I really loved this book until the end.
Jack is an interesting character. I only wanted good things for her, but she kept making very questionable decisions.
It was fast paced and filled with mystery. But the ending was just blah. There is one specific theme in books that I don't like, sadly, this hit that particular theme.

This is a soft recommend.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ a very intense thriller! Highly enjoyed this! I am reminded of how much I love Ruth Ware every time I read her books!

An interesting story focused on computer security hacking. I think if I understood more about hacking I might have enjoyed it more. There were lots of twists as Jack tries to discover who murdered her husband Gabe. I enjoyed the story even though I didn‘t understand some of the terminology. I did give it a 3.75/5.

This one was really disappointing. I picked it up from the library as I enjoyed ‘Turn of the Key‘. This one was nowhere near as good. The cyber hacking concepts are interesting but the nonsensical decisions the protagonist made along the way just made this book annoying, ie if you want to confront someone don‘t knock on their door, instead throw yourself off their roof and swing onto their balcony using a sleeping bag and jacket as a rope swing 😂

Haunting and absurdly suspenseful!

I always love Ruth Ware! Very entertaining. This woman went through a lot!

I just couldn‘t really suspend belief long enough to like this one. Maybe is another case of “not for me” … oh well.

Meh. This thriller was less than thrilling - which is how I have found most of Ware's novels - and yet I keep reading them. 🤷‍♀️

Jacinta (Jack) Cross & her husband, Gabe Medway are 'penetration specialists' (ahem) who are people hired by companies to test their physical & online security systems. On this particular assignment, things go wrong & Jack ends up being arrested for breaking & entering. Her skeevy ex (who is a police officer) vouches for her & Jack is finally released, only to head home & find her husband has been murdered. (continued)

Current #audiobook and I‘m really enjoying it! The narration is excellent and I‘m curious to see where we end up after the plot twists and turns!

Not my favorite of Wares. It‘s an OK story that seemed to drag on, had no real surprises and things were left unresolved. It really started slow but picked up in the middle and end. Don‘t make this the first book you read by Ware if you haven‘t read her before.

This isn‘t what I was expecting from her earlier work, a little more action and not for me

Jacintha and Gabe Cross are the best penetration guys available, testing corporate security systems to insure they‘re as robust as possible. Returning home from a failed job, “Jack” finds her husband Gabe brutally murdered. Good premise, but not very well executed. Predictably, Jack is the primary suspect. Predictably, she runs terrible risks seeking the actual killer and unfortunately, there‘s no surprise twist. Good news: it‘s a quick read.

A woman finds herself the prime suspect in her husband‘s murder, and she turns fugitive, on the run from the law, wanting to find out the truth herself. The story started off strong, fast paced, but later the thrill died off and I found it to be repetitive. Also, I need to suspend disbelief on quite a number of occasions. The reveal was no surprise; overall it was meh for me. It‘s probably just me because many others have loved this tech thriller.

Reading a book by Ruth Ware for #Scarathlon is a tradition now. 👻🎃☠️

I‘ve seen mixed reviews on this one, but I enjoyed it! It‘s like The Fugitive but for the digital age. It was maybe a bit longer than it needed to be, but I was engrossed in the story.

Ruth Ware is usually love or hate for me. This is the first that I found middle of the road. It was fast paced but also still managed to drag in places. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Jacintha "Jack" Cross tests company security systems for a living. When a brutal crime hits close to home, the police believe Jack is responsible, and she has to draw on every ounce of strength and skill she has to track down the real killer. This propulsive and increasingly tense thriller is The Fugitive for the information age, extremely hard to put down and definitely cinematic.

I enjoyed the mystery. The story overall was good.

I wasn‘t fond of the main character. I preferred Gabe & her sister. Jack seemed a bit unbelievable. She was this quivering mess on the inside from the beginning but did super hero stunts.

I liked the ending! Definitely worth a read, recommended if you enjoy a fast paced psychological thriller packed with suspense! So while this is a so-so for me, I can see this could be for you!

*Sigh* This was a definitely miss for me. I wouldnt call this a thriller at all. I am not good with technology and this whole book is about computers and hacking so i was very lost. Im used to her books being very twisty but this one wasnt at all. The end definitely wasnt the greatest either. Im starting to realize her books are hit or miss for me. This one fell flat.

Her books are a bit hit & miss for me so fingers crossed for this one!🤞Jack & her husband Gabe are hired by big companies to break into buildings & hack their security systems to expose flaws. When a routine job goes wrong, Jack arrives home to find Gabe dead & she‘s the prime suspect to the police. On the run, she‘s trying to clear her name & find the real killer. Sounds great🙌

I love Ruth Ware and even more when Imogen Church narrates but this one is starting pretty slow for me.

I enjoy Ware‘s books. However, this one gets a soft pick for me. It wasn‘t particularly twisty like I was hoping for. I‘m definitely glad I listened to it but it‘s not my favorite Ware book. As always, Imogen Church was a fantastic narrator.

I have been waiting so long to get to this one that I no longer recall ANYTHING about it. So, I decided not to re-read anything about it 🤯🤗

This was a complete meh kinda read. I didn't connect to any of the characters, I thought the storyline lacked creativity. I wanted to be sucked into the book and I simply wasn't. Even the ending whilst tied everything up still left me feeling as if I missed something along the way.

A great setup and a masterfully executed suspense thriller. I read an interview in BookPage and Ware talks about her research for writing the book. She mentions watching a show called Hunted. Has anyone seen it? Is it available in the US?

My new Kindle arrived today. It‘s the Paperwhite 16 GB newest version. My smaller Paperwhite is from 2019 (2018 model). Love the updated version! 📚🌼🌷💚

I‘ve enjoyed most of Ruth Ware‘s books but this was just ok. It really wasn‘t that surprising or twisty and at the end I just felt like “yeah, ok, that makes sense 🤷🏼‍♀️”. No shock or excitement like I typically want when I turn that last page. Worth a listen but nothing particularly special here. 🌟🌟🌟

Super speedy but predictable thriller about a not particularly techie pen tester who becomes a suspect in her husband‘s murder. It was fine.

Just not feeling it. Her last couple of books haven‘t been as good as her first few. I read 3 hours and just don‘t care enough to finish another 11. 🤷🏻‍♀️ (Too long!!) After how wonderful SA Cosby‘s new one was, this just can‘t compare. On to the next!

I love Ruth Ware, but this one was a little hit or miss for me. A woman who works testing the security of companies alongside her husband comes home from a job and finds him murdered. She‘s quickly considered the prime suspect by the police and is on the run. I found some of this so predictable it was disappointing, though some bits surprised me. Not her worst book, but nowhere near her best.

July already?!? July #bookspinbingo list. Several big books in this one. Hoping for some slow time by the pool and we have a week at the beach coming up. Here‘s to getting some reading in before the August crazy starts!

It was clear from the get-go who the bad guy was going to be here. In fact, it was so obvious that it wasn‘t even disappointing to have realized it. It was just fun to read Jac realize her pen testing skills did not cross over to character evaluation. ..It also sent me to google for the English history of the TwoUp TwoDown - interesting!

I loved this book. This is Ware's best book in a while. Jack is a professional hacker, and while out dealing with the complications of her job, her husband is killed, and she is being framed for it 🩶

Eeeeeeee! Up next! 💕📚 I can't believe I've gotten to read my two favorite thriller author's new books back to back!
