I finally got to my #FoodAndLit #Bangladesh book (Although it was mostly set in India so I want to go back and see what the rest of you read.)

This novel revolved around several lives in the Sundarbans - river islands on the border of India and Bangladesh. There‘s a scientist studying freshwater dolphins, the prodigal nephew returning for the first time since he was sent as a punishment as a child, the young family struggling with expectations⬇️

This book is about an American scientist who makes her way to Bangladesh‘s tide country to observe river dolphins. Throughout her trip, she observes the fauna, builds relationships with the locals, connects with religion and finally decides to stay. A nice story that, for my taste however, is a bit too slow to pick up and might have been told too often.

Oof! That book packs a punch. I might need some time to recover.

I've started The Hungry Tide, set in the Sundarbans, wetlands spanning West Bengal in India and Bangladesh.
Foodwise, I don't know what I'm going to cook yet. I'm hoping for mentions of dishes in the book that I can look up and try my hand at.

I love Ghosh‘s unique style of environmentally conscious fiction. If a book that‘s part travelogue, part social commentary, and part ecological history, interests you then I heartily recommend The Hungry Tide. And the Irrawaddy dolphins (see above) and Sundarban Islands are both central to the story and wholly unique.

I'm so glad I listened to this as an audiobook because I never would have been able to pronounce the names. 😁

This story is told between past and present, which adds a depth to the emotions I didn't expect. It follows a scientist and a fisherman as they explore the mangrove forests in search of river dolphins. I loved the characters and the descriptions in this book. Wonderful story! 💚

One of the best reads of #2020! Certain books lingers in your mind for long after you finish it and creates an impact in your heart. This is one such gem!

Its an amazing read with a very emotional story and very interesting insights about geology and marine mammal life. The book is set in the remote islands of Sunderbans, India indulging readers into its simple life and challenges.

A book that I read in 2010 and one that made it to my top favourites of all times. #auldlangreads

This book wasn't an easy read for me, because geology and animals wasn't something that I read before. But as I got into it, I started liking it. Hungry Tide wasn't a read at one go for me. It was a book that I have been ruminating on after few weeks. And I am so glad I stuck with it without bailing on it.

Beautiful written. Must read!

The Hungry Tide is the story of a love triangle set against the ethical dilemma of how to balance the survival of humans, river dolphins, and tigers in the Sundarbans, islands at the south of India. My only complaint is that Ghosh seems more interested in the cultural and scientific aspects of the situation than his characters.

Ghosh has always been one of my favorite writers and I think this book is his signature work along with The Glass Palace n sea of Poppies. Precisely i love the way he keeps it low profile yet elegant while illustrating the story along with his dialectical uses in his novels. But what i like about d novel is d raw depiction of daily life and death situations of the abandoned fates. It's like a war for survival. Would recommend the book to everyone.

A friend brought me these to read today. Especially looking forward to the Hungry Tide as I loved the Ibis trilogy.

Albeit a little slow in the beginning, looks promising.
