Charlotte Holmes comes face to face with her enemy when Moriarty turns to her in his hour of need, in the USA Today bestselling series set in Victorian England. A most unexpected client shows up at Charlotte Holmes's doorstep: Moriarty himself. Moriarty fears that tragedy has befallen his daughter and wants Charlotte to find out the truth. Charlotte and Mrs. Watson travel to a remote community of occult practitioners where Moriarty's daughter was last seen, a place full of lies and liars. Meanwhile, Charlottes sister Livia tries to make sense of a mysterious message from her beau Mr. Marbleton. And Charlottes longtime friend and ally Lord Ingram at last turns his seductive prowess on Charlotteor is it the other way around? But the more secrets Charlotte unravels about Miss Moriartys disappearance, the more she wonders why Moriarty has entrusted this delicate matter to her of all people. Is it merely to test Charlotte's skills as an investigator, or has the man of shadows trapped her in a nest of vipers?

I just love this series. This book brings together everything from the previous books and put Charolette against Moriarty. He was always in the outskirts of every investigation but now he has “hired” Charolette for his own investigation. A new character Moriarty‘s daughter is introduced and I love her. I really like all the strong female characters in this series. They are tough but also endearing. Also the love stories are advancing nicely. 🥰

I just love this series! I sometimes deliberately fall behind just so I‘ll have one or two waiting in the wings. 😂😂🤷🏻‍♀️ This 6th addition was especially great I thought. We‘re treated to Charlotte‘s first interaction with Moriarity (aka Mr. Baxter) as he hires her to infiltrate a religious cult and find his missing and rebellious daughter. There are several storylines going on in this one so I had to pay close attention as the play is deep.⬇️

robinb One of my favorite things about this story is the continuing growth of Charlotte‘s and Ash‘s personal relationship. They have both evolved into more relaxed and playful people, and that is really fun to see. With all the action going on here, the ensemble cast is well represented, and the ending denouement is both exciting and satisfying. Such a fun pleasure to read these books. 4.5/5⭐️ #DoubleSpin 5mo

Finished in April but I‘m behind in posting. Book 6 in the Lady Sherlock series. One to go before the new one in June. I liked this one overall, the mystery was intriguing & the setting of a cult sanctuary & I love the sexy sassiness of relationship of Holmes & Ash but things were a bit disjointed & it will be interesting to see how things pick up or change for Holmes in the next one. So ⬇️

DebinHawaii …maybe a slightly softer pick than the last one. Still I enjoy the series. I listened to this one on audio as it came in quicker through library hold. I think the next one is only available in e-book. 6mo

Second book of the day, complete— if you‘re not acquainted with Charlotte Holmes, you should be!Suspenseful, clever, & now with a bit of spice. The high stakes made this latest installment so satisfying 🕵️‍♀️ this mystery centered on “the occult”— always love seeing how writers portray this

also, feeling a bit better after some tea & my famous lemon orzo soup 🍲 delighted to tackle my holiday tbr tbh ☕️

Scochrane26 Still my fave series. 11mo
DGRachel I think I own the first in this series but I haven‘t read it yet. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 11mo

Light pick. I was really intrigued by the mysterious religious cult investigation plot line, but it ended up being a total dud! While I love all the main characters, the introduction of Moriarty‘s estranged daughter didn‘t really add anything for me. The relationship development between the main characters was a strength, especially Charlotte & Lord Ingram. The ending saved the plot for me, and after reading the blurb for the next, I am excited!

Saknicole I need to catch up now! 2y

I‘ve really enjoyed this series but sad to say this installment was a struggle for me. I actually started it months ago and put it aside before finally finishing it on audio. The mystery is kind of convoluted, there‘s a lot of description and not much action, and after the opening chapters the great villain Moriarty doesn‘t seem all that scary. I hope the next one is better.

This was my #BookSpinDoubleSpin in February and I finally finished!

Next in the series comes out March, 2023 ...

I chose this one for #LetterM because someone else beat me to Mary's Monster, which is one of my favorite M books. But I have been really enjoying this Lady Sherlock series, especially its subtle, continuous social commentary.

I love the series but this latest entry was a bit of a mixed bag. Charlotte is still her inimitable self but this case seemed at turns outlandish and deliberately convoluted. I do hope the series continues but it will take some significant maneuvering to tie up the multiple loose ends after this one. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Love the Scooby gang but the plot was over the top.

I love love love this series - it‘s smart, fast paced, atmospheric, fabulous characters and well written. But I‘ve read them all!
What series can I start now that is full of smart, strong women with an historical element???

Lynnsoprano I recommend the Lady Darby series by Anna Lee Huber, which begins with The Anatomist‘s Wife. Also Andrea Penrose‘s Wrexford and Sloan mysteries. The first of those is Murder on Black Swan Lane. I love the Lady Sherlock books, too, but I‘m a couple behind on that series. 3y

This book is BARELY a pick. I thought the story was not very cohesive and I did not enjoy the way the author switched out of third person narrative. I felt this was very much a filler book. Still love the series! Moriarty comes to Charlotte to ask for her help to determine if his daughter is alive and well in a religious compound. There are many secrets and Charlotte and her friends must race to discover and connect them all. 2/5 stars.

Hi… it's been a while. 2021 was… well.. all my spoons went to getting through each day one day at a time. 2021 is the year I read the least books ever. I'm at 13, hoping getting to 15 maybe.

I found 2021 harder than 2020. Work was intense, demanding and completely bonkers every single week. I come home and just sit and don't want to do nothing other than sit, listen to podcast or radio. Tv is not much.

I did finish the new Lady Sherlock. 🥰

tournevis Welcome back! 😘 😘 😘 😘 😘 😘

To be fair, I was barely here too. For me too it's been worse that 2020. I have never had a more intense work year in my entire live and that includes the year of my comprehensive exams where I had to read, understand, and synthesize 15000 pages of history studies and theory in the span of 10 months.

One of my favorite series, and this latest book did not disappoint. I remember the last book (Murder on Cold Street) didn't pull me in as quickly as the others, and I was worried the author may be losing steam, but this latest story pulled me in right away so I am very glad that is not the case! Love the humor sprinkled in.

This series just gets better and better! It's smart, rich in detail, diverse and full of puzzles, mystery and a broad cast of amazing characters. Thomas manages to make this thoroughly modern in tone, outlook, opinion and politics - whilst still remaining faithful to the original characters. It seems effortlessly feminist - as if Victorian England was always that way!

I reread the 5th book in this series by audio, love the narrator. The tagged is the 6th book, & as usual, I loved it. The romance makes progress, but the other events are very serious. Moriarty is directly involved this time. Not sure I loved the mystery as much as previous books but interested to see where Thomas goes with it.
