Enola Holmes: The Case of the Missing Marquess
Enola Holmes: The Case of the Missing Marquess | Nancy Springer, Serena Blasco
A graphic novel adaptation of Nancy Springer's bestselling mystery series about Sherlock Holmes' resourceful younger sister! Raised by her mother on the family's country manor, Enola wakes on her 14th birthday to discover that her mother has disappeared, leaving only a collection of flowers and a coded message book. With Sherlock and Mycroft determined to ship her off to a boarding school, Enola escapes, displaying a cleverness that impresses even the elder Holmeses. But nothing prepares her for what lies ahead. This delightfully drawn graphic novel adaptation also includes a portfolio of pages from Enola's secret notebook.

This is my #bookspin historical fiction selection. This is cute and just as much fun as the Netflix film. The audio narrator was excellent.

After watching the Netflix movies, I thought I should read the books. I didn‘t know the movies were based on books.

This is a case where, for me, the movies are better, maybe because I watched them first?

There‘s huge differences between the book and the movie, even if the overall arc is the same. Enola‘s mum goes missing and she decides to look for her.

Such a fun read! Reimaginings like this one tend to be poorly written, at least for me, but Springer writes the main character of Enola in such a way that she stands on her own. Her relation to Sherlock Holmes only adds an interesting element to a well-written story. I‘m looking forward to continuing in the series.
Also, the narrator for the audiobook is excellent. #2023 #middlegrades #enolaholmes #audio

I loved the cozy vibes listening to the audio book. Will be giving the other ones in the series a listen in Autumn and Winter with a mug of something warm. I loved the Netflix movie, and they followed the book for the most part. But the book has a little bit more of a melancholy feel, and I enjoy that.

Reading this series with my daughter. I have to say it keeps my attention. I'm hooked on the series as well. It's such a cute book. So many great lessons for both girls and boys. Touches topics like equality and perseverance. Lessons on responsibility, being forceful while still being compassionate. I look forward to these stories.

I‘ve been wanting to read this before I check out the Netflix adaptation, and after reading the introductory scene my immediate thought was; there was no need to make this into a TV show, the writing is so visual already. I saw this book in my mind way more clearly than most. The descriptive writing never got boring though, and it didn‘t detract from the fun plot. I‘m totally planning to continue with this series. #scarathlon #teamslaughter +16pts

I always like to read the book before I watch the movie. So, this has been on my tbr since I heard that a movie was going to be made. Not sure why I waited so long to read this as it‘s right up my alley. A mystery set in Victorian-era England, yes please! And Enola is such an engaging MC. 5/5⭐️

My edition has the Netflix adaptation cover, but that's fitting because I watched the movie first. It took me a while to warm up to book!Enola, but now I like her and will start the second book next (the movie added a lot of things; there's a second one coming, by the way). It was an enjoyable read.

Enola Holmes, the younger sister of Mycroft & Sherlock, must solve the clues left behind after her mother disappears.

This was a really cute mystery. An easy listen, with a plucky and endearing young lady as the main character. She is clever & uses her knowledge and experience as a woman to solve the mysteries.

I wish that the story had focused more on her mother, & not gotten distracted halfway through with the missing marquess. 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

I finished this just before Christmas. This is one of the few instances where I liked the movie better than the book. I thought the movie was entertaining and well-acted. However, I found the book to be very repetitive and not too well-written. It didn't feel like I was reading the point of view of a teenager. I thought the solutions to the problems were too simplistic. I love the ideas of the books but not their execution.

I saw the movie on Netflix & bought the series (I have a 5 year old daughter & hope that she‘ll enjoy them in the future). It was a good book, slightly different from the movie. The movie makes Enola more of a kick butt girl & the book she seems a little helpless at times but still a fun, quick book. 16 points & another book off my bingo board. #merryreaders #christmasgames2020 #bookspinbingo

My day 3 of #litsylove letter writing canceled due to a migraine. Boo!

On the bright side, I finished bk 1 of Enola Holmes series. LooOvEd it! It wasn't perfect - not a deep mystery, spends more time on character and setting than plot - but what a rich read for middle grades! British vocabulary was delicious, and plenty of period details for history fans. Recommended for 10-12+ for violence and use of word whore. #dw2020reads #audiobook

Read in one day, because it's middle grade, but so very enjoyable. I found the language & use of words just lovely. Interestingly, the movie went further in the series than this book, which actually disappointed me b/c I was hoping that they might make more movies, once movies can be made again. Will definitely read the rest of the Enola Holmes series. I love a good middle grade novel!

I almost never listen to audio fiction, but I needed a change of pace from my last heavy history listen. This was light and fun, a solid start to the series. While I could be annoyed that the central mystery of the story is left unsolved, I did find Enola Holmes entertaining enough that I'd like to read more of her adventures. 4 🔎🔎🔎🔎

After watching the Enola Holmes movie on Netflix, I grabbed this book from the library to read. What a fun character! I love an adventurous and smart young lady, overturning the mores of the day and outsmarting the police as well as her older brother, Sherlock Holmes. However, watch the movie first. It's different enough from the book for disappointment, but so fun on its own!

Ok, picking this back up. The needs must thing has stopped, at least for now. I think I prefer the slightly older Enola Holmes in the Netflix show because I enjoyed the very light flirting and maybe someday romance between her and the Marquess. That could be because that‘s what I was in the mood for.

A cute start to the series, and while I realize that I‘m not the target demographic here, it seemed a little oddly childish at times. Enola Holmes, Sherlock and Mycroft‘s teen sister, decides to investigate the mysterious disappearance of their mother. While she‘s searching for clues re: Momma, she comes across a missing young Marquess and helps him out while trying to keep out of big bro‘s ways. 3 stars, will read the rest of the series.

Finally took the time to watch this fun movie about Sherlock‘s sister. I might have cried a little—family drama always gets me. It was upsetting that they made Sam Claflin so unattractive due to his uptight, controlling personality, but I guess he can‘t be Finnick in every movie. 😉Since I love most things Sherlock, I might try the books. #scarathlon #teamslaughter @Clwojick 6pts
