Nonfiction - published in 1947. Discovered in the attic in which she spent the last years of her life, Anne Frank‘s remarkable diary has become a world classic—a powerful reminder of the horrors of war and an eloquent testament to the human spirit.

Ordered a replica diary from the Anne Frank Huis and I'm going to write Anne's quotes in both English and Dutch.
I don't know much Dutch so this is going to be a fun challenge

I really liked it. It shows the struggles of Anne as a teenager in hiding. Even after almost a century, things still seem relatable to us/nowadays. I‘m also constantly reminded the sad truth that she passed away in such a horrible way despite her always being so cheerful in her entries. Overall, I rate it a 8/10.

I picked this up because I wanted to compare this to the new GN version I read earlier this month. I remember reading this in grade school, so it‘s interesting to get the adult perspective. It‘s startling to think of the incredibly wide reach this one text has had, becoming the definitive picture of the holocaust in so many peoples minds. I think lockdown has given me a new perspective on what it might really mean to be confined for 2 years.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Right! And people are losing their minds about a month quarantine or wearing masks when they go outside for a year or two. They‘d never make it in a real emergency. 3y

This diary has left lasting impression. This diary of Anne Frank, a girl who was mature than her age had penned down most tragic 2 years(1942-44). In her diary, she elobrately talked about the pathetic suffering of jews, living in hideaway, relationship between her and parent and other topics like family, friend, love, politics, religion. Anyone will be amazed to know all these topics had been written by girl only of 13-15 years old. Must read book !

I can‘t even begin to imagine being a young teenager in hiding for two years of life. The fear... the hope... the isolation from your friends. She was mature beyond her years, but still a child. She found solace in writing to her “dear Kitty” - her diary. Her personality shone through her writing.

I still can't believe this book was written by someone as young as 12-15 year old. She lived through the most difficult time imaginable and describes her struggles beautifully. I think everyone should read this book once.

PS. Really helped me feel better about this entire Quarantine situation 🙈

Wonderful but made me truly sick to my stomach. Reading her clear, funny, optimistic writing (hard to believe a young teen could write this well) knowing what was going to happen was horrifying. I wish I hadn‘t read the afterword on the train so I could have cried properly.

I‘m glad I read t even though it was hard. It reminded me of everything I shouldn‘t take for granted and how hard we owe it to people like Anne to work for a fairer world.

CassiopeiaK Exactly! I felt the same way when I read it. But I guess this is just how a lot of historic autobiographies is. 3y

Home from Paris, family lunch done, bath taken and now quiet time. I‘m finally reading Anne Frank which I should have read years ago. I wanted to read it in the most respectful, thoughtful way I could rather than just race through it, so I‘ve got a whole evening and plenty of time to think.

She‘s such a warm, humorous, humane writer. She puts a lot of things in perspective for me, and I‘m appreciating how lucky I am to live my life

Naj One of my all time favorites. Really hope you love this one. 6y
Ms_T The thing that stuck me most about this book was the maturity from such a young writer. Loved it ❤️ 6y

#backpackeurope travelogue *fictional*
Country 45: The Netherlands - I ate some stroopwaffel as I toured Amsterdam (canal tours, and a visit to the Secret Annex to pay my respects). I also kept my eyes peeled for windmills and tulips!
Rereading this book for the first time as an adult and it breaks my heart. Probably one of the most important books ever. Everyone should read it...and recognize how horrific it is she never got to grow up. 5/5

Good historical reference. A bit dry to read through in it's entirety. Interesting that it came from a teenage girl (age 13 - 15). I think this is one that everyone should read at least once.

Finished my second book on the #readharderchallenge. #publishedposthumously

I was enthralled by this book. Listened to the audiobook and the reader is top notch. Highly highly recommended it. Anne writes about her life as a 13 year old then about life in hiding. Not very interesting situations but Anne‘s writing and insights make them worth reading about. Anne would‘ve gone on to do great things. 💔

blurb
hike.read.repeat

I‘m 30 minuets or so into the audiobook and simply Anne describing her everyday life as a 13 year old is absolutely enthralling. Reading for #publishedposthumously on the #readharderchallenge.

I‘m also reading another book that‘s in journal format and I think I‘m going to seek out more journal books because I enjoy the style.

How can anyone dislike this diary? Anne Frank is truly an inspiration, a role model, a great storyteller, and a funny little girl. Sadly, she was taken from this world far too soon. This riveting story about one of the most famous families during WWII is worth every page.
