The Elfstones Of Shannara
The Elfstones Of Shannara: The Shannara Chronicles | Terry Brooks
ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR FANTASY TALES OF ALL TIME. NOW AN EPIC NEW SERIES ON 5STAR IN THE UK. Thousands of years after the destruction of the age of man and science, new races and magic now rule the world, but an imminent danger threatens. A horde of evil Demons is beginning to escape and bring death upon the land. Only Wil Ohmsford, the last of the Shannara bloodline, has the power to guard the Elven Princess Amberle on a perilous quest to the save the world, while the leader of the Demon force aims to stop their mission at any cost. Praise for Terry Brooks: 'A great storyteller, Terry Brooks creates rich epics filled with mystery, magic, and memorable characters' Christopher Paolini, author of Eragon 'I can't even begin to count how many of Terry Brooks's books I've read (and re-read) over the years' Patrick Rothfuss, author of The Name of the Wind 'I would not be writing epic fantasy today if not for Shannara' Peter V. Brett, author of The Painted Man 'A master of the craft . . . required reading' Brent Weeks, author of The Way of Shadows

This one was long.A lot of it actually put me to sleep. The exciting parts could have been done in 300 pages. It is not one of my favorite series, but it was a chunkster challenge met.It fulfilled #SeriesLove @Andrew65 being #2 in series Also,#ISpyBingoJanuary with Waves, persons back kind of, and Fog or Mist, perhaps even and Oval shape with the Satelite Dish? Which is confusing as to why that is on the cover is beyond me. @Clwojick @TheSpineView

TheSpineView I read this series years ago. I remember feeling the same way. Great job for sticking with it. 2y

I just finished another Mini Chunkster. This one was 745 pages. Almost made the super chunkster, although there were some parts of this book that could have been taken out. My review will be posted later with other challenges dealing with this book. #ChunksterChallenge @Amiable

The book differs quite a bit from the TV show. Which didn't surprise me. The basic plot was the same. If I hadn't seen the show, the ending would have been a total surprise. The fight scenes are very in depth. I felt like those could have used some editing. I enjoyed it but I'm unlikely to read more of the series. But I rarely read full series so it's not a reflection of the story. (Fireside reading courtesy of YouTube tv.)

Got addicted to the show on Netflix. Found out the hard way there was only 2 seasons. Legit had a meltdown on my treadmill when it didn't play a next episode. I bought the book for my sister but started reading it myself. I fear I'm now lost in the 4 lands. I'm sad about the show but looking forward to the books. It seems like there are a lot of them in series. I will see how they differ.

#wondrouswednesday @Eggs

1. Yes! Redamancy. It means "a love returned in full"

2. Depends on the series. If the writer can keep the story going in an imaginative and unique way, I'll still be reading when book 697 releases ? My favorite series is Shannara by Terry Brooks

3. Yep! I write Christian fantasy and part one of my first book releases Dec 12th!

4. Happy Wondrous Wednesday!

#NewHogwartsAdventure #stone

By the age of 16 l was already a strong reader. Up to that point l had mostly read mysteries (which is still one of my favourite genre), but l don't know why, around that time, l started longing for stories with magic and adventures.
Elfstones of Shannara was my first fantasy ever. Soon after l discovered David Gemmell and then Tolkien.

I saw this on Pinterest while scrolling through my feed. I certainly found it interesting. I love physical books, to me nothing can replace the feel of the pages and the smell of books. But I find myself getting more ebooks because it is nice not having my purse weighed down.

Elves & humans, demons & druids, magic, adventure, & a battle to save the world--everything a fantasy lover needs, & if it's not quite as captivating as Middle-Earth or Pern, it was enough to keep me turning pages. Will & Amberle's journey is exciting, but for me it was Ander, reluctant elf prince, who was the true heart of this story. I don't long to visit this world as I do Narnia or Lyra's Oxford, but it's not a bad place to spend some time.

Original order goes like this:
1. Sword of Shannara
2. Elfstones of Shannara
3. Wishsong of Shannara
I want to like The Sword of Shannara, but while there's clearly potential there, reading it was a bit...boring. 😴 So I've moved on the Elfstones of Shannara--which is great! Next I'll read Wishsong, then go back and finish Sword of Shannara as a prequel.

Sometimes I forget how slow I can be at reading. Some books I whip through others I can't. Which confuses me on this one because I'm loving it, but I'm barely 100 pages in?! Reading is odd sometimes.

[DELETED] 3558467437 I agree. Reading can be very odd. 8y
BekahB That definitely happens to me too. I think some books are meant to be read slowly. I recently read a book that took me longer to read than I expected but I think I just needed to absorb every sentence. Then there are some books that I can just tear through in one sitting. 8y

[DELETED] 1409720085 I can read pretty quickly but sometimes it takes me FOREVER to read something. I've been reading "Summer Days and Summer Nights" for over a month and I just finished the 5th story. I really like it but for some reason it is taking me soooo long. 8y
ReadingEnvy I really like the Erin Hart "Nora Gavin" series starting with Haunted Ground. Bog bodies! 8y
Notafraidofwords Totally happens to me. However, the books that take me long to read I enjoy the most. 8y
Megabooks I tried to read Open City. It's 180 pages. Three days into reading a book I would've usually finished in a day and a half, I was only about 50% done. I bailed. ☹️ 8y
lilredhen These books also have a relatively slow pace, unlike many newer fantasies that rush from one point to the next. It's the difference between a quick lemonade, and a nice long tea time-both good, but in different ways. 8y
