Really good-banned book!
Read during June😳This was like The Little Mermaid retelling but with a male-male romance. I thought it was super cheesy, very YA but cute story. Athlen was so sweet. 3⭐️

I am trying to decide if the writing of this is too juvenile for me, or if I in general find mermaid stories silly. Why are vampires and werewolves a fun read for me but mermaids have me rolling my eyes?
The writing feels very fan-fiction like which doesn't help.
I am bailing at 1/3 in. If anyone has a well written mermaid book I would love to try something else to see if I have an aversion to mermaid stories in general!
Because this book shows up frequently on the 🏳️🌈 book lists I was expecting a romance when really it‘s a coming of age story. My son loaned me his copy. Enjoyable light read. YA. Took a couple of busy evenings to read. Pirates, magic, political intrigue with a smattering of romance. EDITING to add: MC is 16. I generally roll my eyes at teens in romances but it is what it is.
My last bookstack was: Gilgamesh, Island Beneath the Sea, We Should All be Feminists, If We Were Villains with Training School for Negro Girls as my quickie. Reminder Classic, Fiction, Non-Fiction, Guilty Pleasure or What I want to read, with a Quickie made up of poetry, essays or short stories for between books. My next book stack is: The Iliad {Mitchell trans}, The House of Spirits, Whipping Girl, In Deeper Waters w/ Night Sky with Exit Wounds
4.75⭐ This book was like a warm hug -- a perfect palate cleanser after reading more serious works. It is heartwarming and sweet, and there is great chemistry between the characters. While the magical world isn't delved into in-depth, it is diverse and interesting enough to add a good backdrop to the adventure and romance in the book.
#BookSpinBingo - Square 4
This book was so cute and fun. It's basically the story of the Little Merman who finds his prince, and then chaos ensues 💜

This is a quick, fast paced book that has pirates, magic, political intrigue and romance. It's remarkably low stakes for including all that.
It's an enjoyable read, the characters are fun, the romance is cute, and it's not deep. It's a book you read on a train and I'm not mad about that.

When Prince Taliesin, 4th in line for the throne, is kidnapped by pirates on his coming of age tour, he may have to place his hope of rescue in a myth.
This was delightful! It was a fast read, well paced. I loved the familial relationships, the magic, the bits & pieces of The Little Mermaid, the developing romance. But everything left me wanting more! More (so much more) world building, more of the secondary characters, more magic! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
I would suggest that the main theme of the book is making your own way despite your circumstances. Would you agree? How did you feel Lukens handled Tal's magic?
#LGBTbookclub
There are strong family ties throughout this book - how did you feel about this twis on the usual fairytale dynamics? did you have a favourite prince or princess?
#LGBTbookclub
This was a new take on The Little Mermaid, but it also referenced the fairy tale genre as a whole. What did you think of this retelling and the theme? Were there any parts that you thought were discussed particularly well or were missed out?

This didn‘t seem quite up my alley but it‘s the #LGBTBookClub pick and was available at my library, so I gave it a shot. Everything was too on the nose and it felt shallow; I wasn‘t interested in the romance.
You guessed it—I was in Lapland when I bailed on this book. This is the best picture I managed of the Aurora Borealis.
Secret magics, myths from the sea, kidnapped princes, oh my! This was a fun read, though nothing was particularly surprising about it. I loved the characters and was engaged by their plight at every stage. I didn't realize how many sisters were discussed in the book, which lead me to drawing the worst conclusions about what was coming! Overall, I would recommend this read if you love mermaids, fairytale love stories, or adventure. #LGBTQ #Merfolk

Happy#TalkLikeAPirateDay‼️ I had sooo much fun recently getting my Pirate on to join Fictional Hangover Podcast in discussion of September's Book Club Challenge Theme of #YoHoHoAhoyMateys.

And just because you couldn't see the boots doesn't mean you don't need to wear them. 🏴☠️
I've been listening and loving. When I unexpectedly had couple of hours of quiet time during this busy Holiday weekend I poured a glass of wine and set down with my print copy.
Just loved it! Will finish listening to audio as well. 🏴☠️

Adorable YA Little Mermaid retelling. I can see why not everyone loved this but Tal & Athlen were sweet cinnamon rolls. I loved everything about this. Can I have a movie please?? 🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈
Was this book almost annoyingly cute? Yes. Did I enjoy every adorably disgusting minute? Absolutely.
#currentlyreading #preview #junerso2022 #digital #gaypirates One third of the way through and Tal our hero prince is trying to be the good guy. His love interest Athlen is oh so charming but frustratingly enigmatic.
Ooo I loved this one, it was so cute! Queer fantasy with magic, romance, and pirates! Prince Tal has forbidden magic, the last of his kind, and has to hide his powers. On his coming of age tour, he meets the mysterious Athlen, who also has a secret. When pirates kidnap Tal, the boys team up to uncover the nefarious plot against his family and try to save the kingdom.

A cute m/m fantasy romance about a prince with magic and a merman who made a deal with a sea witch for legs. It was a cute story about these two coming into their own amidst a whole lot of adversity. I had *kind of* hoped one of them would turn out to be a pirate but cute regardless.
Finished my latest audio knitting project for my new little nephew
First book finished of the #marvellousmarch #springbreak #readathon #extravaganza! A #queer retelling of The Little Mermaid, I really enjoyed this one. 4 ⭐️!
Just a small portion of TBR or books currently in progress, including my #BOTM books!
Unfortunately, despite the gorgeous cover, this one didn‘t really work for me. It felt a little simplistic at times. I would maybe recommend for early YA readers though. And the romance may appeal to fans of Timekeeper.
Here are my top 25 reads of 2021 - novels and memoirs. It was hard to narrow it down but thanks to my countdown it helped narrow things. ❤️
For #October #12in2021 I‘m back to four - All of these were fantastic! #10thbookof2021
Boys Run the Riot is a fantastic manga starring a transgender MC
Measuring up is one of newest fave GN about cooking, culture and friendship
The Fell of Dark is likely the best vampire book I‘ve ever read and will likely revisit every year!

Starting November off with this beauty 😍 (and this 🍷)! I'm 35 pages in and LOVING it ♥️.
I have no idea why I ordered this one? File it under lockdown purchases (the cover is pretty cool - let‘s just say it was a cover buy)
I haven‘t really been in a YA mood lately - so I don‘t know when I‘ll read this one…
Some more marvelous books for #scarathlon2021 read the past 10 days. 4 for #littenlisten and 3 for #bookspinbingo Altho I made add the other of these to my open spots. And all for #spookoweenreadathon

Well, that was pretty mediocre. The concept & fairytale aspects were intriguing. Tal was a cute protagonist. I did really like how the author discussed themes of grappling with atrocious legacies left by your ancestors. But the characters & romance were SO bland. Everybody is good & kind & considerate ALL the time. I was yawning my way through the dialogue & definitely skimmed towards the end bc I just wasn‘t invested in the outcome. ★★★☆☆.
Starting one of my most anticipated releases of the year!
For a few days I thought this was going to be a pretty terrible book all together, but it semi-redeemed itself in the last half. It just started off so slow and boring. It takes skill to make getting kidnapped by pirates boring. I only read this because Goodreads insisted I did and that I read another book by F.T. Lukens that was pretty good. 3⭐️ (Photo featuring Fitz) #CatsOfLitsy
This YA fantasy was every bit the fun escapist romp I expected it to be and if it follows a predictable path, that‘s ok—it‘s still very entertaining. Princes, magic, pirates, political intrigue, a very handsome, oh so charming, and, it goes without saying, mysterious stranger make for a great adventure. On sale 4/20/21.
It‘s -3 feels like -21, we‘re under another winter storm watch with 4-8 inches of snow expected overnight so there is only one thing to do...escape to the high seas for a story about princes, pirates, magic, shenanigans and who knows what else?!? ❄️ 🏴☠️ 👑 🌊 ❄️
