Barbara Pym was one of those writers I've known of forever but never got around to reading. That changed this year with some encouragement from @Centique @LeahBergen @Cathythoughts and @Ruthiella I loved this book and its sort of sequel Less Than Angels.

The second #12Booksof2021 from this great series. This time for #October. Worried how he‘d follow the events of the previous book, but he wrote it brilliantly. What an ending to the book 😱😳. Now waiting impatiently for the publication of the next book in the series (May). #10thBookof2021
Says something that this book beat Stolen Ones by Angela Marsons, Secret Prey by John Sandford, and Dead Mercy by Noelle Holten which are all great books.

Completely forgot I haven‘t finished this! My #10thBookOf2021 for #October was this twisted horror perfect for the Halloween season. Set in America‘s south, it‘s a atmospheric thriller about being alone in a hoarders house under siege by something not human. Mouse promised her Dad she‘d clear her mean deceased gran‘s house, no one told her it was full of creepy junk & not to go into the woods alone. Made me check the windows😱 #12BooksOf2021
pickThis is one of those surprises. I discovered this novel by accident, just drawn by the title, and for me, it was darn near perfect. A second chance love affair told by Mike, in brief vignettes, about the love of his life, June. It‘s also a love letter to NYC, to music, to the weather. The dialogue is fantastic, the writing is gorgeous, music fills its pages, and friendships, and small talk and food are celebrated. I couldn‘t have loved it more.

Loved, loved, LOVED this book!! 😍 I never thought a thriller could be described as special, but this is it. My 4th favorite book all year.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Would have been 5, but I always knock a star for language. Otherwise, 5 is not even enough, that's how much I loved it!)
