Girl Who Played with Fire
Girl Who Played with Fire | Stieg Larsson
"The Girl in the Spider s Web," the new book in the Millennium Series, is available now! Part blistering espionage thriller, part riveting police procedural, and part piercing expose on social injustice, "The Girl Who Played with Fire" is a masterful, endlessly satisfying novel. Mikael Blomkvist, crusading publisher of the magazine "Millennium," has decided to run a story that will expose an extensive sex trafficking operation. On the eve of its publication, the two reporters responsible for the article are murdered, and the fingerprints found on the murder weapon belong to his friend, the troubled genius hacker Lisbeth Salander. Blomkvist, convinced of Salander s innocence, plunges into an investigation. Meanwhile, Salander herself is drawn into a murderous game of cat and mouse, which forces her to face her dark past. 3½✨

This one was totally different from the first, and I'm not sure I like it as much. It's still a solid story and I enjoyed trying to unravel the mystery of who Zalachenko was and how he and Salander were connected.

Intrigued to see waht the final installment will contain.

This is the next novel in the Trilogy, I read the girl with a dragon tattoo recently and I began this book a few weeks ago. The book is similar to the first in the way there is excitement, action, and mystery. It keeps readers on their toes not able to expect what's next. It is a good sequel that follows a good first book.

Sola M This is beautifully written. I love the way you used expansive vocabulary like ¨Trilogy“ to enhance and enrich your writing. Again, beautiful. 2y

In this book, I identify with the work rate that some of the characters have. They are trying to release a book and working very hard for it to happen, there are many difficulties but they figure it out and find a way to keep on going.

Sola M Me too!! that's so cool. thank you for sharing!! 2y

I found the mystery here far less compelling than in the first - and, honestly, it feels like the author did too. We didn't have the same sense of investigation either and the payoff was disappointing. Add to that too much unnecessary detail (how many coffees, exact shopping lists, exact routes etc.) About banalities and not enough about the crimes...
Also - why do so very many characters have surnames that begin with B?

I love all the perspectives! Some characters are really nasty and others are on the line of moral. The story is thrilling, although a little long at some points. The fighting was the right amount. I'm still rooting for Lisbeth!

Put a big dent in this while working on my library today. Had to stop to eat and because I have a raging dust allergy headache, also because I ran out of bookshelf space 😢. I lost a bookcase moving (it fell apart), 2 of my small bookcases have been designated for other things (one will have cookbooks on it in the kitchen/dining room), Man Cub needed a shelf in his room, and the other is going in the living room (it may end up with some books).

alisiakae I have a dust mite allergy, and can commiserate! Hope you feel better soon! (edited) 4y

Working on this one, I hated the girl with the dragon tattoo until about halfway through. Hoping this one is interesting throughout. Oh and it‘s missing a piece of the cover bc I got it at the used book store and someone cut their name out of it 📚❄️

"When she came to her senses again she cut off all contact with him. It had not been easy, but she had steeled herself. The last time she saw him she was standing on a platform in the tunnelbana at Gamla Stan and he was sitting in the train on his way downtown. She had stared at him for a whole minute and decided that she did not have a grain of feeling left, because it would have been the same as bleeding to death. Fuck you."

Starting The Girl Who Played With Fire tonight. I first read this trilogy back in 2015, so it's nice to come back & revisit. I do wish List had a re-read option, instead of moving it back & forth between the 'have read' & 'reading' shelves.

Not as good as the first book. And I found the ending a little far fetched but over still a good book. Will definitely continue the series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Made good progress on this last weekend when I spent ~14 hours in a car driving. Really enjoy the story. Some of the characters really bother me with who they talk about women but I can‘t decide if it‘s the characters I don‘t like or the writing...less than 6 hours left to finish this one but it‘s due back to the library soon so I better get on it.

Okay, so the book had some twists that I wasn‘t expecting and with an ending like that, I‘d be royally P.O.‘ed if I didn‘t have the third book! Also, just found out a 6th book in the series is due to release this year.

Larsson is easily becoming one of my favorite authors. His writing seems to drag on in places because he describes the boring everyday things that Blomkvist and Salander do and with any other series I would hate it. But I love knowing what Salander gets up to in her free time and seeing their development as a whole.

Oh my God this book was great. As with The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, the first 200 pages are a bit of a slog, but my does the pace accelerate from there. Absolutely did not see the twists towards the end coming.

And that completes the 2018 #ReadHarder challenge! It's been very rewarding. Can't wait to start on 2019. (I may have already started on 2019)

My boyfriend and I found a used book sale today. This is our lovely #bookhaul. 😄📚 The only downside is that the second book of the Millennium Trilogy isn‘t a hardcover like the other two I have. It‘s going to bother me, but it was only 75 cents, so I got it anyway. I‘ll just have to replace it at some point. 😂

I‘m finally listening to the sequel after nearly two years! A friend & I once debated about whether or not to marathon read entire series back-to-back. To me, it depends on the series. I don‘t mind reading light-hearted or children‘s series back-to-back. But I like to put some time between serious or weighty books in a series. This series definitely falls into that category!
