The Singles Game | Lauren Weisberger
The new novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Devil Wears Prada and Revenge Wears Pradaa dishy tell-all about a beautiful tennis prodigy who, after changing coaches, suddenly makes headlines on and off the court. How far would you go to reach the top? When Americas sweetheart, Charlotte Charlie Silver, makes a pact with the devilthe infamously brutal tennis coach Todd Feltnershe finds herself catapulted into a world of celebrity stylists, private parties, charity matches aboard mega-yachts, and secret dates with Hollywood royalty. Under Todds new ruthless regime, Charlie the good girl is out. Todd wants Warrior Princess Charlie all the way. After all, no one ever wins big by playing nice. Celebrity mags and gossip blogs go wild for Charlie as she jets around the globe chasing Grand Slam titles and Page Six headlines. But as the Warrior Princesss star rises on and off the court, it comes at a cost. In a world obsessed with good looks and hot shots, is Charlie Silver willing to lose herself to win it all? Sweeping from Wimbledon to the Caribbean, from the US Open to the Mediterranean, The Singles Game is a sexy and wickedly entertaining romp through a world where the stakes are highand no one plays by the rules.

So I ended a relationship earlier this spring and this is the dilemma I currently face, based on what I can tell.

What would you do?? Thought it would be fun to poll Littens!!

Ashley_Nicoletto Wait until you meet someone who is as open to ideas and loves books just as much as you do. ❤️ They exist. I just went through this. It's hard, but the wait was worth it. Lots of men and dates who made me go 🙄🤔😟😐 7y
Librarybelle My current path is option 3...I haven't found "the one" yet. I've dated non reader guys, and there are other things we could talk about, which didn't bother me then, but makes you wonder if they would appreciate all of my books. They're part of my baggage, so to speak! 7y
8little_paws @Ashley_Nicoletto the pickings are slim and I'm "old" now apparently. I'm highly considering just leaving Chicago in the next few years so it might just make sense to not even bother looking for anything longer term during this time I'm also thinking. Just get to know people maybe, have fun. 7y

CouronneDhiver I married a non reader and he's great! We have lots of hobbies that are shared and a couple things that we pursue separately (like reading vs TV; for example). 7y
Hestapleton My bf is a mix of 1 and 2. He rarely reads, but when he does he often reads white dudes, though he reads genres that are DOMINATED by white dudes. However, he appreciates what I read and my supports my efforts to read more diversely. We both adore stories (though in different mediums) and have several other outside interests, so it works for us. :) 7y
Lynnsoprano I'm married to a reader who will try lots of different books, so I'm very lucky. He introduced me to science fiction and has prompted me to read more nonfiction. He just gets mad when I want to read and watch tv at the same time. He doesn't believe in multitasking. He's a man😎😎 7y
Foragingfantasy I married a non-reader. I don't think our relationship is hurt by it. I read he works outside or watches golf... And he doesn't say a word against the mountains of books I have everywhere. It's so much better than just staying single. 7y
danimgill My bf is pretty much a non-reader (he'll occasionally read comics) and it's been working out for us for the last 7 years so you know my vote 😉 What really matters is if you can find enough other ways to connect and if they can appreciate/respect your readerly ways. 7y
Reecaspieces I am like @Foragingfantasy. I married a non reader. He is perfectly content with me reading in the car or watching tv. He could care less how many books I have. He just rolls with the flow. He does like to purchase books for himself when we visit a bookstore..then he never reads them. 😂 7y
Notafraidofwords I've been with a non reader for many years. I love him dearly. He is kind and supportive of all my reading love. He has other hobbies and I support him too. 7y
kspenmoll I married "late" in life & that may be why I ended up marrying a lover of books ( English major) & bookstores. Like me, he wants to visit bookstores & libraries when we travel. We met when I was 33 and married 3 years later. I had not dated for a time when we met. 7y
ScrappyMags Well I'm happily single... lol. I'd like to meet someone but never been one to settle. I would date a non-reader as long as he fully supports my reading 👍🏼👍🏼 7y
gossamerchild I married someone who really only read comics. He reads a lot more now than he used to, maybe out of self-defense 😉. 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I'm happily single, I tried online dating and just no luck. I live in a very for better or worse rural redneckesque area. So my love of reading doesn't tend to go with the football, NASCAR, mud-bogging, ATV, hunting and fishing passions of this area. If I stumbled upon a single reader here I'd snatch him up, but if I met the right guy that was a non-reader that'd be ok as long as he was ok with me reading while he did any of the above,no luck yet 7y
Yellowpigeon My husband is a non reader-ish. He reads these online alternative histories but not actual books. The only issue caused by this is my tbr pile causes a lot of consternation from him. So he'll chide me for not reading my books quick enough. But then the next day we'll be close to my favorite book store and he'll tell me to go shopping. So overall no complaints. 😂 7y
ballina Date a non-reader and introduce him to the world of reading!!! 7y
stargazerblue49 Dating a mostly non-reader and when he does read it's either something I've forced upon him or somehow related to D&D. 7y
Reviewsbylola My husband was pretty much a non reader when I met him but had two favorite books, I am Legend and The Heroin Diaries. So he wasn't completely a non reader. Now he goes in spurts. Sometimes he will get really into reading. Sometimes he will go months without cracking open a book. Tbh, his reading had no effect on my feelings for him and if he had never read a book, it wouldn't matter. We both have our hobbies. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 7y
Hollie The more likely answer for me seems like #3, but I'm working on finding a reader! I definitely resonate with this post! 7y
8little_paws @hollie my gut tells me #3 is where I'm headed myself. Every guy I match with, or talk to seems alright but ultimately....meh. 7y
Nuwanda @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I am in the same boat! I live in a more rural area and so don't relate to a lot of guys around here. I have one friend who's always trying to set me up; her criterion is "single," and my criteria are numerous and include a reader if possible, so needless to say, those set-ups have not worked out. I would say I'd need a reader in my life to feel like I had met my partner! 7y
Jinjer My guy has to be both a reader and a hiker/kayaker/camper and own a cabin on a lake & a ski boat and like cats. Haven't found him yet. 7y
Amandajoy I'm going to have to say door number 1 or 3. I picture door number 2 to be a closed minded jerk. I was dating a nonreader & while he didn't read, he didn't mind me talking about books, said he'd rather me tell him about them than read them. But it didn't work out (bad timing). I've decided I'm cool with door number 3. 7y
Amandajoy @Riveted_Reader_Melissa & @Nuwanda I'm with you guys about living in a rural area, I do too. Hard to find a bookstore around here let alone a single, male, reader! 7y
Nuwanda @Amandajoy I'm fortunate to have one used bookstore here, and we may have a new indie opening here soon. The independent used store has been here a long time but has been on the verge of closing for a few years due to the owner's health. I do feel fortunate to have those and one chain! The single male readers are in very short supply, though--much more so even than the bookstores! 7y
8little_paws @Amandajoy @Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Nuwanda I'm in Chicago proper, not the suburbs, and the options you have in guys once you hit this mid 30s age are really, really lacking even here 7y
BooksForEmpathy My partner reads all the time! Just not a ton of physical books. He also can be inspired to read (like he devoured A Little Life!) Because he reads a ton of online articles/listens to podcasts, we have a lot to talk about and share with each other. He goes to all my author talks I get tix for AND will sit and read (on his phone) at cafes for hours. 7y
BooksForEmpathy I think the most important thing is my partner and I enjoy being quiet together... more of a temperament thing. I would not disregard all "non-readers" at all. But, don't date a guy who is intentionally only reading white guys... ughhhh. Gotta support diverse reading/people/experiences ??. (edited) 7y
Amandajoy I feel you. I'm single in my mid thirties too. I'm not sure it's easy to be a smart, independent, single lady in most places. I did just finish All the Single Ladies this weekend. Made me feel a little better. 🙂 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @8little_paws Yea... I passed that age awhile ago so I'm also in that zone. Where the good ones are taken and the ones available are usually divorced. (I'm in my 40's) 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Nuwanda @Amandajoy Exactly. I use Amazon a lot, the closest bookstore is a BAM about an hour away. The last indie we had here closed years ago. And even sadder yet, 20 minutes from me is a college town, but still no bookstore except the campus bookstore. 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa If I found a nice introvert I think we could work together well, doing quieter things together even if he didn't read, like @BooksForEmpathy said. But either they aren't into online dating (which makes some sense), don't go out much (also makes sense), but either way I haven't found them yet. Now the two, seemingly nice introverted types I met online where both social anxiety people who loved to talk online, even about books, but would never... 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa ...meet me in person. So no luck there either. 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @Amandajoy Great book! I read it late last year or earlier this year. 7y
Smangela My husband is kind of a non-reader, he reads about 3-10 books a year but loves that I love it. He definitely enables me with my lofty TBR and we found a way to enjoy reading together - audio books in the car or I'll read aloud if I'm the passenger. It's been fun for me to pick books I know he'll like because really, isn't a person just a non-reader til they find the right story?? :) 7y
Hooked_on_books I don't think you can judge someone only by this. My BF doesn't read books at all, but it's mainly because he's an active doer and loves to be working with his hands. He reads news and articles that interest him, like science and technology. He's thoughtful and open-minded. So, it is possible to find readerly qualities in someone who doesn't read. And he even encourages my book buying habit! I say don't give up. (edited) 7y
8little_paws @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I'd be ok with a divorced guy I think but since I've never been married I've noticed that's a flag for a lot of people. 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @8little_paws honestly depends on the guy. I felt the same (It's be ok) and dated a few, but my actual experiences were that they were people who didn't like to settle down and just liked dating, not looking to settle down again. Again, most likely that's a function of online dating apps...so I wouldn't say it's a flag for me, but I'm a bit more hesitant there than I used to be. I've never been married either. 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa Funny, The Who Wants to a Millionaire question on while I ate lunch was....according to Amazon what is the most well-read city in the US.....Seattle. Maybe we are all just living in the wrong area, LOL 7y
cdreincarnate Definitely #3! Failing that, #1 might actually be preferable to #2, but that's a tough call. 7y
8little_paws So the non reader I have been seeing, we went on our first official REAL date Friday night and my head is spinning from how much fun we had. The next day he texted me to suggest two more dates this July and we are also going to the museum of contemporary art a week from today. I came right it and admitted "don't you think I'm kind of a nerd" and he said he loves that I'm always trying to learn more! So maybe this might work out?? 7y
Librarybelle @8little_paws Best of luck! 7y
Nuwanda @8little_paws Woo woo! Have fun on your next couple dates! I will say, it does sound like he could be converted, haha! 7y
Reecaspieces @8little_paws well! You go girl!!! 7y
Yellowpigeon Woohoo. Have fun. My husband and I don't have any hobbies in common, well other than eating. We both love hearing about each other's hobbies and celebrating each other in them. As long as he can love that you love books, it doesn't matter that he doesn't love to read 7y
8little_paws @Yellowpigeon that's how I'm thinking about it. We do have one common hobby at least, we met at our CrossFit gym. I do like asking him about the stuff he does as well 7y
Hollie That's so great to hear! It gives me hope! I am so happy that you had a good date and that he's already got 2 more in the works. 💕💕💕 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @8little_paws That's awesome! So he is a good one! Enjoy your dates and see if he maybe he enjoys learning more too, just in different ways. Maybe he's more of a hands on, take a class or lesson type instead of reading a book type. Which would be awesome! 7y
8little_paws @Riveted_Reader_Melissa he is a graphic designer and loves art--he has done lots of hand lettering, wants to take a Mosaic tile class, and said his favorite media to work in is pastels and watercolors 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @8little_paws perfect! He's crafty and studious in his own way, and while he's creating I bet he understands the need for quiet contemplative time too, which will fit you very well. So instead of a reader vs non-reader type....maybe it should have been an introvert versus major extrovert type. Plus if he needs quiet alone time to work, that means you get some quiet alone time to read too, without anyone feeling left out. Basically he'll... 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa ... understand that need too. 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I hope your dates go well, fingers crossed!! It so hard to meet other introverts, after all we enjoy staying home and doing things often. (edited) 7y
Smangela @8little_paws I'm so happy to hear! He should definitely like you for how you are! Having that much fun is always a good sign ☺️☺️ have fun on your next dates! Sound like you've got good ones planned! 7y
Jinjer As long as you have other shared interests and activities it can work. And as long as when you want to sit home and read he doesn't get all pouty and needy and try to talk you out of reading. That's when it's a problem.😂If the guy can entertain himself while you're reading, fine. 7y
Foragingfantasy @8little_paws 👏 yay!! I'm so happy y'all had fun! Sometimes the differences keep things exciting. Good luck!!! 7y
8little_paws @Jinjer we're actually going out today now, at his suggestion, to sit and read together at a coffee shop 😵😵😵 7y
ballina Yayyyyy!! I'm so happy for you girl!! Good days are coming 7y
Jinjer Awesome! I'm liking this guy so far! 7y
ScrappyMags I'm so late!! Sorry!! Eeek! Excited for you! That's awesome!!! Yeah the last guy I dated I knew was cheating on me. Shoulda been a red flag he was twice divorced. ?? Everyone said "give him a chance.." Sticking to my instincts now. If I meet a great guy... awesome. If not... no problem. ???? 7y
Amandajoy Yay! Sounds like you met a good one! 💗 7y

I'm a fan of Lauren Weisberger so I read any new book she has out. I really liked this one! It's a fun, quick read set in the world of tennis. Which, even though I don't play, I love to follow :) The main character are great and the story develops at a good speed. No crazy twists and there are a few parts of the story I wish got more focus, but for the most part I highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🙌🏼💗

It wasn't my favourite Weisberger novel, but it met the chick-lit cravings I was having lol. I loved how strong and flawed Charlie's character was. I'm definitely one of those people who want everyone to like them and it's hard sometimes to fight for what you want and still be proud of who you are at the end of the day. Just one question...Did she win? But I guess that's the point right lol ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Only 60 pages left of The Singles Game! If you're into chick-lit...Lauren Weisberger is one of my faves. You sometimes have to shut off the feminist part of your brain and just go with the flow, but the story telling is fabulous with amazingly flawed characters! Not a life changing book. Fun and silly, and I love tennis, so I was entertained.

Pickpick

Kind of sort of? Typical Lauren Weisberger, but that's why I like her. Fast, entertaining read! Clinching ending!
