A new land has been discovered to the east. Winterkeep is a land of miracles, a democratic republic run by people who like each other, where people speak to telepathic sea creatures, adopt telepathic foxes as pets, and fly across the sky in ships attached to balloons. But when Bitterblue's envoys to Winterkeep drown under suspicious circumstances, she and Giddon and her half-sister, Hava, set off to discover the truth--putting both Bitterblue's life and Giddon's heart to the test when Bitterblue is kidnapped. Giddon believes she has drowned, leaving him and Hava to solve the mystery of what's wrong in Winterkeep. Lovisa Cavenda is the teenage daughter of a powerful Scholar and Industrialist (the opposing governing parties) with a fire inside her that is always hungry, always just nearly about to make something happen. She is the key to everything, but only if she can figure out what's going on before anyone else, and only if she's willing to transcend the person she's been all her life.

This was such a wonderful tale in the Graceling realm. To see the rise of Queen Bitterblue as she finds herself and travels to new kingdoms is amazing. I‘m excited for the next one to see how these travels impact her kingdom.

So I read the Graceling series years ago and I thought it was only a trilogy. Imagine my surprise when I saw books 4 and 5 were out! After a quick refresh I dove into book 4 and found that it wasn‘t as good as I remember. This one hardly had any mentions of the Gracelings and I found the storyline underwhelming. I‘m still going to read book 5 as I‘ve made it this far and am curious how the series will end. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 stars #serieslove2023

TheSpineView Bummer. Great job for pushing through to the finish. 2y
willaful
I was disappointed too and haven't been in any hurry to read the 5th.
2y
Meshell1313 @willaful just finished the 5th. It was much better. The whole book they are basically on the ship sailing back and it‘s from Hava‘s POV so maybe that‘s why I was able to enjoy it. 2y
willaful good to hear! I'll move it up Mt. TBR. Or should that be down? 😁 2y

@AkashaVampie #BookishMoodBoard

This was super fun! It really makes you think differently about the book. Thanks for the tag! I‘m working my way through the Graceling series so this mood board really depicts book 4 Winterkeep.

AkashaVampie Awesome. I love it. Will have to check out the books. I am hoping this might help with book recs. 2y

I loved new characters, and there were even some familiar characters from the previous books. And to be honest I might have enjoyed even more for new non-human POVs!

I liked how this had so much action & mysteries from the first pages - that made this really fascinating read. I loved the world and how this all the time made me to try to guess what's happening.

If you like her other books, you'll enjoy this one too, though it lacks the same adventure and excitement of her other stories. Her creativity is still visible and lovely to read, and I enjoyed the story, but it was much more complex in the characters and development than any straight forward quest.

I love the Graceling Realm books, but the new world-building in this one didn't hold up for me- too many characters and subplots, five narrators (?!), convoluted details, and about 100 pages too long. But where it's good, it's really good! Our new character Lovisa is a stunner, and I love the arcs for our old friends Bitterblue, Gidden, Saf, and Skye. I likely won't re-read this one, but I'm glad to have read it once. Also, those endpapers! 😍😍😍

I was so excited when I found out there would be a new book in the Graceling Realm series, and it did not disappoint! Bitterblue and Giddon felt like old friends to me despite the fact that it‘s been years since I read Bitterblue. I enjoyed getting to know the country of Winterkeep and characters like Lovisa and Nev—Lovisa isn‘t exactly lovable in the beginning, but it was wonderful to see her grow.

Clare-Dragonfly Apparently this was my #doublespin but I forgot to tag @TheAromaofBooks 😅 4y
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! And what a gorgeous cover!! 4y
Clare-Dragonfly @TheAromaofBooks Isn‘t it? I hate when they change the covers in the middle of a series but I am genuinely tempted to re-buy this whole series for the new covers. 😍 4y
TheAromaofBooks So far I haven't repurchased an entire series (yet) but I have definitely gone back and purchased an additional copy of a book I already own so that I can get the cover I love that didn't exist when I bought it the first time lol 4y

I woke up in the middle of the night to a sharp muscle pain in my back. 😨 I‘m not sure what the heck I did to it but it does seem to require a hot bath with bath salts (“Dominique” from Wonderful Body Co—lavender and peppermint) and this fabulous book.

Traci1 Hope you're feeling better soon. Back pain sucks. 4y

Just finished Winterkeep, the newest book in the Graceling series by Kristin Cashore. I adore this series! I feel like it is a YA fantasy series that gets overlooked often and doesn't get nearly as much hype as it deserves! It's seriously so good! Aside from having badass female characters, it also deals with things like sex and trauma recovery in mature and insightful ways.

I'm still mad they changed the covers though! The new covers are 😍!

Bookworm54 I love this series! And agree it doesn‘t get enough love ☺️ 4y
Clare-Dragonfly I totally agree, this is not as hyped as it deserves! Can‘t wait to read Winterkeep. 4y

It follows after Cashore‘s Bitterblue, as yet more kingdoms have been discovered. It was not as spellbinding as the first three, which i still reread every now and again, but still really well written. Also loved knowing more about how Bitterblue gets on with reigning her country and all the little bits of information about past characters.

1. Thank you a million times over for the posts about two of these books Ryan! These three are favorite book series I‘ve read as an adult- and Cashore and Turner can do no wrong as far as I‘m concerned! I‘ve only read the first Kemmerer but it was perfect for a #beautyandthebeastretelling
My heart is content beyond belief ❤️ Also, my feijoada is finished. Spicier than I expected with vegan chorizo so vegan sour cream adddd. #foodandlit

Such a beautiful Cover for Winterkeep. This is book 4 in the Graceling series. Now this is a “surprise“ or extremely long awaited 4th book, as book three came out a long time ago. The first book came out over 12 years ago, and I think it has been 9 years since book 3.

This is a great opportunity to rediscover an older excellent series that got overshadowed by HP and HG.

Out Jan 18

Chrissyreadit No WAY!!!! This is one of my favorite series and favorite authors!!!! I am so excited! 4y
SaunteringVaguelyDownwards I'm looking forward to this as well! I'm still impressed with the way Cashore addressed the trauma of genocide on a YA level in Bitterblue. 4y
