A library book. My second Christmas themed read this year.
A library book. My second Christmas themed read this year.
I savored this one. I enjoyed the peripheral story lines and how the characters intersected independently with the royal family. The will they/won't they stressed me out throughout. I am too impatient for that kind of thing, so I tend to power through so I can get to the best part.
This is EXACTLY what I want in a Christmas story!! History, friendship, good times, hard times, and a dash of romance to give you the warm fuzzies. The characters were realistic and multifaceted and the backdrop to their lives - mostly London and Sandringham - was so lovely. I loved it! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Centered around Queen Elizabeth‘s radio broadcast of Christmas messages over a 5 year period(1952-1957), this novel kept me company today while I nursed a cold.It is a festive holiday read, with in depth coverage of Sandringham‘s kitchens & the Queen‘s office & retreat. The story line of an impeded romance drives the plot.Olive Carter, single mom, typist for the BBC & aspiring reporter,& Jack Devereux, now chef on the royal staff, cross paths ⬇️
At my husband‘s behest, we visited a local small grocery that was serving samples of their Holiday menu. Yum! Everything from appetizers, fish, meats, veggies, sides, desserts. Such a fun & festive tradition. On the way, I read some of this book of historical fiction which I purchased previously at our local Indie bookstore. Very Christmasy day, chasing my cold away. #holidaybooks #Christmastraditions

Just plan to read what i can this week.
Finished this one on Friday. It was the perfect traveling book for me. I mostly read it on my flight to and from NC. Set over many christmases, Olive and Jack are reconnected while working for the Queen. It was a great historical fiction Christmas novel.

Aww what a lovely festive read. The queens speech was such a legacy and a tradition in many UK households including mine. We all sat with our christmas pudding to hear her words. This was such a heartfelt and wonderful take on those messages and those working behind the scenes. I loved the little interludes from the queen herself. The story though is mostly told by Jack and Olive. The plot is simple and sweet. #Netgalley 4*
I think this is my most anticipated read of December! I have a lot of Christmas books on my list but I really love when these 2 authors work together.

Don‘t miss this wonderful read as we spend Christmas with the Royals, many lovely characters, and as we follow Olive and Jack both past and present who share their love story with us.
A lovely, lovely storyline, wonderful behind-the-scenes information about the Royals, and a beautiful read all around. 5/5

Went to an author event tonight at my local indie. Saw Heather Webber and Hazel Gaynor with Jenny Howe as the host. I also bought a couple of other Christmas books.
Let me tell you, it felt way too soon to be buying Christmas books. 😆😆
