Lady Killer Library Edition
Lady Killer Library Edition | Joelle Jones, Jamie Rich
Josie Schuller is a picture-perfect homemaker, wife, and mother--but she's also a ruthless killer! She balances cheerful domestic bliss with coldly efficient assassinations. From the World's Fair in Seattle to the beaches of Florida, Josie tries to keep her perfect family alive in a bloodstained new vision of the American Dream. Joelle Jones became an overnight sensation with this gory midcentury series, leading to successful runs on DC's Catwoman and Batman titles. Now Lady Killer's complete story (so far) is together in one oversized hardcover, the perfect showcase for Jones's phenomenal artwork. This oversized hardcover collects the original series cowritten by Jones's longtime collaborator Jamie S. Rich, as well as the followup, which she both wrote and drew solo. Also included are the sketchbooks from both series and previously unpublished art. Collects Lady Killer TPB volumes 1 & 2.

I'm not going to lie, I was suckered in by the cover which got me to read the blurb and this was an interesting read!
The concept of a lady serial killer isn't new but the way the story presented Josie was, at least to me.

Maybe it's the combination of the quintessential 50's looking housewife disguised as a ruthless killer that's got me intrigued in between the panels of kills, blood, and action but it works!

Why did this have to be problematic (and not for the reasons you might be thinking)? I wanted to revel in its in-your-face feminism, and I liked it, until I didn't. The reason I didn't can be construed as a spoiler.

Obvious CW for lots of violence.

An enjoyable graphic novel!!! I loved the art and storyline of it especially! It was engaging and just the right amount of pages. I love books and stories that go beyond the stereotypical housewife trope. The book also included a good amount of dark humor and sarcasm, which I love. I could definitely see this as a great show. This 1st volume makes me very eager to read the next one!

Finally got my hands on a copy of Lady Killer. I love the fake 50s ads in this graphic novel. Of course I start reading about a 1950s female serial killer/assassin on International Women‘s Day. Hey you celebrate your way and I will celebrate mine. 🧐😅

I was excited to read this cuz it was touted as for fans of Killing Eve which I‘m a huge fan-I have a tattoo and met my girlfriend in a fan chat. But then I came across this a few pages in this comic. The word “squaw” is very offense and a slur used for us Natives so I‘m kinda pissed off at its flippant use here

I absolutely adored the art in this. The faux ads are super fun too. This felt similar in tone to the movie Serial Mom, but even kitschier.

The review is for volume 1 & 2.
In short, I loved it. Being a working mom is tough when you‘re an assassin for hire.
The art was just beautiful, with the early sixties vibe perfectly captured. Vivid and wonderful. Loved the main character she was a total badass. Hope to see more of these.

I picked up this Betty-Draper-meets-Dexter graphic novel because it sounded fun. But it is serious murder-y business! The art & story do not pull any punches in that regard.
But even though she excels, things get serious with her bosses - they just don‘t respect the struggle of a mom balancing murdering & childcare. She stands up for herself, things get gory, and I can hardly wait to see where this story goes next!
Josie kicks ass 🔪

Loved the intro by Chelsea Cain, author of the Archie Sheridan series that follows a female serial killer. Josie Schuller is your picture perfect house wife and mother but she's also a ruthless assassin whose eyeliner is always on point. Loved the storyline and the artwork. Betty Draper meets Dexter! Gimme some! 🙌🖤🔪

Great artwork in this darkly comedic graphic novel series about a 1950s-60s housewife who is also a hired killer. I'm interested enough to look for the sequel, Lady Killer 2. Sadly, books 3-5 in the series don't seem to be available anywhere. #graphicnovels #darkcomedy

Josie Schiller seems like the perfect housewife, but she is also a paid assassin. Unfortunately, her domestic duties have caused her to run afoul of her superiors.

This was a fun, retro read but I probably won't continue with the series.

#SizzlinSummerBooks #day16 #Graphic I read a lot of graphic novels as a kid,Tintin & Asterix&Obelisk were favourites, but I stopped reading them for a very long time(between 13 & 45).It was Litsy that encouraged me to pick them back up again & I'm so glad I did. These five in particular are brilliant. From top left-4girls in uni in Leeds,a villian & his sidekick, paper delivery girls in a time loop, girls at summer camp & finally a housewife assassin.

Day 19: Opposites. "Lady Killer" is about an American housewife in the 1960s who is an assassin. "The Clockwork Scarab" is about the niece of Sherlock Holmes and sister of Bram Stoker set in an alternate Steampunk London. One is a graphic novel and the other a prose novel, one is for adults the other is YA...umm, I'm sure there is more I'm not remembering. Hope this is opposite enough! #riotgrams

#JuneTunz #day11 #OneMoreTry I stopped reading graphic novels for about 30yrs until Litsy. Seeing all the great reviews of series like Saga, Lumberjanes & Rat Queens persuaded me to give them One More Try, & I'm so glad I did! Not only are those 3 brilliant, I've also found LadyKiller, Monstress, I Hate Fairyland & Paper Girls. All fantastic, beautifully drawn & great storylines. Only problem is it doesn't take me long to read them😏

Cinfhen I agree, the few GN I read took less than 15 -20 minutes ...didn't seem like good value for my $ 7y
NovelGirl82 I love that Litsy got me back in to graphic novels!! I read X-Men and WW in high school, but had not read others until Litsy. 7y
Gezemice I was started on graphic novels by a category in the Popsugar reading challenge two years ago. I thought they were all about superheroes. When I found out how many great graphic novels are out there that have nothing to do with men in capes, I was hooked!
