given Bertie's devotion to the cooking of her chef, Anatole. A web of complications grows as Bertie's pal Gussie Fink-Nottle asks for counseling in the matter of his impending marriage to Madeline Bassett. It seems Madeline isn't his only interest; Gussie also wants to study the effects of a full moon on the love life of newts. Added to the cast of eccentrics are Roderick Spode, leader of a fascist organization called the Saviors of Britain, who also wants that cow-creamer, and an unusual man of the cloth known as Rev. H. P. "Stinker" Pinker. As usual, butler Jeeves becomes a focal point for all the plots and ploys of these characters, and in the end only his cleverness can rescue Bertie from being arrested, lynched, and engaged by mistake!"

The last two rounds of #LMPBC I've read some happy, lighthearted fiction with the same group. We're continuing on as our own thing because we're enjoying it so much, so I decided I would see if there was interest in a second group!! Basically low-angst, no sex/violence - just some happy fluff along the lines of Wodehouse, Heyer, Nesbit, etc. There are also plenty of other slots open if another type of book tickles your fancy!!

IndoorDame I‘m in, that sounds lovely and relaxing! Woodhouse and Heyer are both high on my TBR. 2y
TheAromaofBooks @IndoorDame - Yay!! Lately I've been very much into low-stress reading 😂 2y

13-9 Jul 2022 (audiobook)
Admittedly, these books are blending into each other quite a bit, but in a very enjoyable way. I feel as though I am now quite familiar with Bertie, Jeeves et al and their machinations. And am going to be a little lost when my 60+ hours with them comes to an end. Wodehouse is an author I would have no difficulty recommending via audio - his writing translates perfectly to this medium.

The Code of the Woosters is “never let a pal down” and somehow Bertie always gets dragged into his friends problems. Thankfully Jeeves is there to fix things when it all goes wrong.

My July #bookspin book and another spot for #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks

1. At this point, my husband & I are both working “essential“ jobs (technically, although they both feel like a stretch 🙄), and we are homebodies under normal circumstances so... basically the same because my life hasn't actually changed hardly at all lol
2. P.G. Wodehouse for the win!! Also love revisiting old favorites, and sometimes binge-read terrible Pride & Prejudice variations on Kindle Unlimited haha

TheSpineView Thanks for playing! 🤩 5y

TheAromaofBooks @Aims42 - I feel awkward because everyone is going on about how drastically different their lives are, but other than it being more difficult than usual to buy bread and canned beans, I haven't noticed much difference haha 5y

Aims42 @TheAromaofBooks Haha! That sums it up for us too, I‘m cooking more which kinda stinks, but we‘re marching on 5y
TheAromaofBooks @Aims42 - cooking is always my Waterloo, so that's still the same too 😂 5y
Aims42 @TheAromaofBooks Lol!! Meal planning for me always ended on Thursday because that would be leftovers and then Friday & Saturday we‘d eat out. Now to plan meals and grocery shop for a full week?! I am so ill equipped 🤣 5y
TheAromaofBooks @Aims42 - true story! I really need to up my meal-planning game. The weeks that I sit down & take a few minutes to figure it out ahead of time, everything is so much lower stress! I think the reason I don't always do it is because I think “it's just 2 of us - how hard can it be to just make something every night?“ - except it IS! LOL Are you not able to do any kind of carry-out where you are? All dine-in is closed, but drive-thrus are open here. 5y
Aims42 @TheAromaofBooks It is hard with 2 people, I feel like it shouldn‘t be, but it is LOL 🤣 We thankfully do have carry-out/drive thru options available still (I‘m in suburbs of Chicago), so I may still break down by Thursday and pick up dinner on my way home from work 😉 🤫 5y
TheAromaofBooks @Aims42 - my sister brought us Chipotle last night and I was way too excited 😂 5y

Thanks for the tag @wanderinglynn!!!

1. Wodehouse is so funny & also so clever. The tagged one is an absolute must-read for literally everyone. Also love to reread old favorites - like visiting an old friend.
2. I don't know why, but the Oceans movies (Eleven, Twelve, Thirteen) have become my comfort movies!
3. I tend to go old school. Dick Van Dyke Show, Sanford & Son, Hogan's Heroes, etc. Also have a huge soft spot for Psych.
4. Writing, ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd), crocheting, journaling, planning what I'm going to read, journaling about what I've already read, looking for new reading challenges so I can put them in my journal, reorganizing my TBR, reorganizing my physical bookshelves, checking to see if my favorite authors are going to publish anything new soon, etc. Also hiking and, lately, playing Stardew Valley. I have many interests. 😂

TheAromaofBooks @NeedsMoreBooks - I don't know why, but they have become my go-to movies whenever I feel sad or when I'm sick. The dialogue is so funny and I love all the friendships between the characters. They just don't get old for me! 5y

Well, @Lizpixie it has taken me a while to create my entry for your lovely #LizPixies3x3Giveaway because I have had trouble narrowing down to three genres, much less three books! ? But here are three I love. I read a lot of what I call practical nonfiction - love learning how to actually do/make things. Wodehouse is basically his own genre, something like "overbearing aunt humor." And I do love romance that doesn't take itself too seriously. ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks Thank you again for the giveaway, and congratulations on reaching 300,000!!! 5y

TheAromaofBooks @BookishMe - Right?? I have so much love for his books!!! 5y
TheAromaofBooks @ImperfectCJ - I have a big soft spot for Storey Publishers in general. Backyard Homestead is one of the first of their books I ever purchased, and I was hooked, even if I can't use all the info due to space constraints!! I have loads of their vegetable gardening books, too. 5y
ImperfectCJ @TheAromaofBooks I like their books, too. I've had Carrots Love Tomatoes for several years, and I recently bought (tagged) for our patio garden hoping to grow more edibles and maybe some recall-proof romaine lettuce. I have never had much luck growing lettuce. *Sigh* 5y
TheAromaofBooks @ImperfectCJ - I've had to try different lettuces to find ones that work for me - I don't have very good luck with “head“ types, but the leaf types usually work for me as long as I keep them out of the beating sun. Some veggies are just easier for some people - I've been told carrots are the easiest things to grow, and I have terrible luck with them!! 5y

What can I say? This is utter froth and foolishness from start to finish and, as such, was the perfect pick-me-up.

Some have noted that Bertie is misogynistic. He does indeed make disparaging remarks about the women in the book but then he makes disparaging remarks about pretty much everyone: the one person to bask in his unalloyed approval is Jeeves.

quietlycuriouskate P.S. if only Jeeves could sort out this damned Brexit fiasco! All we've got is Jacob Rees Mogg, who might well look the part but whose schemes, as far as I can tell, seek only to further the interests of Jacob Rees Mogg. Somehow I don't think *his* motto is Service. 6y
Moray_Reads @kathedron Jacob Rees Mogg is such a parody of an earlier time he BELONGS in a Jeeves and Wooster novel. Jeeves would take him down a peg or two! 6y
CarolynM If only Jacob Rees Mogg's valet (I'm sure he has one) was as good as Jeeves - he would have kept him out of politics for sure!😂 6y

This is a “throwback” read and I still laugh at it. P.G. Wodehouse‘s Jeeves and Wooster series makes great reading. Think Jerome K Jerome, Nick and Nora Charles, or Stella Gibbons. Blackmail and love are at the heart of this one and Bertie is stuck in the middle. Thank goodness for Jeeves! https://cannonballread.com/2018/09/good-old-blackmail-you-just-cant-beat-it/http...

I've read the translation of this book. I didn't have any idea about this book it was just a random pick when I went to buy few other books last month. The summary was interesting which actually influenced me to get the book. Last Friday I decided to give it a try n trust me I finished this book by the end of the day. Twist after twist after twist made this book hard not to finish. Loved it. 4.5/5
